/MSG/ Military Surplus General: Nostalgia Edition

Nostalgia edition: post surplus gats imported before '68 GCA, whether acquired from an importer or brought back in a duffle bag.

Thread image stolen from Google; a page of illustrations from Bannerman's 1955 catalog. Bannerman's was one of the first surplus dealers in the United States, operating from the end of the American Civil War until the 1950s, when the market was flooded with surplus from the Second World War sold through companies like Sam Cummings' Interarms. Bannerman's surplus warehouse was housed in a vast castle constructed on an island on the Hudson River, whose ruins still stand today. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pollepel_Island

Anyone pick up anything interesting lately? Getting or giving any /msg/ related gifts this holiday season? Plans for future milsurp acquisitions in the upcoming new year?

not on topic but an user in the last thread wanted to see more of my $450 k31

all matching, came with 2 mags (1 repro and 1 matching the SN) and an original sling and the original muzzle cover

Pic related is an Interarms-imported 91/30 that saw service in the Spanish Civil War. I've posted this image in the last three threads; I'll stop now.
Nice. Good deal.

Attached: IMG_20181218_122650_01.jpg (4142x1378, 2.94M)

Should I buy a M44 for $250 if I already have a 91/30? It's all matching and has a super shiny bore.

Sure. That's a decent price in (2019 - 9/365).

Is having to work an action fast and hard normal in order to feed a mauser that was converted to 7.62 nato? Mauser is a vz 24

Earlier today when I was at the range some boomer checks out my Mauser and was droning on to my son how much better it would be if the stock and barrel were cut, and if were to be tapped for a scope, he kept calling it a Springfield or 1903.

Attached: range day today.jpg (2225x3105, 2.65M)

Can't fucking wait to get my carcano

My Gew.98 is probably a war-bond rifle. These were French-captured German rifles donated to the US government to be given away as prizes for purchasing a set number of bonds. They were often crudely deactivated; some had a metal rod soldered into the barrel, others (like mine) merely had the tip of the firing pin snapped off.

Attached: Gew98_ersatz_03-27-2017_B_1600.jpg (1600x1200, 2.11M)

Beautiful rifle, user. Were you able to get the rifle running again with a new firing pin?

Very nice, I have a G1911. I want a K31 someday to go with it. Have you checked under the butt plate for a troop tag?

Attached: 1911Side3.jpg (1681x658, 253K)

I have a Spanish Civil War M91, made by Remington in 1918. Love the stock on yours user

Attached: M91 Front.jpg (2025x1055, 609K)

I currently have no intention of doing so; the stock is cracked at the wrist and requires repair before shooting. The bore is also thoroughly eroded. I have a different rifle for shootin'.

I posted this a couple threads ago, but as I posted it a couple of spergs from arg spammed the thread. This is the stock of a Remington Rolling Block carbine in 7mm Mauser at an upcoming auction, can anyone else see a slight circular outline on the stock that looks ultra faded? Trying to figure out if this was possibly a Uruguayan Rolling Block at one point.

Attached: obscuregun.jpg (1880x622, 421K)

Shitty phone shot of my 1953 Tula SKS somewhere in the middle of nowhere on an off road trip. Love taking it out into the hills with me. Blew apart a bowling ball with it a couple weeks back.

Attached: sksoffroad.jpg (469x844, 107K)

All four of my Argentine Mausers are pre-'68 imports.

Does look like some sort of circular impression.

Attached: Argie_M1891_rifle+carbine_08-02-2018_B.jpg (1600x900, 1.17M)

Ah, very well. Its beautiful either way.

My only Mauser is a Spanish Mauser in 7mm. Hoping to get a Czech Mauser at some point.

I have an FR-8 that I took out shooting for the first time yesterday. Click but no bang. Bolt cycles, but firing pin isn't reaching the primer. Safety is also not working. I'm seeing a slight gap between the housing that the safety rides on and the receiver when it's in battery but it's not threading in any tighter.

I suspect that the firing pin was replaced with one from a different type of Mauser 98, are they all the same? Where would I get a replacement for the correct firing pin for an FR-8?

Is $500 for a Remington 1903a3 that has been put into a Sporter stock but is otherwise unfucked a good price these days?

Wow wtf that condition is spectacular for $450

I wish they werent real

i have not yet, are they usually under the buttplate? i've seen a bunch of k31s with big round insignias on the side of the butt stock and figured that was the troop tag.

i'll get a picture of the bore tomorrow but it is absolutely mirror mint, i'd be surprised if this fired more than 100 rounds after proofing

why do old farts like cutting stocks so much

A number of reasons.
>boomers did it because it made the rifle look like a shiny new MUH DURR HUNTIN RIFLE
>boomers claimed removing the wood made it totally lights (by all of half a pound) and this gives it super tactical aiming powers too
>boomers said "there's millions of these rifles they have no historical value!"

Thanks! In my eight-month search for one, it was the nicest I saw, so I had to buy it. Of course, the day I picked it up, two more SCW rifles came up in an auction catalog locally. One of them has "trench art" on the stock. I'll probably buy it too.
Nice M91. I had a Finn VKT for awhile, but I sold it. Pic related is Hemingway in the Spanish War with one. You should start telling people it's yours.

Attached: hemingway Spanish Civil War.jpg (1090x500, 202K)

That's a bit high in my opinion. All the metal bits will total ~$75 on liberty tree. A new stock will be at least $200. Are you willing to pay nearly $800 for what is essentially a rebuilt 1903? Try talking him down to $400.

Attached: 20181028_135225-3024x1470.jpg (3024x1470, 1.33M)

Why the fuck is his front sight like that?

You can't see his front sight.

I want to reload for my Type 38 Arisaka

I'm thinking about getting these:
leeprecision.com/2-die-set-6.5-jap.html
leeprecision.com/breech-lock-hand-press-kit.html

Is that enough to get started? There's no crimping die, is that an issue?

Also any recommendations on bullets and powder?

You're right and I'm a retard. I mean rear sight

Alright, my M95 has this notable crack running through the bit of wood between the trigger and the mag well. However, there is what appears to be some sort of repair staple too. I don't want to shoot it unless I'm certain it'll hold up. Is this factory repair solid? If not, what do I need to do to fix it? Would wood glue in a syringe + a C- clamp for 24 hours fix it?

Attached: 20181224_105955.jpg (4032x1960, 1.86M)

A bit more info, this crack is not already glued and will pull apart a little bit. It's also completely through the wood

Attached: 20181028_122657-1470x3024.jpg (1470x3024, 1.21M)

No idea. I don't think it was a war known for its marksmen. Realistically speaking, he was probably drunk. I bought a copy of "The Fifth Column and Four Stories of the Spanish Civil War", and most of the stories are just him drinking at Chicote's Bar in Madrid.
Putting my English major hat on, the SCW is a literarily barren conflict. Orwell's pieces are mostly political wankery, and Hemingway's are just boozed-up and poorly written. I'm positive a lot of good writing about the war has been done in Spanish, but I can't speak that language and I'm not interested enough to care that much.

Finally got out to the range yesterday and took some new surps shooting. The Type 99 was a big surprise and performed wonderfully with some handloads with cast bullets. My K98k had some windage issues but that'll be easily solved. Can't wait to see what they can really do with some proper loads.

Attached: 20181223_125707.jpg (4032x1960, 1.77M)

Stupid sideways image, let's fix that.

Attached: 20181224_130519.jpg (1960x3653, 3.24M)

Type 99 group at 100 yards. I thought it did pretty good for me not being able to really see the target. How'd I do and do you think it can shoot better?

Attached: 20181224_130456.jpg (1905x2268, 1.9M)

Try to shoot down a biplane

Fuck, ive been staring at a Swedish Mauser for almost a month now, but I just cant justify the money. Its in great shape and good price, but I just cant seem to make up my mind on it. How do yall cope with spending money?

Get a better job

>crazy unobtanium gun for sale locally
>it's at a low price and really good condition
>it's missing the extractor for the bolt
>said extractor doesn't exist online
Fucking hell. Is there any way I could get the part built by some fancy pants machinist?

Milsurp is really the only "frivolous" thing I spend money on. I don't have the highest paying job, and necessary expenses and savings come first, but I'll be damned if I won't spend a little on me.

post bolt action perfection.

Those are some funny looking 1917s

Attached: 20180921_183752-490x1008.jpg (490x1008, 213K)

Depends where you are and how complex the piece is, but most likely you'll be able to get the piece built. You might be paying more than it's worth, though. I'm part of a mostly boomer collector's club and they've got plenty of guys who have parts custom built for their unicorn-tier guns when a piece breaks or they don't want to wear out a flimsy original part.

>mauser action
>perfection

Finally got my Nazzzzzzi Astra 600 today. Not the greatest condition but it’s serial number is in the 200’s which is pretty neat.

Attached: 65BB1779-6BF0-45BF-BADC-D2A09FC1C91F.jpg (1280x720, 309K)

I love spending money, it makes me feel good.

Attached: 20181012_102344.jpg (3556x1110, 2.68M)

I'm working on it. There's a MAS 36 and a M1917 in my near future. Don't talk shit about my A3, though.
Nice! I remember shooting one of those when I was 13 or 14. It belonged to a family friend, it had waffenampts and the original holster. I remember thinking it was really cool, but thinking it was the least comfortable pistol I had ever shot.

>trips
Guess I'm going to travel to the nearest airfield and try to shoot down biplanes now

What military pistols were adopted/issued with stocks besides the artillery luger, c96, and hi power? Im trying to make a list and budget out for them. I figure im already over 10k for a luger and c96. Just need to plan how much debt il be in after

I found some chick online selling a mk3 enfield for $100. She claims the stock has been sanded down and the metal was reblued and it really looks like. Says the bore is dark and it fires but $100 is so low its sketchy imo what you guys think this is the pic she sent

Attached: Screenshot_2018-12-24-14-47-04-1.png (720x546, 620K)

One of the early walther p38 prototypes had one.

That doesn't look sanded or reblued to me, but I'm no expert. Regardless, I'd still take it for $100. If you're worried about getting a shiv in your asshole, do it in the middle of the day in a relatively public area. Also bring some friends with you.

We are several states apart so it would be mailed to lgs, the condition looks good for $100 i guess in just worried it doesnt fire or its been milled and this broad cant tell. Fuck it, even if its inoperable ill just hang it on the wall.

Looks like an M91 rifle and it's set for volley fire.

For $100 it's worth rolling the dice - you can strip it for parts (that stock set alone could restore a bubbaed SMLE) if it doesn't work out.

I say go for it. Just make sure that you actually get the rifle and that you don't send a Benjamin into a black hole.

The most audacious part of it is how proud he was of his 50's-60's model 70s that he brought with him, and how well kept they were. I just don't get the disconnect with these people, his durr rifles were prized, yet my surps with real history were no more than something to "work" on.

cousin selling me his moist nugget for $200 next week since he owns three since he likes the Chinese mosin more than a ruski mosin.
>mfw im getting a hex mosin with bayonet and all the accessories for really low

That looks good to me, I'd pay 100 for one

They are fun little rifles. I love mine.

>tfw best I got was a 1943 Izzy (all matching, gorgeous finish, and shiny bore) for $199
>tfw no accessories or bayonet
Fug.

>Anyone pick up anything interesting lately?
French Rolling Block

The Type 38 bolt action rifle is the greatest ever made.

Attached: YuuriAtArms.png (1390x1080, 759K)

Might be the wrong thread but do you guys know anything about flare guns? The army navy store nearby has a surplus polish flare gun for 1p0, comes with 2 flares and red and blue smoke. Can you reload for flare guns at all? Seems like id be a fun piece but i doubt i can find ~25mm flares around easily

Nice. There's even one in the thread image.

I have one of those. Fun little toy. 26.5mm flares are hard to find and expensive, but you can get an adapter to fire 12 gauge flares, which are at least easier to find. Yes, 26.5mm flares can be reloaded, but its not all that easy. Still, I like mine, and it was worth the $80 I paid for it.

Got the garand last week. 1943 Springfield receiver and barrel that match each other.

Attached: Resized_20181223_144232.jpg (700x1440, 204K)

Is the SKS the cheapest milsurp semi auto? Or is there a better option, Cuckifornia-fag if that matters.

In California, your options for a centerfire semiauto rifle realistically are:
SKS
Garand
M1 Carbine
M1A/M14 clone
Mini-14
Ruger PC Carbine
Fight Lite SCR

Anything else will be cucked to the point where you might as well not bother. Of these, the SKS and PC Carbine will be the cheapest options, and the Mini or the SCR probably the best options for SHTF. None of them are bad guns, though.

saw you in the other thread. that shit pisses me off. Post more of your Type 24

Mausers>Mosins
prove me wrong

Attached: 1544950021336.png (534x404, 347K)

In general yes. You can still find them for 4-500. Most other semi autos go for 800+

>mausers
come back when you can win a war

I'm happy now as of so far. I got a Mauser 71/84 a month and a half ago but it was missing the follower and spring. Even with that issue I couldn't help myself looking at all the matching numbers on the thing including the screws. So got a discount due to the missing part, and started to watch ebay. Finally just now bought a original follower and spring off Ebay for way less than the sorry dicount. Now I just need to find loading/case dimensions data for 11mm Mauser.

Yea, non matching follower but I've seen worse number mosters out there. One missplaced number is still good. I'm just glad it was only a 1.5 month search.

noob 24yo collectors like you are the reason prices are so high right now. i take it you have never handled one in person before?

Yeah im sure the fudd boomers sporterizing all the imported milsurp that came their way has nothing to do with it

A few times. I like them. I don't mind paying a bit extra for a manufacturer I want, plus a matching stock. Post your collection fag.

>mosins
Losing the war against yourself

I see the occasional pictures of Bannerman catalogs from throughout the years, does anyone actually own one, any good?

Which one of you fucking faggots bought that Bulgarian contract steyr m95m?

Just realized that the Enfield is most likely a fucking 410 conversion. Probably still worth it

What would make you think that? I see an Ishapore screw, but .410 conversions were single shot only.

Does anyone here have a good condition yugo mauser to sell me for 300-400 shipped? Preferably with some ammo or a bayonet.
I missed the boat on those :(
And god, I really want a Springfield and 1917 enfield too but those are really expensive.

I wish some company would make repros old military guns. Someone might in the future when prices climb even further.

no. and enjoy your shitty italian trashgun

yeah prices in the last 5 or 6 years have not skyrocketed because of what boomers did in the 60s and 70s dork. its all the uneducated millennials like you who just got out of college, have their first real world job being an office bitch and buying crap shit without knowing value

Oh good point. Idk just trying to figure out how ita only $100 i guess. Maybe its just a classic case of a woman who just doesnt know what she has?

I have yet to pay over $200 for any gun i own other my Walther P38 m8 but okay.

>Noguns mocking a hasguns
Lol.
Or the fact that there aren't anymore to import, so it's all secondary market now. Not that you'd know what that means.

Attached: 20181012_102102.jpg (3966x982, 2.86M)

I probably will. Thanks.
That sounds like it's it. Worst case scenario it's DP and you got a nice wall hanger.

Attached: 20180921_183407-1940x3991.jpg (1940x3991, 2.03M)

I just got a Finnish Mosin, someone thought it was just a basic bitch nugget. It's got a little surface rust but the bore is strong. How would ya'll recommend I clean it up?

First try an oily cloth, then a brass/copper brush. Don't use steel wool

Got this M1 for myself as a restoration project. Springfield, serial on reciever on under 1 million, but stock is mismatched and in pretty rough shape. The previous owner fired corrosive ammo through it and promptly left it in the closest for years. The bore looks like a sewer pipe. Dark as hell, rusted, but rifling is still there.

How do you all clean out your fucked bores? I've read everything from Brownell's bore cleaner to steel wool swabs, not sure how to start.

It’s an investment user, you can’t afford not to buy that swedish mauser.
