if you want reliable iron sights on hand, pinned FSB and solid, not flip up, receiver mounted rear. doesn't have to be a gas block, you can build a fake dissy and put it as far forward as you want.
handguards just suck for mounting sights. if you have flip up sights and the front on the handguard they truly are close range backups and can't be used for much else. putting a sight on the barrel itself does hurt barrel harmonics a bit so sights on a handguard are ideal if you use the optic 99.9% of the time. you're just not going to hit deer very reliably if your scope breaks innawoods.

Is there any real reason to go for an 18" barrel over a 16"? I like the looks, but it's not like I'm going to be shooting over 250m in the shitty state I live in.
I'm thinking of building using their M4E1 lower. I can't find a whole lot that's bad about them and I see them on Jow Forums, reddit, and other sites a lot. I don't like the roll marks, but the other "upgrades" sound nice.
Their barrels are supposedly made by Ballistic Advantage. Their parts kit seem to be pretty decent MILSPEC and Magpul parts.
