I know nothing about guns, but a buddy is trying to red pill me on not just getting one, but getting a 1911.
What should I know/expect?
Where can a dum-dum like me go to learn?

Not here. Run away. Quickly. Don't look back. Also nothing wrong with a 1911 as a first gun. Classic platform, plenty of options price wise. Check out Rock Island Armory. .45 is a bit pricey if you wanna shoot more, cheaper, look into something in 9mm

www.google.com

just buy the new hi-point

Make sure you get the full size 1911. Commander and officer size are ass.

It's not a beginner's pistol. It requires a good maintenance and is not a casual gun owner's pistol. Get the Ruger 1911's, avoid flip, turk, brazillian, or chinese shit, all American, pretty darn good for the price, good platform to build up on.

Yes ,you should buy a 1911 ,either a full size or a commander don't listen to the dipshit that said the commander is ass he is a fucking faggot nogunz no1911 punk. Buy one go innawooods or innadesert or last resort a range and shoot, easy.

Used in two world wars and every conflict through Vietnam. Just finger fucking it will connect you on a molecular level with your warrior fore fathers.

I dont know if you're him, but he said the same damn things to me all the time.

Also plans to recreate Big Boss' 1911 from Snake Eater.

Not my first choice for a first gun considering cost of firearm and .45... If you're going to do it though, don't be a pussy, and gitchu the gubmint

what kind of 1911 do you want? Tactical, GI, compact, government sized? Also, do you want a SAO pistol thats single stack, pretty heavy but very slim and harder to break down if youre used to glocks? Ask yourself those questions first

Is this the new fresh meme? Everyone is going to buy them and post em for shits and giggles?

It's not hard to take it apart. It's putting it together without getting an idiot scratch that can be tricky.

You didn't get the memo? Since it's a fixed barrel gun, meaning you don't need a complicated booster, we're all gonna build hardware store suppressors and then have regional meetups to shoot them together and have brownies.

Is the the 5" the full size or the 4.25?

My wife got me a Springfield Loaded 1911 when I graduated from college back in 2003. It started out life very nice, with a Chip McCormick trigger, beaver tail, and commander hammer. But there were things I didn't really like about it, notably the two piece full length guide rod, the flat mainspring housing with the bullshit built in "Safety Lock", and the ambi-safety.

So over the years, I've frankensteined it into what I now consider to be terrific. And others who have shot it are equally impressed.

I changed the bullshit ambi-safety for an extended length Ed Brown safety, I installed a new set of Wilson Combat springs, and a Wilson GI length guide rod, I got a Hogue arched mainspring housing, and a set of Pachmayr Decelerator grips. I also have Ed Brown mags.

I am an old, blind, fuckstick, who can't shoot. And yet, with this lovely piece of hardware, I can consistently hit an 18" gong at 100 feet! Not too shabby! I can't do that with my son's Glock 17!

I think I just stumbled on the perfect setup, and everyone who has shot my pistol, even people who know how to shoot, say so.

You are right. The old lady in the gun range let me finger fuck a 1911 and the trigger was much better than my M&P 2.0. #2 on my list to buy this year for sure.

I got a 1911 as my first gun, but it's not a good first gun. Most of the mid-tier 1911s are more expensive than modern firearms like Glock brand Glocks, which are easier to disassemble and maintain. The 1911 has a lot of small parts, and is not the best choice for defensive use if you want something for that purpose.

dude, go fucking shoot a 1911. then go shoot a glock, a sig, or even a full size metal frame pistol like a CZ75.
in the words of an immortal jewtuber: you be the judge.
1911 is mechanical poetry. fucking butter my dude.
capacity is only downside

Whatever you do, don't get any Series 80 1911. It is trash.

1911s are easy to use, very safe, and a pleasure to shoot. You would do well to start with a 45. Two world wars.

Your buddy is a fudd motherfucker.

For the love of god, don't get a 1911 as your first gun. It is not a good first gun, it's high maintenance and not good for cc and not known for being reliable. Go get yourself a 22 or a 9mm pistol, even a browning hi power if you want to impress your fudd friends. Don't get the 1911

>talking like he’s 60
>graduated a couple years after I did
I hope I don’t sound like this.

OP get what actually interests you. A glock or some shit might be more practical but you should get something that engages you with gun ownership.

AYY I’m in that

Pretty much any gun forum has 1911 info. It's everywhere.

Get a Colt for your first, Series 70 if you can, but series 80 is OK. You'll be sorry if you don't. Everyone wants at least one real 1911, not a clone, with a pony on the side. Some say they don't, but they lie. Go ahead and scratch that itch right out of the gate and save yourself some time, money, and disappointment.

Assuming you graduated college at 24, you're only 8 years older than me. Why do you talk like a legit boomer? Also who can't hit an 18" gong at 30 meters with a Glock?

I can almost guarantee you didn't go to college until you were in your 30s.

this

great gun for russian roulette

Correct. Didn't graduate until well into my 30's.

Literal 30 year old Boomer poster

Instead of settling for Brownings 1991, you should get the gun he liked more in every single way.
