Just got my larp setup for maximum Taxi Driver today. Also arriving today are some Underwood 200 grain JHPs that I bought when I bought some Underwood 10mm for my actual carry gun that isn't goofy like this one.
I made these grips the other day as a trial run, I have some black and red epoxy resin I am going to make the final grips with. It was my first time making grips.
You got stripper glitter in ur grips mate. Keep them hoes out the room when you make the next set.
Daniel Green
If the pressure of a cartridge firing is contained by the cylinder, does that mean a cartridges pressure is irrelevant to frame stress, and only energy/recoil affects it?
Nathan Wilson
I'll make sure they tidy up next time.
Grayson Scott
I know frames can stretch and get out of spec with high round counts (or shitty metallurgy) but I couldn't tell you what the mechanism is that does it.
Kevin Hall
No, but my 500 rounds of shitty target ammo is coming today too and I bought an extra box of Underwood so I’ll have 22 shots of real shit bullets (keeping 18 for carry) and 500 weak ones to play with and test. So excited, but it’s almost dark in Missouri for the day with no bullet delivery yet so I might have to shoot tomorrow morning at dawn.
Bentley Young
>I might have to shoot tomorrow morning at dawn.
You'll shoot your eye out.
Wyatt Ross
I wish S&W revolvers had two screws in the grips so they felt just that much more stable. They work fine and all with one, but I really wish two.
thought about getting some pearl grips but id rather just buy more ammo with the money than make a gun more pretty
Jeremiah Long
Got pic related back from Ruger yesterday. It no longer locks up and the barrel (or at least the shroud) is no longer off center. They polished the action and oiled it. Took it to the range just now and put two boxes through it, one .38 special and one .357. It's a LOT better than it was, but I'm still kinda pissed. New guns shouldn't have to go back, and customer service isn't a substitute for QC. If I tried to sell it, how much you think I could get for it? (The pic is the stock photo, but it's basically the same.)
My 617 and the Hogue in Pau Ferro i got shipped to me overseas by Brownells. After months of wait, and quite expensive (140€ total) I finally got the wood that the steel deserved. The fit in the hand is awesome too, when choosing them I thought more "form over function grips" but it is really nice shooting it now.
Am I reading this correctly? 8 round capacity but fires two shots per trigger pull? So you have 4 shots of .22 to get it done
Chase Cook
22 mag but yea. And to get around it being a machine gun it's got separate hammers and everything which is why the trigger is so long for two fingers because you need the leverage to pull the heavy ass trigger weight. Rimfire triggers already suck when there's just one hammer...
Hudson Green
Probably $700 if it's not scuffed or whatever. I know you're rightfully pissed, but I see little point in selling if you otherwise like the gun. Do you like the trigger, recoil impulse, etc? I've been lusting over one for quite some time but I've been burned by Ruger too.
Carson Robinson
>barrels coincide at 7 yards with the average distance between human eyes
There really are no "cheap" 357s I'd recommend. Low end you're gonna spend at least $4-450 for say a used GP100 or one of the six series Rugers or maybe a Blackhawk if you want a single action.
>Implying this is goofy >Implying this does not arouse user
Landon Russell
Can you guys start posting aesthetic revolvers? I'd like to get one, but damn you all post some ugly fucking guns (does not include some of the sexy SAA ones posted)
I've got an old flip-top auto eject 22, really nice H&R model 9 shot. It's a shame they don't make revolvers like this anymore, best plinker I've ever used, I like it more than my Ruger.
The cylinder, etc, is wearing down, and the hammer is light enough I'm getting a dud round about every other cylinder even with new ammo. Is this something I can repair myself, or better done replacing parts myself scrounging for parts online, or something that should only be handled by a professional gunsmith? It's from the 1930's and has been on more camping/plinking/hunting trips than I'll probably have in my life.
oof that thing looks perfect, just get a second one
Cameron Nelson
The fucking instant I get my Vaquero (I am a poorfag so I can't just buy stuff all the time) I am getting these from Altamont. If they look nearly that good in person I will be so happy.
Sell it to me user, I can use it for parts. Honestly, scouring ebay and numrich will help the best, it took me months to find a new sear and cylinder hand for my H&R 22 "Expert" yours appears to be an H&R "Special"
And you're going to want a smith to handle it, it's a solid frame so the pins will need to be knocked out, the internals can get finnicky to put back together.
John Adams
Shit. I might have to retire it, I don't want to part it out.
Yeah, the "Expert" is the nearly identical model right before my "Special" only difference being barrel length and 7 shot.
I'm not too afraid of rebuilding it, it's more that I'd have to fucking custom CNC new shit for it. Literally my dayjob is designing and ordering CNC'd parts, and between being an airsoft mechanic and appliance repair guy, I think I'd have a chance at it. But at that point I might as well buy a new revolver. Except I can't. LITERALLY NOBODY MAKES THIS KIND OF REVOLVER ANYMORE. GOD FUCKING DAMN.
I like my Super Single Six, but it's just not the same.
Oliver Williams
well if you do end up CNCing new parts consider me a customer, I would love to put high quality parts in mine, mine is also a 9 shot (I've never seen the 7 shot in person)
The ejector star on mine misaligns a bit, it would also be cool to get a new cylinder machined to be recessed.
David Martin
Cylinder and barrel we're talking difficult to machine hardened steel, but other stuff is easier than you'd think to design and order from home.
You might look into microwelding repairs. JB weld has it's uses where it's not under high heat or stress (EG, filling in mechanical wear), it's probably misaligned from wear.
Buddy, if I had 10,000-20,000$ to drop on a 5-axis mill, I'd make a living cranking out niche gun parts and live happily ever after. As it is, I'm shooting hand-me-downs and wishing I could afford insurance.
I feel you man, it just sucks that they aren't really sought after so they don't benefit from having readily available sources of parts.
My smith should be cracking mine open soon to clean her up and replace the sear and pawl, hopefully that's all I need to worry about besides the slight cylinder alignment issue.
Jaxson Lewis
Fitzgerald didn't believe in pearl grips famalam
Gavin Powell
Thanks senpai. I love it. Even the lil lady enjoys it. Shot more rounds through it than I have. Those are sweet
Jaxson Lee
will do user; it'll take some time though, so I'll probably end up making a thread about it
Nathan Campbell
Bought it from grabagun, when it came the trigger was a little scratchy. The barrel shroud wasn't perfectly centered either, but the Ruger CS lady claimed that was normal. I had less that three weeks/200 rounds, and it started to fail to reset, had to push the trigger forward. I took it apart and the transfer bar was kinda jacked. I put it back together and it another out the action really well for about thirty dry fires. Then it locked up completely. Took it apart again, same thing. At some point I lost the pawl spring, gave up, sent it in. I bitched out CS to the point they were willing to replace the gun, but really I wanted them to look at it twice. I was afraid they'd just reassemble it, fire it a couple of times and mail it back. I managed to get them to work on it another day and now the barrel lines up. I just don't love the thing anymore, and wish I'd saved up for a BFR or maybe a used Manurhin.
Gavin Moore
I got altamont bisley pearlite grips for when I finally get my dreamboat
If yo can't get or make new springs you could try removing some mass from the hammer to get harder hits.
Daniel Bennett
They're not pearl though...They're Franzite...
Parker James
Rubber grips are only acceptable on guns in stupid calibers like .454, .460, .480 and .500.
You should feel bad.
Gavin Bailey
Is it normal for Colt revolver cylinders to be slightly misaligned when you cock the hammer back really slow? my Colt OP is always aligned in double action and in single action it's aligned if you cock it fast enough
Your timing is fucked. The reason it aligns if you go fast is the mass of the cylinder moving gives it that extra little bit of oomph needed to get into lockup position.
Aiden Phillips
Any way to fix or am I screwed?
Logan Hernandez
Yeah it can be fixed but working on old Colt DA revolvers is not something every smith can do. S&W is amateur hour next to vintagecoltmagic.
As to if your screwed or not that depends. You know about the issue. You know it's safe as long as you don't slow cock it. I'm guessing some old Colt isn't your primary defense gun that you put 5-10K rounds through a year. If it triggers you that it's not right and you got monies to spend on a smith then fix it. Otherwise it's fine.
Do like OP and bob the hammer....lol No more slow cocking!
Fun fact: The company that made Franzite grips was owned by a dude who was notorious for being the armorer of the mob. He most likely supplied the Thompsons used in the Valentine's day massacre. The law never got anything on him though.
Random find of the day. My Fitz is almost a clone of the one on the cover of From Russia With Love. I wish whoever had refinished mine back in the day had left more of the original proof marks intact.
If it's just a light hammer than you probably just need to replace the spring with a stronger one, a pretty easy fix if you know a hardware store that sells springs
Any thoughts on the s&w model 19 classic? I have been thinking about picking one up when I get my tax return.
Luis Fisher
Lock bullshit aside the updates to the design look solid. If you can get a good one that didn't get missed by the 3 retarded monkeys they have working QC it should be a solid gun.
Probably one of the more sensical purchases you could make from the Classic line. They hold up to regular 357 shooting than the original M19. Ultimately though, you'd be better served getting an old M27 or M28, which also hold up to regular 357 shooting and still have that old SW craftsmanship.
Liam Hill
LGS has 6" blued Colt Python Excellent condition with original box, barely fired $2500
You could get something else you're not worried about shooting like 3 really nice pre-lock Smiths. If you wanna go high end get a fucking Manhurin or a Korth.
