What is Jow Forums carrying? Been switching between critical defense and Atomic 124gr +p JHP.

How fucked am I?
>carrying FMJ
Stop it
Keep a 10rd mag of this stuff in my ccw, and a 15rd mag full of 60gr civil defense on hand.
I honestly don't know why more people don't carry these loads. Both Underwood and Liberty make damn impressive loads for every common caliber and they're unquestionably reliable. I get that civil defense is expensive but Underwood isn't, every company that can come close to competing in terms of performance is notably more expensive for some reason. Sure you might not find Underwood at your lgs all the time but when you can have it shipped to your doorstep in 2 days there's no reason to go looking for it.
Why?
You'll over penetrate and have a great possibly of hitting an innocent bystander. Plus it's way less effective than JHP in taking down a target.
If you can place your shots in the right spots, it doesn’t matter. But fmj’s do overpenetrate more than jhp’s, and there’s always the prospect of a civil suit coming from a bystander who gets hurt from over penetration.
And while penetration is always a big factor with effectiveness, it’s a bigger issue for wild animal defense than human defense with modern ammo.
He's not wrong user. Terminal damage from handgun caliber fmj's is complete ass and unless you're hitting them in the heart or the ocular cavity you may as well just line up your asshole for the raping you're about to endure.
This nigga for real?
NovX 65gr
How common is "underpenetration" for a typical hollow point?
I remember a thread on a similar topic and that came up. Seems unlikely unless you're fighting someone with armor.
BB SWCHP 38 special
Best non +P 38 load you can get imo
Extensive studies have shown that as long as you're using anything chambered above a .32acp you're probably fine.
Have clapped a hog in the forehead with a 165gr hollowpoint. Did fine, trust it's performance against everything that isn't armored (that's what the 60gr CD's are for)
124gr +p
Cheap enough where I can practice with it, but not super behind the times.
Underwood extreme defenders are the best 9mm carry, I tested the +p+ loading against 3a body armor and it blew right through. Hot .357 sig ball ammo didnt even get close to going through. The rounds seem to explode pork shoulder pretty good too.
For 10mm, carry 180 grain underwood jhp for dindus (they expand to be an inch across and they penetrate 16"), 100 grain extreme defenders for feds (they blow through armor and barriers like crazy, they chrono at about 2000 fps from my glock 40), and 220 grain hardcast for bears (even from a subcompact 10mm these rounds will go through 70+ inches of ballistic gel)
my department uses these. I've not shot them yet but im sure they will work fine if I gota bop a bitch
Holy shit I hope the next time I need a cop I get a Jow Forums faggot on call.
I liked carrying critical duty when I had a .40. Think I'm gonna see if I can find a box of it for my 9mm.
My P230 .380 ccw is using the same critical defence you have posted.
Speer Gold Dot 147g HP
Been carrying Federal Hydra Shok for a couple years now
Winchester JHP +P.
nah, theyre not that bad. good expanding ammunition is a more recent development and for a long time it was just wadcutter and ball that did fine.
Sure, a good jhp would be better but either you hit vitals or you dont.
depends entirely on which jhp you use. nearly every type has been tested in gel and so long as you reach 12" everytime you should be good to go ans that includes shooting through the arm into the heart.
If you want to be extra safe, look at something that averages 18" and youll over penetrate nearly everytime unless you hit arm bone into rib bone into spine maybe but that would be a fatal shot with even a lesser bullet.
XTPs are an old under-rated bullet thats still being made because of how efficient they are. Theyre known for only expanding 1.5x but are probably the most reliable expanding bullet out there that doesnt fall apart. Hunters love them for this reason, even expanding through fur.
Good choice desu.
Honestly not as much as and would have you believe. Over 90% of deaths from small arms have been with FMJ then wars are considered. The likelihood that it will go through someone and kill someone is very, very small. that said, why not just carry some basic, cheap "older" JHP since it is marginally better.
It’s nothing really special
Barnes tac xpd if the store by me has it in stock, same projectile as the corbon shit next to it but a couple bucks cheaper
or this shit
Honestly, VERY good ammo for the price and it's pretty hot too. Rumor is that this was shit for the RCMP. Not bad stuff.
>not 124 grain fmj 9mm nato
never going to make it
stop wasting money on hyper ammo
youtube.com
Price is good, very accurate in my g19, better performance than federal hst so it wins for me and I hate sig shit but can't deny their ammo is good stuff
youre a hyper fag
Probably a meme round, but that weight savings is pretty nice.
9bple
Yes I know about the jacket separation, no I don't care. It worked great for the troopers that used it, and was one of the first 9mm loads that was considered to be a one shot man stopper.
Except it's not better than hst.
Except it is.
youtu.be
Ah yes, tan jacket psuedo science man.
>Not an argument
Considering nothing he posts is scientifically valid, using him to back up your claims of Sig superiority also has no validity.
Hst is shit faggot. Your carry choice is garbage. Literally nearly everything outperforms it. Speer Gold Dot, EP, Critical Duty. The only thing that it beats is Remington crap and that's not saying much.
147gr 9mm Remington Golden Saber
No idea if they are good or not, but if i get attacked i will absolutely empty the magazine on that nog.
care to explain what tests are better and prove the contrary?
Here's 124 v-crown through the standard FBI protocol:
Here's 124 grain hst through standard fbi test protocol. Deeper penetration, and better expansion.
Here's 124 grain stats using, 20 rounds tested.
Here's 124 grain hst stats.
>Lucky Gunner
LMAO this nigga think lucky gunner actually posts scientific tests and not shilling shit for whichever manufacturer pays them best.
I like Paul Harrell, and generally enjoy his videos. But his ammo tests are good samples of one because there is a lot of variance in the controls.
The biggest thing that he proves is that people probably do not need hyper ammo.
LMAO this nigga thinks oranges are lung tissue.
The only good thing they've ever done are those ammo tests, my guy.
LMFAO, yeah, gelatin with an obscene amount of denim taped to the outside is a better substitute for a body than actual meat, ribs and a water membrane. The FBI tests are a fucking meme, even the cucked ass FBI leaned on shooting meta data (which also has problems) over that shit.
>Claims science
>Uses totally biased institution as sauce of scientific testing
Nigga u is retarded
This.
FBI uses critical duty because of real life performance/results in a real medium. Muh cops have killed more niggers with it then blocks of goo wearing jeans.
The biggest point here is it doesn't really matter what you carry as long as it doesn't over penetrate. I carry 9bple and couldn't give 2 shits about gel tests, as it's a proven load.
The issue with the meat Target is consistency between shoots. There is no way to guarantee that the thickness if the meat is equal, or the solidity of the bone. The test is a great showing of what a cartridge does to a particular bag of oranges and some ribs, but does not offer good comparisons between tests.
There is a reason the FBI gel tests exist.
I can't be the only one
Love golden saber. Bonded are better but both have a great record.
Oranges, steaks, ribs, and leather jackets are a lot closer to people and animal makeup then fucking gel and denim you retard. Yes his tests aren't perfect because of variances but hitting that shit with a bullet is a better simulation than goop
theyre actually pretty good m8
I use underwood mixed with geco.
I'd use pure underwood but it occasionally has feeding issues so I make sure the chamber first shot is uw then the follow-up are all regular.
Should use the highest quality rounds you can find, cost shouldn't matter just enough to fill your magazines, how many self defense situations will you have in your life, so why cheap out.
shooting random meats, oranges, and rags is not as scientific as shooting a homogenous, consistent block of jello that was calibrated to simulate human meat.
No, jello wont show exactly the performance a bullet will have on a human but neither will paul's tests. With the jello, everything can be made the same each time.

Christ, you Harrell fags are retarded.
Wait, you're calling me a retard because I said that oranges aren't lung tissue? Are you being for real right now? Also, you're responding to multiple anons.
You're being called a retard because you think gel and denim are infallible as a ballistic simulation of bullets hitting people or animals.
That isn't what I said at all. I said it's more repeatable than a sack if oranges and ribs. If you are comparing loads does it not make sense to use a consistent medium?
I carry 1980s ammo in my 1980s pistol.
I'm probably going to switch over to Critical Duty when I shoot what I have. Those damned newfangled caulk-filled JHPs are significantly cheaper.
Youre a retard because you cant comprehend the importance of having a consistent, repeatable medium to test with.
>The likelihood that it will go through someone and kill someone is very, very small
Kill someone, sure. That was never particularly common. The bullet does lose a lot of energy going through the first person.
But the NYPD (the last major PD to ditch FMJ), for example, accidentally shot a second person behind the first every other time they shot someone on purpose, just prior to switching to JHPs.
I few JHP's as cheap insurance that I won't accidentally over pen and hurt someone unintentionally.
Yes, why not buy our hurrdurr ammo for 50USD per box of fifty rounds, why be cheap.
Good goy.
Lol but seriously Underwood and Lehigh shit is cost prohibitive as fuck especially for what it is
>Don't be a poorfag
I highly doubt anyone is doing thorough vetting of any of the ticondas when even for richfags it makes you question do I really want to spend $3 to pull this trigger?
>that moment when the thread is successfully derailed past the point of return by a couple of faggots
