I had the exact same problem with my SKS, OP.
Flip it upside down so that the receiver is flat up against the table, and give the trigger guard a very strong whack with a rubber mallet. Some poeple's trigger groups can just be pushed in with your hands, but mine needs a very strong whack. Put a folded up cloth on the trigger guard if you're worried about damaging it.
Also, make sure it's on safety, as you probably already know.
