General Luger Thread.

Newfag to Lugers, what's the difference with the Artillery model and the normal one?

Well, It has a longer barrel and i believe parabellum is the 9mm type for it.

Longer barrel. The navy Luger has a longer barrel too and a special alloy against sea water corrosion and damage.

Here's an Artillery Luger with a bunch of accessories.

And here's an absolutely crunked out Artillery Luger

Those were in 7.65mm if I recall right, right?
Must be so fucking pleasant to just casually target shoot and plink with that thing.'
I wish 7.65mm Luger was more common and popular as a target shooting cartridge.

I believe they made them in both 9 and 7.65.
I wish anything in this family was more common, then I might be able to afford them.

got 1937 shooter condition Luger for ~$925
>finish mostly gone
>bad pitting on one side
>grips broke
>latch spring broke, old gunsmith fix
btw found out he passed away recently.
>original mag, nonfunctional
>all matching numbers, ending in 88

i know i got screwed, but how bad? do the matching numbers matter if its in shooting condition? Got some pics of the pitting as well, but don't want to spam.

>dont wanna spam
Thank god, too many gun pics in here already user.

>how bad did I get screwed
Not THAT horribly, the thing can still be fixed up.

>shooter condition
Means you don't have to be too afraid of taking the thing out every now and then.

>finish mostly gone, bad pitting on one side
You could look up a good gunsmith to fix this up for you. The pitting probably isn't nice, but if you were to get the whole thing reblued, and then made sure to take good care of it, it'll probably not get worse.

>grips broke
Those could be replaced.

>latch spring broke, old gunsmith fix
You could stick with the old fix, or look to see if you can find a replacement.

>original mag, nonfunctional
MecGar makes high quality repro mags, check them out.

>all matching numbers, ending in 88
Well that's not too shabby, even if you got it refurbed then it would have a little value. Hold on to the original mag just for completeness sake.

I'd suggest getting the thing fixed up some, and then you get a new mag, along with some suitable 115gr ammunition, and then see how well it runs. The springs could be maybe not in the best condition, maybe they actually are, you don't really know until you shoot it.
If the recoil springs and stuff are bad, there's replacement spring kits.

Take some more pics of the thing and let us see. Especially the barrel, shine a light down the bore from the chamber end, then try to give us a clear picture of the crown and the rifling.

That's some pretty bad pitting, yeah.

The Chinese never made any Lugers.

china did experiment with the c-96 luger hybrid though

Some machinist cobbling together a blowback pistol in like .32ACP or 7.63mm Mauser is hardly the same as experimenting with the Luger or its toggle-lock.
I'm willing to bet that there's numerous extraneous details on that thing, and that the sights may not even work.

What, was Google broken or something?

What's it called when an elf bubba's a gun?

sentence got cut on accident. old gunsmith fixed it for me. bought a replacement spring on numrich and he did the install.

current plan is to replace the grips, but will most likely leave the rest alone. i kind of like it the way it is, just want to prevent further deterioration. I do have a spare mag for range days, but will look for a MecGar.

Were the artillery lugers the only ones issued with stocks? I figure id be an easy 5k to get one and a stock/holster. I dknt even want to look at the price of the snail mags.

>Were the artillery lugers the only ones issued with stocks?
Issued yes, but many commercial Parabellum variants came with slotted butts for mounting a stock.

You spent way more than you should of if you paid 925$ for that.
Heres a luger i paid 900 for, all matching except the two mags it came with

to stop the rust that is hidden in it take it apart completely and keep all springs separate. Boil it for 5 minutes. Boiling changed red rust into black oxide (rust bluing)
doing this once will get rid of the rust inside the metal that you can't see or deal with
t. just finished restoring a 135yr old webley

Yeah but its not milsurp if its a commercial model in most cases.

HNNNNNNGH, that grip is
A E S T H E T I C

Did you do any carding or did you just boil it?

carding is optional desu, the finish of the gun isn't rusted so theres no need to card it. With a gun like that you boil it to get rid of the micropitting that you can't see.
