In Madison atm, hanging at a bro's place after going to the gun show in Middleton today. I shoot at the Columbia and Yellowstone DNR ranges, sometimes at Deerfield or Max Creek indoor ranges. The Stoughton gun club has a pistol and trap range just south of town, and I think there's another club range near Bristol. The Dane Co Law Enforcement range just north of Madison is open to the public on weekends (?) or at least sometimes. There is literally a list of outdoor ranges open to the public on the DNR website.

Yeah, from what I recall there isn't a rule about steel case. Only paper targets, and they have it angled so you basically have to sit to shoot if you're under the awning. It's designed for fudds to sight in their durr rifles, not anything fun. You can move off to the side and there are access roads down the range that you can shoot standing though. Also you can shoot standing in the pistol ranges. But prepared to get werid looks from all the fudds that come shoot.
I really should buy land and open a non cuckes range in the southern part of the state. You could charge like $5 for a day pass and would make such a fucking killing

Max Creek is very good and I have bought 5 guns there, but the range only goes to 15 yards, you can't shoot steel case, you aren't allowed to pick up your own brass apparently, and it's a bit expensive [$20 an hour] if you don't go on Tuesday or Wednesday. That said, I do really like that place and will continue to shoot and buy there, but I like shooting steel case because it's so cheap, and some guns like a Star BM actually need to have steel case used to keep them cycling.
