Why is the Leopard turret so fucking large?

Why is the Leopard turret so fucking large?
How can they afford so much surface area?

Because Western MBTs like the leo 2 and the ayybraps have crew that aren't exclusively sub 5'7, and therefore need actual humane size accommodations.

Cause it looks cool

This, it's just for the cool factor.

That's where the crew sleeps. They got bunks in there

The bustle balances the heavy frontal turret armor and allows storage of ammunition in a seperated compartment that is still easily accessable by the crew.

Because the bustle has ammunition and vetronics in it, not to mention the armor. The Abrams turret is actually bigger, though.

Because style

Where the hell else would you store the fridge and the pool table in a tank?

Sidefact. Do you see the slat armor on the side? Did it get hit?

Because their tank designs aren't from WWII and they keep the ammo in the turret. which is much safer than in the Hull.

Almost all of the Ammo on a Leo 2 is bunkered in the hull. The rest of the bustle has electronics and other subsystems.

Yeah almost all is hyperbowl. What is that thing next to the hydraulic pump? Is it the FCS?

Room for equipment it seems

the galley and the pool are in there, on the Leo 1 there used to be in the hull, but due to the addition of a sauna in the Leo 2 they were moved into the turret

More likely the bumped into several things, judging by the bent and mangled slats in a few places

The hydraulic turret drive has been replaced with electric since 2A5.

The turret slat armor is bent too, Look more like a projectile or detonation bent.

How do they sit when the turret is rotating?

In the middle. You can also stand if you want.

No it doesn't. It just gets bumped here and there when the tank drives around.

Highly doubt it's from a detonation, I don't see any charred plates or camo or bent inwards slats. Looks more like they hit something and it bent them seeing as they are all attached.

If it was a detonation they would have been sheared in half, broken and missing, as an RPG hit would not bend one slat only

It's Krupp steel
