If Russia and the United States were fighting isis in syria why didn't we team up instead of distancing ourselves and coldy stairing at each other?

As for someone that was there it's all politics. The soviets backed Assad and his regieme because they want to retain their war water port in Latakia. Obama is a stupid ass and had us back Anti-Assad/ Anit-Isis Militias who only went full arab and died horribly. Round 2 was the Kurds who have been treated like total shit under assad however, they love killing any and all arabs as much as we do.

TLDR Proxy war

There is so much more to it I only gave the Jow Forums response. Honestly the whole conversation would belong on Jow Forums if it wasn't a cesspool

>The soviets
Wrong decade.

Because Russia supported ISIS, we have little in common with their goals.

Their main motivation was protecting a Black Sea Fleet port in the region amongst other political bullshit. Don’t think for a second Russia is doing what it is doing for the betterment of Syria, because it isn’t.

Wrong decade but that's Putin's goal

>he doesnt know the US government was funding ISIS

Lol we aren't either. We raced them to secure the oil fields in the east of the country.

Because Vladimir Putin is still fighting the Cold War

Never said the US was any better, it isn’t. But at least most at this point acknowledge it. Meanwhile some for whatever reason believe Russia is somehow any different.

The Superpower's burden. China is doing the same shit just less overt

Yeah under oboonga now that trump is president we are dropping Jdam's from B52's instead of dollars from C130's.

Jesus fucking Christ you're a retard.

because we aren't
russia is just protecting it's ports from ISIS.

>If Russia and the United States were fighting isis in syria
No one was there to fight ISIS

because politicians are fucking retards and would rather have pissing contests instead of getting things accomplished.

We literally could have. In the run up to the election Trump implied there was no reason not to.

Then the whole collusion bs happened and now he has to purposefully take a hard line on Russia

Because Obama made deals with "moderate" terror organizations that are hostile to our allies.

The US isn't fighting ISIS. The US created ISIS.

Ten dollars that was intentional.

Why don't two lion prides fight and kill each other when there is clearly enough prey and land for both of them to exist?

*do
not even phoneposting, just being retarded.

How fucking stupid do you have to be to actually believe the Russians when they said they were bombing ISIS?

How fucking stupid do you have to be to actually believe the United States when they said they were bombing ISIS?

How fucking stupid do you have to be to actually believe the United ISIS when they said they were bombing ISIS?

No that was a good run down.

because obama was a faggot who wanted to try and act tough for no reason

Of course they're bombing ISIS. That's why the US is mad.

Politics. Russia has been backing Syria since the Cold War and has a lot more vested into the Assad family's regime and has not been a stranger about Islamist militants near its borders, see the Chechen and Soviet-Afghan Wars. Syria is now what pre-2003 Iraq was, a known quantity that can keep everyone else in the region in check and Russia wants the security of a strongman who will do whatever it takes to keep his monopoly on violence.

The vacuum that the US left when we leveled the Iraqi state and saw the killing of Saddam Hussein created instability as the buffer between the Iran Hashemites and The House of Saud in Saudi Arabia was destroyed. Then they had their own proxy war - one product of which was ISIS after the US abandoned the Sons of Iraq and they sought new leadership - with each other in Iraq that the US on multiple occasions got tangled into. Syria is now the power in that specific part of the region and keeping everything under control. Russia essentially learned from the part 40 years of wars in the region, came to the obvious conclusion that regime change is bad news for fucking everyone and decided to not let the US fuck it up this time around and took a more sane approach - back the known quantity rather than shatter their entire world into thousands of pieces.
