In many ways its better to fight your own shit than other stuff. The devil you know and all that.

it's easier to fund and train foreign groups to help you out than it is to deploy your own military, but it's mostly a political thing so it never makes any fucking sense in how it goes down exactly. half of the time a politician will say "make this problem go away", be told they'd have to deploy carriers and 40,000 troops, then say "make the problem go away without deploying anyone". which ALWAYS results in glow in the dark CIA niggers being given millions in black money and thousands of missile launchers.

it all goes south after a while and then the next presidency has to deal with it. nobody wants to put a stop to it and just fucking deploy troops to fix the damn problem because that would mean triggering every idiot who did a political science class once in college and every asshole who had a great uncle die in the italio-ethopian war or something.

there's also the more complex issue of whether or not you should deploy at all, perhaps you should foster stability in that region to get rid of the problems, and maybe the best way to do that is to arm those radical islamic motherfuckers in the hopes that they'll form a functional (although dictatorial and incredibly inhumane) government and you'll be able to sweep your involvement under the rug. that backfires half of the time because there's no guarantee that the new guys won't adopt the policies of the old ones due to being in the same situation but it's the best you can do in a 4 year term.

I have two examples why this doesn't work and they're both related to Turkey.

In the first example is how the US didn't want to sell Turkey Predator drones. Turkey decided to domestically develop their own ones and now they have the Bayraktar tb2 armed UAV.

The other example is the Patriot system that Obama didn't want to sell to Turkey: the Turks simply bought the Russian S-400 instead.

I think this might eb the end-goal. Make the Turks buy the Patriot and cancel the S-400 deal.

The S-400 deal was to force the US to provide Patriot missile systems. US was not concerned that it will be used against them, the US was concerned that the Turks will make copies to sell like the Chinese does for their S-300 copies.

The S-400 is a different class of SAM compared to the S-300 and Patriot.

The US relies on Turkey for supplies, without TurkIsh support there wouldn't be any American bases in Syria in the first place.

The point of selling Patriot to them is that they don't have to get S-400 then. Pretty sure it is either one not both.

Turkey is self sufficient in terms of arms production, from IFVs to rifles to tanks(soon). They produce their own bombs and drones too. US is going to loose one ally, and the trust of many other allies, especially those in the region, who will be looking for new, strong friends to keep themselves safe.
