Ian is sort of a huge faggot but he was unironically 100% right in that video. WW1 and WW2 bolt actions were heavy, crappy 3 to 5 MOA guns. They are completely obsolete for military usage. MODERN bolt actions do have long range usages, but will still not be acceptable as a standard issue service weapon.

Brainlet here. How would a bolt gun even be more accurate? Is the gas going back really that much of a hinderance on velocity? An ar15 has more locking lug surface area than a mosin nagant too. So how can it get any worse?

It’s less velocity and more the fact that a semi-auto is going to have reciprocating mass to it. Also, you can tune your ammunition much better to a bolt gun than a semi-auto.

There is no argument. Bolt guns are obsolete. Sure, they would be useful the one time you have to shoot off a gnat’s bollocks from three counties away, but 99.999% of the time you’d be better off with a modern semi-auto.

The original video was specifically about bolt action guns in military service and combat. Some people took it as an attack against bolt actions in every case. They do have their place where they can be more accurate, but unless someone is shooting at extreme ranges or small targets/groupings- those advantages will not really present themselves.

Own a milsurp because you like them, not because you think it's a weapon for a time where you may need one. That was what the video was getting at.

First off, Free-float DI AR's are easily one the most accurate semi-auto platforms ever, if not the #1 most accurate.

Old WW2 bolt guns were very inaccurate, like 4 to 8 MOA guns. The major reason modern bolt guns tend to be more accurate is due to how simple the action is. There are very little moving parts at all which means you can have very tight tolerances without messing with cycling reliability, no reciprocating mass, less harmonics, very tight lockup in key areas. For this reason they can be very accurate. Does this mean there are no accurate semi-autos? No you can get 99% bolt action accuracy in a semi-auto, it is just going to be very expensive and a bit on the heavy side.

But here is the thing, that little extra accuracy you can get for cheap is only relevant for very long range. A modern AR is very accurate out to 500 yards. At that range the issue is the effective range of 556 not the AR mechanism. Modern distance rifles like the M110 SASS are literally AR's that shoot a bigger bullet and are very popular with snipers.

You wont need to argue that. Youll need to "add" that. Because its the exact reason why bolt guns are dumb.
Something like a tikka t3 is easier to hump the knobs with for a deer than an AR. Which is where those guns belong.

Assuming you aren't using ammo custom tailored to the rifle and aren't going into extreme bench rest autism territory (where people actually consider single shot actions due to concerns about stiffness), you can build a semi auto to be just as precise as a bolt action. The only problem is it costs more and most people who demand extreme levels of precision aren't too woried about fast followup shots due to being bench rest shooters or are practical shooters who are concerned with shooting at very long ranges.

Actually, the main point I was making was just from a cost effective reloading perspective. You also don't have to worry as much about cases failing somewhere other than the mouth if you just neck size, which means less worrying about something going terribly wrong and blowing up your gun.

Don't know how most people do it. There's probably some download site that they go through. I use personally use youtube-dl and I'm pretty sure there's a Windows version. You can't use it to download music videos though as Youtube encrypts those.
