It's not my purview to discuss modern implications, just stating it's historically untrue to state that the founders intended the constitution to be applicable to anyone other than citizens, which whites were the only ones eligible to be citizens at the time. The movie The Ghost and the Darkness, by all accounts, did a stellar job fairly representing the work and working conditions of the Indians building the british railways in Africa. Both the book and the movie, the movie will give you a great conceptual image but the book goes further into detail about it.
