>Russia has lodged a protest over India’s decision to disqualify its two munitions systems from the $1.6 billion Army program, spurring newfound tensions between the two allies.
>In October, the Indian Army officially declared Hanwha Defense Systems of South Korea as the only qualified company for the gun and missile system program. In the 2013 global tender, Indian Army shortlisted three companies — Hanwha Defense Systems, which offered its Hybrid Biho system, and Russian companies Almaz Ante, which offered its upgraded Tunguska system, and KBP Tula, which offer its Pantsir system. During the IRIGC-MTC, Gen. Shoigu accused the Indian Army trial teams of purposely not completing the full trials last year. A Russian diplomat said on condition of anonymity that the two defense companies and the Russian defense ministry issued separate letters to MoD last month to reevaluate the entire selection process before making a final call.
>However, a senior Indian Army official said both the upgraded Tunguska system fielded by Almaz Ante and Pantsir by KBP Tula systems were not fully compliant during the trials. The program calls for procurement of five regiments, or 104 systems, of gun missiles systems, including 4,928 missiles and 172,260 rounds of ammunition costing $1.6 billion. The winner will have to provide full maintenance technology transfer for missiles to state-owned Ordnance Factory Board. The proposed gun and missile system should have a day and night camera functionality and a built-in simulator, and the gun should engage a target at 350 rounds per second, while the missile should have a range of five kilometers. The system should be able to operate up to 50 kilometers on a single fuel tank, and should have a minimum operation endurance of eight hours without refueling.
>The Indian Army is looking for a mix of both gun and missiles mounted on one or separate high mobility vehicles. In addition, the gun as well as the missile should be able to engage aerial targets both with and without the fire control radar, either independently or simultaneously.

>the gun should engage a target at 350 rounds per second eeeh

>21,000 RPM Is there actually a gun that can do this? You'd have to quad mount phalanx I think to get that fire volume?
Then put it on an extra ship of it's own to carry all the ammo it'd chew through.

>even India considers Russia's bydlo hardware to be beneath them I'm fucking dying here hahahaha
The fact that a nation cares about some shitty 1.6 billon dollar deal just shows how enslaved it is to the world financial system and the dollar. It is in fact no nation at all.
>You deal with the curry, you get fucked in a hurry
Jaxon Morgan
Interesting, since the Pantsir seems to be far superior compared to the other two. Maybe Russia didnt agree to the technology transfer or India just wants to have stronger ties with western nations and equipment. Definitely a surprising decision.

To be fair it might be at least partly due to USA threatening sanctions to anyone buying Russian military hardware, and India depends on the USA for quite a lot more than you might realise (eg the Tejas engines). The fact that Russia would probably sell India out to China if they were forced to choose probably doesn't help either.
Jacob Wilson
Is there good information yet on the total percentage of imports coming from Russia to India this year? I know India has been buying more and more from US and Israel every year, but I don't know if they've surpassed Russia yet.
India and military equipment is like Pokemon - gotta catch them all!
Dominic Anderson
Isn't this a logistical nightmare?

Two GSh-6-23's at max fire rate would be in that range

It's India. Everything's a nightmare there.

It used to be which is why they try to reorganise that shit.
Of course in the process lots of corruption happens.
So you have to chose either being extremely corrupt or not corrupt at all. In both cases it's hell on earth to get where you're supposed to go.
And of course when indians scream about corruption, it's exactly where there isn't any to be found since the supplier wanted none of that bullshit.
And don't believe it has anything to do with countries or political balance.
Of course all the parties have their favorite pet oligarchs/tycoons. Of course they yell scam whenever you go with wichever, which you are obliged to do if you want to conduct business.
Recently, swedish SHORAD missile was cancelled in favor of a russian one that failed trials. Duh.
Now a selected (and proven) russian system is killed in favor of a south korean one. Duh.
It makes no sense. Don't think India goes like "a little of this a little of that". No. It's simply totally nonsensical.
Current gov is much less corrupted though, and trying to fix that shit, but committing errors in the process due to the fact most of these procurement programs were started sometimes 2 decades ago!
Elections are coming in 6 months and current prime minister could go down which would create a whole new situation for India as lots of deals could be cancelled.
Indians are a nightmare to deal with.
You try to help them, they spit on your face. You build partnership with their industries, they yell scam because you don't gave it to some failed national company. Then they scold the national company for not delivering their own indigenous stuff. ...While still scolding you about why didn't you work with that exact failed company.
