I'm 18 and graudating high school this summer. Thinking about joining the army or marines and going to talk to a recruiter as the summer nears. Wich of these two branches is best for a kid fresh out school? Which job will fit someone my age best where I won't be out of place?

Im 19, about to turn 20.
Have an almost obsessive need to support myself without family's help.
Might be out of a house soon, what do Jow Forums?

Thinking of joining the marines, and was wondering what do tanker and aav crew do along with what are deployments or time on meu is like?

i'm typing this form my airforce dorm in tech school currently and this shit is lit if you want to be self sufficient at 18 or 19

AFSC? Sounds like a you're having a good time

Where can I buy 30mm shells?

It's edition you Meathead

>he dont math

good goy die for israel your greatest ally

I'm 32 and in decent shape mentally and physically. I suck at math but I'm pretty good at everything else. I really like helping/caring for/dealing with other people. Shooting at people or being shot at is fine with me. What are some decent prospects for me in the military?

Attached: 1547701403703.jpg (1024x682, 203K)

Do you have a degree? a job? a family?

I have a bachelor's in something the military doesn't give a shit about

No real job

No family

>I have a bachelor's in something the military doesn't give a shit about
You can commission as an officer anyway. Officers get better pay and quality of life. They don't deal with a lot of the bullshit enlisted do, and at your age anything enlisted is a waste of time.

What branches were thinking about or what jobs were you considering?

>You can commission as an officer anyway.

Is that actually true? I thought you had to have a degree in something real like STEM

>What branches were thinking about or what jobs were you considering?

Army or Marines. Jobs I don't know about. Something where I get to deal with real shit and actually do something. I don't want to be counting beans or tidying up an office. I'd like to do something that matters, whether it involves dropping ordnance on people or not. Like I said in my original post, I like dealing with people. Mentoring/guiding younger people to avoid mistakes and get stuff done would suit me. I don't mind starting at the bottom and learning how to do stuff. I just want whatever I do to be something real rather than bullshit. Sorry if that's too vague, I'm just not sure what my options are. The only thing I'm sure of is that I have the proper attitude to succeed at whatever I do.

Kek

>Is that actually true? I thought you had to have a degree in something real like STEM
Nah, I know fucking pilots with psych degrees.

>Is that actually true? I thought you had to have a degree in something real like STEM
Yes as long as your GPA wasn't terrible
>Something where I get to deal with real shit and actually do something
>Mentoring/guiding younger people to avoid mistakes and get stuff done would suit me.
Maybe look into Warrant Officer. They get the best of the officer side and the enlisted side. they still do their technical work but dont have to take shit

Is the dlab hard?

officer is the best way to go but it wont be exactly what you're looking for

>but it wont be exactly what you're looking for

Why do you say that? And what do you think I'm looking for? Honest questions.

>Yes as long as your GPA wasn't terrible

3.5 IIRC. That should be good enough right?

>Maybe look into Warrant Officer. They get the best of the officer side and the enlisted side. they still do their technical work but dont have to take shit

I'll keep that in mind and look into it, thanks.

3.5 is fine.

Whether you decide to go for CO or WO dont do enlisted. If you stick with it you'll be surrounded by high school kids for years and work for McDonalds tier pay.

>If you stick with it you'll be surrounded by high school kids for years and work for McDonalds tier pay.
this isnt necessarily true. college credits let you join at a higher rank depending on how many you have

>dont do enlisted. If you stick with it you'll be surrounded by high school kids for years and work for McDonalds tier pay.

Noted, thanks. I wanted to go officer but I just wasn't sure that was even an option.

I guess the answer is here is I'd better talk to a recruiter.

>this isnt necessarily true. college credits let you join at a higher rank depending on how many you have
The highest you can get with credits is E4 the last time I checked. That's not a good spot unless your under 22. Wanna know how I can tell you're a neverserved?
Officer is the best choice, but talking to a recruiter can help you narrow it down to what you really want. Just be careful of the lies and mind games they'll play with you to fill their quota

Good go slave away in my company so I can buy a new yacht

>Just be careful of the lies and mind games they'll play with you to fill their quota

I've read about this, and I'm wary, but I don't know exactly what this will consist of. Any advice/resources I can turn to?

Should I treat a recruiter the same way I treat a police officer who's asking if he can search my car?

not that guy, but recruiters want to get you in, but on their terms. they're told what jobs are undermanned and will try to get people to sign on for them by lying about the job or trying to persuade with bonuses.

my recruiter would come up with bullshit excuses and convince me to take a different MOS. he went as far as to feign laziness and not answer his phone. this is on the enlisted side though i dont know abou the OCS process

Can someone compare Navy CTN to Army 17C? How different or similar are they?

does anyone know if recon is still doing combat deployments? i got out in 2011 and was looking to re-enlist bc i have nothing else in my life. ex-tl told me that i should just go into the army and try out for sf, but that pipeline is like 2 fucking years long if you dont break a leg during sfas

On a meu you're just along for the ride and do basic bitch work as needed. That's really it.
Deployments aren't going on right now really so idk what you're looking for

Do you know how warrant officers work? Doesn't look like it

Very similar. Army 17c is mostly under cyber com. Ctns are not strictly cybercom so they also do what 35qs do, depending on billet. Really it boils down to branch though and what you want out of your time in the military.
both are chill but CTN is more chill. They technically can deploy on a ship but it's not common and they don't do anything when they do...yet

how pissed will my natguard recruiter get if i tell him i want to join the usmc instead

if you're in DEP, very
if not, who cares?

This

Honestly, I'm not sure myself. I guess I would like to see the world, but I assume most of my time if I join the marines would be stateside. I'm also tempted to join the air force instead.

I've been attempting to get into Navy OCS for about 4 months now but my recruiter has been totally flaky. I recently found out that he was moved to the enlisted side and that I've basically been wasting my time. I'm going to talk to an Army Recruiter today since I'm sick of living with my dad and his 3 stepchildren. Is this a bad idea considering I graduated with a shitty degree 3.1 GPA? Can I advance with enough effort on the enlisted side?

3.1 is good enough for OCS, a degree would also get you to E-4 specialist as enlisted. But the only reason to do that would be sub 2.5 GPA or desire to go into a specialized field (Army CID with a CJ degree, or Counterintelligence, both with the goal of going warrent), but you don't seem to want those.

anyone know anything about the Cal Air gaurd or reserves?
then again I just turned 35 last week. but Im getting fat and waiting tables isnt cutting it.
it would take me a month to get 2 miles under 15 minutes again.
>just found out I can still join air force proper
I took the asvab in high school and got like 98th percentile.
but I know regular air force is all negro women yelling at competent men.

whats the california national guard or reserves like for air or army?
or reserves?
not about the money. just about the benefits/resume material. out of a bad relationship and have nothing holding me to anything anymore. a POG uniform would mean a lot to my dad I guess is the real motivation for me.
normal air force I think I can get all the information I want from MEG
but air/army guard and reserves in CA? anyone know anything at all? youtube is nothing but propaganda vids from spics and niggers talking it up.

Dunecoons can't fight

Whats there to know?

1 weekend a month and 2 weeks a year.

Pick a job, go to training, come back home, resume life.

Earn a few hundred bucks a month, access to cheaper shitty health care, and maybe 1 deployment every few years(depends on unit).

I personally would suggest going for a long training job that gives a certificate or license, so you can get a full time paycheck for a year or so, to save up for when you get back home.

35T is chill as hell, and you can earn an AA and a bunch of comp certs. There are other good computer jobs, but this one is a bit more relaxed.

91F can get you an AA and gunsmith certification, if that interests you. I always see arms repair or arms room full time jobs for guard stations. Good way to earn uniform AND full time federal pay.

If it wasnt more than 140 bucks, you dont have to report it.

Also, just write received speeding ticket fined x amount and paid it/it was dropped/judge threw it out. Whatever.

neither could that american ship apparently

thanks.
the more I look into reserve and guard though why not just go full active airforce?

Is war really a ugly and terrible like the civilian world makes it out to be?
Do soldiers generally enjoy war?

this thread is for americans

Hey guy asking about AGR/Technician job here again.
Now if I go the technician route, its like a normal job right and I dont have to worry about "boatspaces" or reenlisting or anything? Like I could potentially have that job until I retire?
And if I go the AGR route is reenlisting easy or is it like the Marines where all the people get out because its difficult to get a spot in reenlisting?

>tech
You could keep that job forever, but the GS level doesn’t really shift so no extra money with rank and time. The benefit is that you’re more competitive if you want to move around in the federal world. You can also move around in the Guard for promotions and schools or deployment while retaining the federal technician employment.
>AGR
Essentially it’s a 3 year tour or active contract, but you can come off the orders without repercussion and go back to traditional drill status. Staying past the tour depends on the mission and unit, recruiters are AGR, and I’ve seen some do it for 10-15 years. One guy went E-5 to E-8 in recruiting then left when an E-9 slot came up, he went straight to a battalion ops AGR position. Networking is the biggest plus to the Guard, AGR guys usually help each other out and bounce around between different tours.

So say I take the tech job and because the generals got their panties in a bundle it switches over to AGR in a year or two. Am I pretty much fucked? Specific job is aviation maintenance. (idk if youre the bro who helped me yesterday)

Yes, it’s me again. So they’ll probably keep everyone in place if they switch over to AGR, which honestly is a better outcome for you. Career wise they’d keep the techs in place years because the grade min-max is so big. Kick around for 6-10 years as a mechanic and move up into an admin role or take a tour at state headquarters. Also if it were a true AGR only shop, you wouldn’t need to drill or AT unless you had to come in to support another unit.

holy shit youre the biggest lying neverserved ive ever seen in one of these threads... why do you civies come here and post like you know what youre talking about? stop spreading innacurate information because you want to LARP

If you want to see the world then join the navy.

>after 8 months, med waiver finally came in

Yeah I was in the Marines and I was in NC the whole time aside from the DET to Mississippi I went on

>why do you civies come here and post like you know what youre talking about?
It’s the autismo equivalent to the gun shop commando, or the 5.11/grunt style queer that ‘could’ve served but...’

It's the same few guys who do this, I think. I don't know why, but they're losers regardless

>What are some decent prospects for me in the military?
National Guard

OK gents, so I am in the process of filling out paperwork for Navy OCS Pilot. Now I arrived at the question I dreaded, "have you ever been depressed for more than two weeks" or something like that. Now in high school I was proscribed zoloft and cymbalta because I was an angsty teenager but got off it before I got to college. Should I lie and just say no? If I do say yes will this nuke my chances?

So what do pilots do in their respective branches?

Attached: 1416186786602.jpg (1280x853, 526K)

Fly mostly

this. please dont post advice unless you've actually served. it should be a bannable offense. also, its painfully obvious when you dont know what youre talking about.

Very funny post by a very funny user

What the FUCK am I supposed to do about this? I want to join this summer but is this normal? Do recruiters text people and try to befriend them and shit?
Is he even legally allowed to ask me personal questions like that?

Attached: sweatypeepe.jpg (646x595, 42K)

Pick up your spaghetti user, he just wants to follow up. If you’re wanting to leave in the summer you really should be looking at signing a contract now anyways.

Can you explain what's bullshit in this guy's posts? I'm interested in either enlisting or OCS and this generally what people tell me.

I don't want to leave in the summer, I was just going to go back to his office in the summer and signing up then
Plus I'm a couple thousand miles away from him right now at school

Not in military but
>look into warrant officer
As far as I can tell that's only available to mid level NCOs and civilians looking to become pilots.

I can’t tell whether I should be impressed or terrified.

Ask dumb questions, get dumb answers

No wonder they are our greatest ally.

What designator are you shooting for? 3.1 is good to go for SWO, SNA, NFO, and I bet you could swing Supply. However, if you're trying to go Intel, you're just wasting time since it's very competitive at the officer level.

Based retard

>recruiter is the best dont turn him down
the best what?

When is your 18th birthday?

Look I get it appears tistic as all hell but I was an only child with fucked parents so I pretty much just stayed in my room playing vidya or reading for my entire childhood. I'm not good with social interaction alright
That being said is it normal for recruiters to text someone like that? He's a professional, not a friend

yes it is normal, but he's only pretending to be friendly. youll encounter a lot during the enlistment process, especially during your investigation

Do you also cry when the McDonalds cashier ask how your day is going?

I don't eat at McDonald's you stupid piece of shit
And you know what? The fact that you assume I eat at McDonald's on a somewhat regular basis shows that YOU are in fact a McFatass who eats there all the time
You're a stupid fat fuck who wouldn't stand a chance in the military, at least I have the option to go

Investigation?

>if you eat at mcdonalds you can't serve in the military
Nani the fuck is this post

during your security clearance investigation if you continue the enlistment process they'll be essentially play good cop with you to try to get you to come clean on anything that might disqualify you. not a problem if you dont have anything to hide

is there much pussy at ft. benning? joint base lewis?

What if you got the scroll?

Attached: 1547135807737.gif (420x213, 2.73M)

You wanna know how I can tell you're LARPing? It's because you're talking like you're in a James Bond movie. Get the fuck out of here.
Fucking faggot I eat at McDonalds all the time. You fell for the Super Size Me meme didn't you?

Do you mean something other than criminal or medical issues? Because I'm clean on those

Uh oh, hit a trigger point huh? Get fucked kid, McChickens are the best.

Attached: A5A48569-4E96-49BC-BF12-0F601CA88BCD.jpg (4032x3024, 2.63M)

don't join, if shit like this bothers you then you're a pussy anyways and you'll just be a shitbag.

The recruiters do not play good cop, they teach you what to say.

"Have you ever smoked marijuana?"
"Yeah a few times"
"No, have you EVER smoked marijuana?"
"Yes"
"No you haven't"

That's the most common example, but they will constantly push you to lie about shit.

How long is a clearance good for?

My recruiter was pushing me towards Intel for some reason, but supply corps sounded like a good idea
