Bolt actions are obsolete

Why does the military still use bolt actions? It's 1918+100. They're obsolete. An ultra-lightweight M4 is better in literally every way.

also i hunt with a flintlock nigga
also bolt is a more rugged system if i was shooting 400+ yd and having to hump to get there i would want a bolt gun

>t. Retard neckbeard

But what if you had to shoot a bunch of targets at short range and run a short distance to some more targets you had to shoot? Your shitty bolt action would slow you down like crazy vs an AR and you probably wouldn't even place.
BOLT. GUNS. ARE. OBSOLETE.

Fucking this

OP-
We are tax payers. We paid for bolt rifles for our military. They came with a certain service life attached to that price tag. They government *actually* does have some form of accountability and will continue to use those bolt guns in some role until it’s time to replace them or they become combat ineffective.

>t. Gay faggot

Firearms un-adopted from world militaries because of your post: 0

What if I told you we were issued an M4 along with the M24.....

you mean stuff the infantry does
if im carrying a bolt gun i plan on taking one shot only

>people responding to such obvious bait

I'm not him but I'd say that's a lot of bullshit for a marksman to be carrying. Why not a pistol or better yrt, nothing?

They've been combat ineffective for over half a century. It's time to replace them.
>I bought an M&P sport with my Remington 700.
FTFY. Go LARP somewhere else, kiddo.

Or you could cut even more weight by ditching the obsolete hunk of junk and getting a nice, compact, lightweight M4. An M4 would be even better if it had some modernization. Give it a thin 14.5" pencil barrel instead of the retarded gov't profile, a carbon fiber handguard to replace the heavy clunky quad rail, and a polymer lower to save even more weight. Our military could really be a force to be reckoned with if they stopped living in WWI.

too obvious/10

Because current semi-auto designs are too damn inaccurate. Their actions are violent enough to throw off the shooter's follow through and there's usually something clamped onto the barrel that does something before the bullet has left it, screwing accuracy in two distinct ways

yes, I'm sure someone made a sniper rifle operated by a gas trap in the muzzle device with an ultra-light DI system that barely affects harmonics and is precision tuned for minimal recoil. You can make a bolt action rifle more accurate for less money and less engineering effort (aka money) and have ti fire different loads without worrying if it's going to downgrade itself to a muzzleloader like a finely tuned semi auto will downgrade itself to a straight pull bolt action.

It's not bait. Bolt actions are slow and clunky and they have no place in a modern fighting force.

too obvious/10

modern fighting forces waste too much lead, copper, and brass on suppressing fire if you ask me

we need to go to a smaller number of large, cheap explosives (accurate and reliable though? no, these are for suppressing fire) and powerful, clunky rifles. if you thought machine gun fire kept peoples heads down, let's see what they think of a mini mortar storm.

bolt actions are fast and smooth

if you want clunky shit fire a lever action prone
>CLACK
>ugh
>fuck
>gimme a second
>CLACK

>bolt action
>fast
Pick one. It's not the 19th century anymore, Elmer.

>t.I don't understand how the mechanics of a bolt action are ideal for creating a high precision, long range fire arm.

Its much, much, much easier to engineer a reliable and precise rifle with a bolt action. Just by the nature of how the action is constructed and functions. They can more easily handle large rounds, and be built to finer tolerances.

IE everything you would want in an actually "Sniper Rifle"

Its like saying "Why do we have economy cars, when we also have sports cars. Economy cars are obsolete."

Cartridge cases don't fly.

Please, for your sake I hope you all are baiting, and not actually this retarded.

bolt actions and revolvers are great if you're an assassin, don't need to worry about catching the brass. Just take the shot and peel out

Ian actually talked a bit about why a bolt action is better from both a use and engineering stance for some uses, mainly long range rifles in his m82a1 video.

youtu.be/iEDFn3UtVIc?t=520

Its at 8:40. I forgot to add that.

it's like a G3 but not retarded

semi autos are too dangerous for the military to use
youtu.be/28cfvJkPBpY?t=472

The G3 is actually a great example of how great a precision rifle can be made out of a semi auto. Pic related.

>Ian actually talked
who gives a shit

>WHY WOULD YOU BRING UP A VALID EXAMPLE TO SUPPORT YOUR ARGUMENT, WHAA.

What is wrong with you?

I'm not saying it can't happen, just that there is a reason 90% of precision rifles used in a military role as "sniper rifles" are bolt action.

As for the G3, yes its a great rifle, it was also extremely expensive to produce, made in very small amounts, and never used in a military role.

Hello Karl.

I actually think the only merit ARs hold is as a replacement for bolt guns.
>Accurate and lightweight
>Charging handle in retarded place
>Not very reliable but you only have to put a few shots downrange
>Come in real calibers other than .223

Accurate modern bolt sniper rifle =/= WWII 5MOA bolt rifle.
There's nothing a mauser/mosin/lee enfield/springfield does better than an AR, except maybe short distance hunting and being cool.

To save ammo

Precision bolt action rifles are extremely expensive to produce as well.
Everyone knows karl is too cool for Jow Forums. I would never post there.

real men use bolt action

>Why does the military still use bolt actions?
Because for it is cheaper to make a bolt action precision rifle, than to make a semiautomatic precision rifle. This becomes even more true when you keep in mind the standards required by the specialists that currently use bolt action rifles.

Also, the bolt action as a standard infantry weapon was already obsolete after the invention of the machine gun, well before 1918.

Sage for bait

not a super accurate precision rifle

Downcycled FALs with HE rounds for everyone.

Bolt guns are useful for when you need to shoot a guy a mile and a half away, and that is specifically what you do when you operate a bolt gun. If, as someone who uses a bolt gun, you get into a position where you are at risk of assault rifles hitting you, then that's on you and your shitty positioning.

M2010

Maybe with M193. I can ring steel all day out to 1000m with mk262 in my 14.5" ar

no you can't. you don't do shit faggot. don't take credit for something just because a computer simulation says its possible.

>modular
>easy to assemble (little/no headspacing required)

Standard issue is 855A1. So what you claim is "possible" with 262 on a bench doesnt apply to Joe with a beat up Colt and 855A1.

>there is a reason 90% of precision rifles used in a military role as "sniper rifles" are bolt action.
only if you're referring to the Remington700s used by Acorn City Police Department as "military role"

now instead of ringing steel, kill something!

After a lifetime of collecting various bolt actions for deer hunting, I finally gave in and got an AR 10 .308 Win....With a heavy 24 inch barrel it groups as well my bolt guns. Am building a second one.

>Maybe with M193. I can ring steel all day out to 1000m with mk262 in my 14.5" ar
10/10 bumping this modernized version of fudd talk bait

If you handload with modern bullet choices you can take 300wm over a mile and 5.56 close to 900 yards with a 20"

build an ultralight like the "what would stoner do" AR15 builds. Handy, extremely weildy rifles that are great to prqctice free hand shooting on

>better accuracy
>less to go wrong
>quieter
>don't have brass flying out of the gun after you shoot (read: glint in sun gives position away)

Funny you should mention that, it's going to be a carbine length AR in .223

>How does one fit big bullet's in semi auto chamber designed for smaller bullet's?
Now you know why bolt guns still exist.

>After a lifetime of collecting various bolt actions for deer hunting, I finally gave in and got an AR 10 .308 Win
Why, did your arm wear out from fapping to too many traps? Bolt gun works fine - you don't need a Sootch-approved™ tactical quad-rail with red dot to put Bambi on the dinner table.

>PSG1
>basically the pinnacle of kraut space magic trying to accurize a semi auto

Gee retard, I wonder

This thread proves one thing beyond any doubt:

The opposite of fudds are just as annoying as fudds.

>With a heavy 24 inch barrel it groups as well my bolt guns.
Maybe at 200 yards, I highly doubt that's true when you stretch out to 1000 or more

How many sub-0.5-moa precision rifles are semi-autos compared to bolters? I'll wait.

>hurr durr added mechanical complexity is always the solution

is this bait or are you really just a trash nigger retard?

t.Underage fagaroni

go back to call of duty, kid. You have to be 18 to post here.

Ill bite
Show me a semi automatic rifle chambered in .338 LP, .375 CheyTac, 408 CheyTac, or 416 barrett that is sub MOA with military loadings and doesnt jam or break constantly ill wait.

Does a single stack magazine increase the precision in a rifle? I've always wondered that since bolt actions tend to be single stack.

>But what if you had to shoot a bunch of targets at short range and run a short distance to some more targets
there's this fascinating new concept called "owning multiple firearms" that I think you should begin looking in to

Or any gun really

no.
if it's precise at one range it will be precise at others

Why do you even need a semiauto in the first place?

Oh you!

M4's are not better for sniping.

kek

That's not optimal when you're out in the field where you can't just run back to your car every time you want a different gun. Maybe if you ever left your basement you'd recognize that.

>what is a sidearm
>what is a dmr

Must be a troll

Cawwaduty

Because they can be accurized to an insane degree?

The nature of an automatic mechanism can often be counter productive to precision shooting.

Thanks. But is there a reason why high end precision rifles tend to be single stack if it doesn't increase the precision?

shut up, karl

Bolt action is still lightest rifle for maximum recoil absorption in which is essential to precision shooting. Of course you would know about this if you actually knew about firearms.

Attached: 1519271463009.jpg (600x389, 49K)

>locked breech

Absorbing what recoil? All the recoil is gonna go straight into your shoulder.

its how accuracy international first designed their magazines and theyre arguably the standard for bolt guns. The only pros are getting a bit more stock rigidity and possibly more reliable feeding in some rifles/calibers. Magnums can make single stack even more desirable.
There is a slow movement to double stack magazines but the original singles still have a lot of influence.

>5.56
This is the real joke here

A lighter rifle will produce more felt recoil than a heavier rifle in the same caliber by the way.

Seriously though; where are you guys even getting into where you're taking 1000m shots let alone even see 1000m straight. Modern engagements happen at 300-400m and with urban environments becoming extremely common there are trade offs.

But doesn't stock rigidity add to precision of the rifle?

To add, if you are going to make a precision rifle, you may should go for each little improvement in rigidity.

If it even does matter, it's a negligible amount on normal rifle calibers and the stock could always be made thicker. Id imagine on thicker composites or aluminum it makes no difference at all.
If you wanted every small improvement, youd get significantly more out of a single shot receiver but only bench shooters use those, they dont really make a significant difference as either designs can put holes through the same hole, and theyre ignored in the military.

so on lighter narrower stocks it may be helpful.
and yes stock rigidity is extremely important but I dont think it takes enough away to matter so much. Being able to feed more calibers would be a reason to go single stack but I dont know if the doubles have an issue with that either.

Thanks guys. I have always thought that precision rifles were single stack to have consistent loading. This has always been a question of mine in the back of my head but I have just gotten to asking that question now, so that's a reason for a lot of posts.
