Anyone here own a Thompson Contender? I only own 1911 personally and I'm not huge into guns, but when I saw this and learned what it was I admit my reaction was "Fuck that's a cool ass gun" and I really wanna get one more just to have it. I don't pistol hunt or anything, I just think it's a fun looking gun
First, most here are nogunz virgins who want to puck back advise on guns they have only seen in pictures on the internet net. And there a few obnoxious Glawk fanbois who think the sun rises out of their ass because they own a Galway. But I digress. I don’t have the contender I have the pro hunter. Only people who sit down to pee will complain about recoil. But they make a variety of barrels in various calibers. I have shot many deer with the frame and various Calibers, It does get expensive to you want a scope on each barrel.
What's the difference between the Pro Hunter and Contender? I only know like surface level details about the contender, such as the interchangeable barrels. Are there like variations of the Contender?
To be accurate I have the encore pro hunter The contender was made starting in the mid 60s Then in the 1990s Thompson made the g2 (generation 2) contender In 20xx they released the encore. The frame of the encore is large, strong and can handle magnum cartridges better than the contenders Parts and barrels are not interchangeable between contenders and encore. There is nothing wrong with contenders they are just old technology Encore in photo
It depends If you have little girl hands go with g2 contender The frame and grip is smaller and can handle the low pressure of the 45-70 But the calibers for g2 is limited. If you have man hands and want to shoot something like 270! 30 06 or 300 win mag then go with encore. Go to TC website and compare the available barrels for each.
Honestly that image is probably just a joke but have you ever shot the thing with anything other than trapdoor loads though one of those things? 430 Grain +P Underwood Hard casts and 500 grain Buffalo Bore "Magnums" are really painful.
I would total believe some dude loading himself an excessive 500 grain load and legitimately hurting himself with a 45-70 pistol.
