AK sticky bolt

Lately my NPAP bolt carrier has been sticking when it’s pulled all the way back. I know the PAPs are notorious for sticking to the G2 trigger but that’s not the issue here. Already tried to give it some cleaning and a bit of oil but it’s not working.

get a wolff extra power recoil spring. fixed mine instantly.

Take it apart and see if you can find where it's hanging. Apply a fine file and sandpaper.

So basically you just need to keep shooting the gun until some of the contacting surfaces wear a little to allow smoother function. You also want to invest in a stronger recoil spring because the stock spring is under powered.

T. Fellow NPAP owner.

Been meaning to get one of those after I noticed some peening on the back of my bolt carrier but I stopped worrying about it once it stopped getting worse.

Trying to find the spot like Said and might try that too. Any good links for the Wolff spring?

I’ve put close to 4000 rounds through it everything should be broke in by now. I’ll try to post some more pics

I took apart a Maverick 99 and smoothed over some of the rough spots on the bolt carrier and it made an enormous difference in how smooth the gun feels. Just be careful you're not messing with the sear, disconnector, or hammer notch areas.

check your gas tube alignment, pistol could be getting hung up in there

Much obliged thanks

When exactly is this failure happening? My WASR does this, but only if I ease the charging handle forward instead of dropping it.

When I rack the charging handle all the way back against the trunnion

>I know the PAPs are notorious for sticking to the G2 trigger but that’s not the issue here.

Yes it is.

Not OP, but also NPAP owner. Would a stronger spring also mitigate recoil/cheek slap?

I had this happen with a SAR-1. The dust cover was bent, and was pressing on the carrier.

the top portion of your reciever is probably a little too narrow.

>Would a stronger spring also mitigate recoil/cheek slap
yes. A good brake helps too, I highly recommend the vg6 epsilon ak muzzle brake

Be mindful though, part of your slap problem is how you are using the stock. npap stocks are designed to be used a little differently, your nose should almost touch the dust cover.

>your nose should almost touch the dust cover.
Huh. Never knew that. I'll definitely try that if I manage to go shooting this weekend

File these humps down in pic. You need to do this to a g2 or Alg trigger. A rak1 or surplus hammer does not need it

Got one for my WASR from them. Was worth every penny. Also check the BCG for mushrooming and file it down if necessary.

yeah, it's weird. You can swap out the stock if you don't like it. But if you learn around it you will shoot more accurately I have found.

Order the wolff xp spring rn. Just do it. Such a small amount of money for such an improvement

I ship out in four days, so maybe another time. I'll definitely bookmark it

I've wanted to swap the stock on mine. Too bad it uses the fucking yugo proprietary bolt, so your choices are the flat M70, a faggy tacticool stock, or a new rear trunnion.

>NPAP
You dun goofed

Is the bolt carrier able to reach the cutouts in the rail when the recoil spring is installed? Take off the dust cover and try to pinpoint where the bolt carrier is getting hung up. There are many places where this can happen and each has a solution.

Also, does the bolt carrier lock open while firing? If not, you're trying to fix something that isn't a problem. Don't baby the charging handle and it won't stick. All of my AK's stick a little when I first make them. Sometimes I go through the effort to make the action super smooth. Sometimes I just shoot them a bunch for the same result.

Ace folding stocks and ironwood designs Warsaw stocks both exist

oh my. god bless your soul. I never heard about these before.
