I have/had family that were part of the IRA back in the day. I still have family all over Ireland, most of them in Belfast.

The IRA used to be an organisation with a point. The right of the Irish people to self determination was/is something worth fighting for and the British did some fucked up things in Ireland that warranted action (Not to say that the old IRA didn't do anything wrong).

But the people who came to power in the 70's and 80's who were less about the nationalist aspect and more about playing soldier against the Brits fucked up the entire organisation and ruined what credibility the IRA had, that's the tipping point that moved the IRA from rebels into terrorists. Bombing civilians doesn't get your country back.
