i have a few and i’ve never had a problem.
i would not use them for messy stuff because they can be hard to clean and over-lubricating them can cause problems
if you do have an issue, getting them serviced can present problems - The Hollow Grind may be helpful
they ARE nice knives

I am not sure what you mean by OTF, please enlighten. I use these, picture is just from new. One of those is carbon steel with full patina now after a couple years use.

The Spyderco is a great edc knife, the Gerber has taken some abuse really well and the Buck I bought because it was pretty.

Viper OTF is disgusting.

For $20-$40 ranch Ontario rat folders are good, you can also get some decent stuff from steel will, Kizer, cold steel, or ruike. Anything higher budget spyderco and Benchmade are good.

Hey anons. I'm trying to get a good fixed blade knife for self defense but don't know much about quality for knives. Looking for a 6-8" blade. Anyone have a recommendation for me?

I currently have a kershaw I got somewhere (I forget) but I don't like the blade, and it's getting somewhat worn

Kershaw is good but assisted opening is kind of a meme at this point. Their newer shit like the dividend and atmosseems nice. Rat 1 and 2 are always great options although not that unique.

Absolutely.

Look into cold steels recon series of folders and fixed blades. Also the SRK. Crkt obake works also for a lower budget. Carrying something like a kabar isn't really practical for most people.

I googled kabar and the knife that came up looked like what I'm looking for (7" blade). Why do you specifically not reccomend it? And thank you for the suggestions - I'm going to check them out.

They're bulky and heavy, not really practical for concealment. Ontario also makes similar knives at a lower price but lower handle quality and such, won't really impact fighting ability. Also check your local and state laws before carrying a large knife.

Appreciate the help. And I'm in Texas, knife laws are super relaxed here now. People are carrying swords all over the place.

you vs. another guy with a knife and you can't run = you both probably die

you vs multiple assailants and you can't run = your knife gets taken from you, you die and maybe one or two other people die. you're still dead

you vs menacing perp and you can't run (scenario 1) = you kill perp and you get convicted on murder charges, get assraped in jail

you vs menacing perp and you can't run (scenario 2) = perp pulls gun and shoots you dead, tells jury you pulled a knife and gets off. you get buried

Just ordered that same Gerber knife on Amazon. I was looking for a nice fixed blade knife with a full tang. I'm just too hard on my folding knives and they keep breaking, so I went with this. It was the only one without retarded serrated edges or other autistic shit.
