Im thinking of getting my first rifle soon. I want to choose between a Mosin (which is nice, and Russian) for $450 at a pawn shop, which i will try to talk down. Or an SKS Norinco for $299. Which would Jow Forums recommend for a first rifle?

provided that the SKS basically functions, the SKS is a ok deal. The Mosin is an awful deal.

An AR or an AK

Sks. Or a psa ar15

Buy the sks unless it does not have the original stock or original magazine. At $450 a mosin is not really a good choice unless you cannot live without one. You could build your own ar or buy the ruger pc9 which would be a much better first gun.

For what use?

Of JUST THOSE TWO the SKS is the better option. Cheap ammo, semiautomatic, slightly better sights, more useful in general.

dont pay 450 for a mosin

$450 for (what i assume is a run of thr mill 91/30) is a bad deal. Current price is about $300.

The Mosin isn't a good deal, the SKS, if it works, sounds like a very good deal however.
I vote the SKS, because even if something is like, broken, you could probably just replace that part.

Even in some Tapco crap stock it would still be a much better rifle than the Nugget. You could fix a proper stock later.
