Less likely to have a manufacturing defect that would cause a failure, and lasts a larger number of repetitions. You'll wear out like 4 barrels before you ever kill a milspec spring though, I find them to be a little unnecessary.

So, I'm trying to decide what build I should do next since Washington is about to become a cucked noguns state.

Right now I'm thinking of doing an AR-10 build so I can use it for hunting and such, but I'm also toying with the idea of doing a 300 memeout build so that I can throw a suppressor on it eventually.

Mainly I'm just looking for something that would be a good all around rifle for plinking, varmint hunting, coyote hunting, possibly big game, and possibly home defense.

I already have an AR-15.

How do I go about shopping for an 80% lower? Friend of a friend took me shooting for the first time yesterday, and now I want to build an AR. I looked around online, and I found pic related. It seems to be simple enough to use, and I'm willing to buy the tools I need to finish it, but I don't understand what makes a lower cost $50 vs $90.

If i were to build one myself what are the good brands to buy from, is it the same as building a normal ar-15 with atleast a faxon barrel, toolcraft BCG etc or should i shoot for better quality.

youll have to do more research. although there are a lot, the parts arent as varied as their 5.56 counterparts. also, youll need to know what parts you can use, dpms vs armalite/ar10 being the big one. upper receivers are another "thing", with options like ar10/armalite, dpms high, dpms low, dpms g2, and i think rra has their own thing as well.
its a little bit less idiot proof than a 5.56 rifle but still very easy, you just have to double check things.
btw, my 308 faxon barrel shot like shit. i sold it real quick.

This, some of the cheaper lowers are polymer. Some people like them, but I think they feel pretty shitty.

Also, maybe get an Anderson 80% or something that looks like a regular forged receiver. Some of the billet looking ones feel like they have odd dimensions

Building an AR10 is not as plug and play as an AR15. Best to buy the whole rifle.

Their barrels are shit. The only reason they use the stupid thick profile they do is because the company is too shortsighted and shoddily run to move out of NH or whereever they are where barrel profiles are restricted by caliber. Spending any more than $800 on an AR that doesn't have a modern barrel profile is dumb dumb.

Other than that the guns are good as fuck. Nice piston system, lowers are great, feel great.

I've had two Faxon barrels, a Gunner 14.5" 5.56 and an intermediate profile 16" .308
The .308 was in my AR10 and shot an average 0.91" 5 shot group with 168 grain federal gold medal match averaged from four 5 shot groups, and I'm a shit shot. Faxon is good to go budget stuff.

My gas block is in the way of an M-Lok hand stop I'm trying to install. The screw sticks out too much and touches the gas block. Is my solution to just grind a few thread wraps off of the screw?
