Holy shit I'm in love, why isn't this thing more popular? I didn't even know it existed until this thread.

Interwar french tanks are the best

Watching some videos of their interiors may change your mind about that. They do look fearsome from the outside though and their crews at times did achieve some impressive things.

Man, I love those dome+rivets interwar turret designs.

Not saying they are good. The most spectacular failures had the most effort put into their designs, and I appreciate craziness when pushing the envelope for technology.

Enigma armor was some quality shit, it reportedly stopped a MILAN ATGM in Gulf 1.

For some reason no-one else has produced it. Odd given the many, many less effective improvised up-armoring schemes used in Syria and Iraq during their current conflicts.

Obligatory Tank that Won.

Because Syrians aren't smart enough to figure out how to weld spaced armor.

The M2 Medium.
A tank with more machine guns then crew members.
It was not a good tank.

The effectiveness of rugs as applique armor is unknown.

What is known is they do make your tank much more stylish.

Rubber sheeting used as spaced armor during the post-Yugoslavia clusterfuck.

Much less stylish then a rug.

German tank autism circa 1918.

Because having a tank so large you need a bridge builder to make it is clearly the best idea.

German tank autism circa 1943.

Because the main problem with the Tiger II was that is was too light and didn't have enough overlapping roadwheels.

This design got approved for limited production before being canceled.

I am sure the crews would have loved them.

Moving from German autism to British autism; the FV 4005. A 183mm gun mounted in a cardboard box for slinging absurd amounts of HESH at Soviet heavy tanks.

Instead they made the 105mm L7 with non-meme ammo. That worked.

This bugger is so cute, and for some reason I have a half-track porn folder.

Libyan revolutionary tanks were something else. Now people try to put things like "armor" and "camouflage" on their captured tanks rather then just painting them however they want to.

Sad.

what do lieutenants in charge of a tank platoon do?

So Iraqi army.
I don't want to tell you how to do your job.
But maybe you should not let people run up to your tank to drop grenades into the open hatches.
Just saying.

Egypt managed to shove a 100mm gun into a T-34 and then actually used it in combat.

The ergonomics must be terrible.

Finnish StuG III with additional concrete "armor". Concrete was a widely used addition to armor in WWII, all it really did was increase weight and make the crews feel slightly better.

The Finnish BMP-2 fleet got upgraded recently, new FCS, thermals, and a wide range of minor improvements. Rather cheap too.

The Syrian one is a 122mm D-20 howitzer and was to be used as a self propelled gun, not a tank. One of them showed up in the Syrian civil war but was probably not operational. Still cool though.
