Hey fellow bong! Our gun laws aren't actually as bad as you might think.

Here you have to apply for a license to own guns. There are two separate licenses, the shotgun certificate (for shotguns) and the firearms certificate (for everything else).
Getting a shotgun certificate is fairly easy, as long as you don't have a criminal record and haven't been diagnosed with any mental illnesses then you will be granted one.

It's much harder to get a firearms certificate, though. You have to give a valid reason for needing to own a gun, either hunting or target shooting (self-defense isn't considered a valid reason). You also have to own a safe to keep the guns in when you aren't using them.

Even after getting a firearms certificate, you still can't own semi-automatic rifles, those are completely off limits. Bolt-actions and lever-actions are all you can own. Revolvers and pistols are also prohibited - unless you live in Northern Ireland.

Gun violence numbers are usually jacked up by suicide and gang violence. If you aren't suicidal, and you aren't in a gang, your chances of being shot go down drastically in every single country on the planet.

Semi-autos are fine as long as they are owned on an FAC which requires a "Good Reason" to be provided for each firearm and they must be used regularly (although each Police service uses different procedures on how they check this and how often)

But even the gangs in the UK don't have guns. They usually use slingshots, batons, knives, clubs, and (increasingly) acid. Gang shootings in the UK are very rare, the last major case I can think of happened over a decade ago.

The number of terrorist attacks in western Europe has actually decreased over the past few decades. The UK was a lot more dangerous in the 70s and 80s with the IRA running around than it is now.
