Colt guy here. I am putting exactly 30 rounds in the mag, and it doesn't lock in. It's not 31. As long as the bolt is locked to the rear I can put it in. Sure, I can keep the bolt locked to the rear as a load a mag, but I shouldn't have to do that with a colt, nor do I want a mag loaded with 28 rounds.

There's lots of talk, I doubt many people outside of PSA know the truth. FN makes a fuck load of barrels to a fuck load of different specs. After experiencing their nitride (((quality))) on the dirt cheap upper I would steer as far clear as possible. Most inaccurate AR barrel I've owned, will give it another couple hundred rounds to break in but I'm not expecting much if any change. Their "premium" barrels have treated me well enough in the past, pretty average accuracy, service grade. Their QC in general chaps my ass though. Have had more canted front sight posts and other small bullshit from them than any manufacturer to date.

PSA has been using them since before FN was offering their civilian line.
I'm sure they're made under contract to a certain spec. It might be a looser spec than milspec, but who knows. I definitely wouldn't trust internet message board rumors on them being rejects.
In my experience they group about 1.5 MOA with match ammo, which is pretty damned decent with a chrome lined barred in a gas gun.

Anything else, including the nitride, parkarized, and stainless barrels are all not made by FN

I stick to lower 1/3 on dots. Works great with some fixed sights. Also helps for longer shots since getting behind the small rear peep kills any and all dot glare.

My magtech and cbc M193 and 77gr OTM is all consistent as can be. Only shorter velocity spreads I could get through a chrono was from expensive match stuff. PPU M193 is surprisingly consistent as well.

20" minimum barrel length, if you want a shorter gun you should get a bullpup.
BUIS only work with non-magnified optics and must be fixed in place. You won't have time to screw around with flip up and quick detach things in the high intensity do or die combat situation you're trying to address.
Handguards should stop before the gas block. Longer is dead weight.
Standard issue furniture is seriously fine and there's no rational reason to use anything but. If your M4 stock rattles you can shim it with some kind of tape or slightly thicken the buffer tube with paint.
