In general, any designation or name that is two letters and followed by numbers will be said pronouncing each letter, e.g A-R, A-K, S-A-80, M-P-5 etc.

Where it is three or more letters and has some vowels and makes sense phonetically, it will be said as such, e.g senpai-ass, scar. If it doesn't make sense phonetically it will be sounded out, e.g U-S-P, A-K-M, S-R-R etc. It's all about what is easy to identify and speak about with minimum wasted effort. If you say 'pass me the F-A-M-A-S' that's wasted effort. If you say 'pass me the usp' they might not know what you're on about.

Ones like FAL and Aug are strange because both terms are easy enough to communicate, hence there is no correct way to say it. You'll even hear both types of speech in reference to them, e.g F-N Fal, Steyr A-U-G.
