Currently 135 grain Hornady Critical duty but I will be moving back to 147 gold dots.
What's your carry ammo?

Gold dots exceed fbi tests
Hst is what I carry
Both are good choices
Winchester white box, 115 grain ball ammo.
147gr HST standard pressure.
10mm 100 grain extreme defenders
>2000 fps from my glock 40
>will btfo anything not behind a quarter inch of steel
115 golddots. Got a box of 124 golddot I'm probably gonna switch over to. Was carrying 147 HST before, but I like the lighter stuff for easy followups
Liberty Civil Defense
I half carry it because it shoots like a fucking dream and is 1/3rd the weight of other ammo, and the other half I carry it is because at least a few absolutely butt blasted morons on Jow Forums go full blown autismo when I tell then I carry it
Why do you want to kill your neighbor's kid?
147gr hst’s from american reloading
4.2gr N320
Its slightly compressed, and its fucking hot. Primers are are at the point of cratering.
Fuck getting jewed by federal for $16.99 for a box of 25.
You can buy the 50 rnd LE boxes online for about $25-$27. Still sucks but better than the 25 rnd boxes.
*renders your carry ammo obsolete*
I'm really digging the lighter, faster ammo trend that's picking up
150gr HST in a p30sk lem 1
7.62x25 glock when?
Why do they get like that? I recently saw the ammo and thought about giving it a spin.
A man of culture.
Because it doesnt penetrate the FBIs super special recommended depths that were explicitly determined based on the chance you shot someone through the right arm, then the chest, into the heart. Which is the technically longest distance a bullet would have to travel to get a kill shot in a defensive scenario.
The ammo is fucking great, it has no recoil, its lightweight, its fast as fuck and absolutely explodes on target.
This is worse than the rubber bullets. Figures some lefty wouldn't know what screwdriver heads are. Probably hasn't screwed anything in his life that wasn't a dude.
Nothing wrong with HSTs, but this is the 21st century.
That image is at least 8 years old
9mm critical defense
Damn, that's older than me.
>its fast as fuck and absolutely explodes on target
>after penetrating about 2"
FTFY
Could be wrong, but I thought 10mm technically did make the 12" minimum? While the lesser calibers were hit-or-miss.
Just so you are aware, you can absolutely get 10+ year bans for making statements like that. Even as a joke.
124 grain +p Hornady XTP for that reliable expansion + guaranteed penetration
Some calibers penetrate less, most calibers pen at least 10 inches.
The 9mm and 10mm version will penetrate IIIA vests.
You are correct.
It also depends on the gun being used.
The ammo does penetrate well enough to kill people, everyone just likes to sort out over the FBIs bullshit testing due to one lunatic getting hit with 9mm in the 90s and not dying immediately
Thanks
>dubs conf patrician taste
Haha I see. I mean to me it looks like it will poke a lot of holes into a lot of vital arteries and lungs even if it just goes into the right side of the chest. Like theres a lot of stuff to bleed to death quickly from in the chest/armpit area
124gr gold dots representing. It's the same stuff LAPD and NYPD use, so it has a lot of vetting for acceptable terminal effect
also, the fact that speer makes 124gr lawman which mimics the pressure curve and recoil impulse is really nice.
I am tempted to try the memetastic 50gr Liberty Civil Defense because gel tests look impressive, it is reputed to defeat 3A body armor, and its recoil impulse is supposed to be much lighter than 124gr recoil. I've got a box, I just haven't got around to testing them myself yet.
147 grain gold dot might, but 115 and 124 do not.
But a lot more recoil
A lot more recoil than what?
In the same cartridge, light, fast bullets generally have less recoil than heavier slower bullets. It's quite comparable to common .357 magnum, .40s&w, or .45acp loads, and less than full-power heavy 10mm. Of course it's somewhat more than 9mm, but I wouldn't say "a lot" even there.
Calculating the velocities for various other bullet weights to have the same recoil:
100gr@2000fps
124gr@1610fps
158gr@1270fps
180gr@1110fps
230gr@870fps
This in my LCR38. Appendix carry so I keep my wads near my wad.
>having the same muzzle energy means having the same recoil impulse
wanna know how I can tell you've never shot a gun before?
He's right retard, lighter bullets have less felt recoil than heavier bullets even if they're going faster.
>can't tell the difference between muzzle energy and momentum
Look at the numbers I posted, dumbass. Do those look like the same muzzle energy?
125gr gold dots from Buffalo Bore.
It's my favorite ammo. The recoil impulse is almost non existent. I've had much tighter double tap groupings with them than a lot of other brands.
seems you replied to the wrong comment, friendo
That's exactly what I'm saying. Given equal muzzle energy a lighter bullet will tend to have a more flat recoil curve instead of a sharp recoil curve.
Yeah, my double taps with 124gr lawman usually land within 2 inches of eachother, given .3 or .4 second splits at 7 yards. It might get tighter with liberty ammo, but I wonder how much better that would actually be for terminal effect.
winchester green and white box 50 gr full metal jacket 25acp
165 Winchester T or 230+p Winchester T. When I carried a 9mm it was always 124+p HST
(not him, this is and again)
>Given equal muzzle energy a lighter bullet will tend to have a more flat recoil curve instead of a sharp recoil curve
Given equal muzzle energy, a lighter bullet will have less momentum, and thus less total recoil impulse. Flat vs. sharp doesn't even need to come into it.
Hence my list of velocities for equal momentum.
Gold dot 124grJHP +P
Agreed. Its pretty cool.
From right to left, curious if I know my ammo
Speer
Goldensabers
Winchester Ranger
Hornady XTP
Corbon?
I have no idea
I want to believe but I always worry about gimmick rounds. I would love to see real world testing with all copper projectiles.
>9mm
Why are you carrying less lethal ammo?
115 grain sig v crown.
check out the barnes triple shock hunting rounds - there are lots of hunting videos of them. They show pretty good terminal effect and it's no doubt in my mind solid copper rounds can have good hollowpoint expansion after using them myself.
killed three deer and two hogs with .223 triple shocks (admittedly, one of the deer and one of the hogs were headshots)
124gr HST in pistols
147gr HST in subguns
can typically get them for $20 for a box of 50. Best bang for buck ammo out there imo
147gr Golden Saber because I got a shit load of them for about 25cpr.
have you broken any guns with them?
I've noticed that golden sabers have pretty stupid recoil compared to even other +P offerings in 9mm and .40
.40 S&W. I keep a Sigma in my center console. Great for bears, deer, and of course NIGS.
135 grain Critical Duty is based
Hornady American Gunner (XTP) 124 grain +p in my PPS M2.
HST 147 grain in my P01
I based my decision primarily on the tests of a lot of hollow points by Lucky Gunner, and Barnes showed very good results.
Hornady american gunner xtp 38.99 for 75 screw paying 25 for 20
I'll run XTP out of my .45 9 times out of 10 because it's cheap, feeds well and has good results.
thanks for the help Jow Forums
you never know whos wearing 8 layers of denim, so fuck your 9mm and 38 spcl
ah, gotcha. be careful though because I myself tend to carry full size or atleast a minimum of a 4" barrel and they only do their testing with subcompacts iirc
Sig 124gr JHP. the reliability has been flawless in my pistols and I like the nickle plated cases. aside from whatever waterproofing benefit it offers, it also makes it easier to tell apart from brass cased training ammo at a glance.
147gr HST, standard pressure. Any particular reason for you switching?
>100gr XD
>2000fps
Proofs.? Those get like 1800 tops from what i've seen.
Eh, i'll wait on that tell i see real flesh and blood results at appropriate velocities.
That isn't the only reason, bullet penetration IRL is a lot more variable than gel results. a bullet that penetrates 9" in gel might penetrate anywhere from 5-13" in soft tissue depending on what it actually passes through.
IDK about calling them a gimmick round for being all copper, those have been around and in use in handguns for a while now. Pretty sure taurus used to brand and sell them back in the early 00's or maybe even before that.
9x25 Dillon is superior.
underwoodammo.com
Probably the best cartrice for self defense on the market right now.
Eh, at least a 7.62x25mm cartridge could probably reliably get more than 100fps > than comparable .357 sig loadings. So it'd have 9x25D beat on at least one front :)
I carry ball ammo because I don't give a fuck. All these people talking about "shot placement". Why carry expanding ammo then? If I shoot somebody, the likelihood of hitting someone with a pass through is almost 0%. With this said, I do carry hollow points when I have them, but people are dumb who preach "shot placement is all that matters", then shit on the idea of carrying something like 9mm, .380, or .32 ball ammo. I thought you said shot placement? This is why I do actually believe in hollow points and the terminal effectiveness superiority of larger rounds like .40 and .45, but I still carry 9mm for cost and convenience.
Nice meme
Hand loads. 125gr nosler hollow point @ 1520fps.
Planning on getting mugged by a gelatin block?
In what cartridge?
>penetrates 9"
why tho when there are bonded bullets on the market actually capable of handling such velocities?
carry a spare mag of FMJ you absolute downie.
Look at the difference in penetration and wound cavity between your rounds. If you think you don't want to be able to tell which you're sending down range you deserve to be killed in the streets
I carry some locally produced 180grn .40S&W hollow points using hornady jhps. goes about 1100 fps out of my handgun and expand beautifully.
But it's not.
There have always been random manufacturers pushing gimmick bullets to retards.
you mad princess?
124r hornady +P american gunner
I appreciate the hell out your honesty and not give two fucks attitude. In some aspects, I differ in theory, (only carry .40 hollow point rounds) but I do carry 230 ball when I carry my 1911.
Give it time. Cartridge development takes awhile. I wouldn't call some of these gimmicks, they're getting 9mm through Kevlar out of pistol barrels, so there's definitely some advancement.
I can't see what you're replying to but I keep a 17 round mag of 124 NATO ball in the center console
I was wondering myself. I can only assume the user he was responding to did not, in fact, carry a spare mag.
165gr Sig Elite V-Crown
95gr PMC Starfire
12ga 00 Federal Power-Shok
nice dubs yeah, he was talking about the shit meme that is stagger-loading FMJ and HP rounds.
ohh ok gotcha
That's what gang bangers do. You always see that on on those police pages
38 super.
They were getting 7.65x25 through kevlar a long time ago.
No one carries 7.65x25
And no one wears kevlar on the street
Gold dots
Well damn slavboo no need to be a Debbie downer. And Tok is bottle necked, where as now they're getting results with standard pistol cartridges. Just highlighting there is some neat improvements, as opposed to random gimmicks like RIP and so on
>as opposed to random gimmicks like RIP and so on
and underwood xtreme memerator
and lehigh everything
150 gr lead roundnose 38 special handloads
Based Gramps
Now now user don't be so negative. I like the fast, lightweight 9's. I wanna see where this goes
add-
jello isn't a human body and all of these meme bullets might as well be FMJs. handgun bullets, even light for caliber, do not possess enough velocity for any significant secondary wound. these screwdriver bullets look good in jello because they were designed to do just that.
I'm a 40S&W guy, currently keep two mags of HST's with my Glock 35
Paul ran a few of em on the meat target as well, granted it's cold animal excess, and if I recall correctly they performed equal to HP, and better than FMJ.
Are wadcutters actually a viable defense round? I've heard different things.
The make nice round holes in things, real good if you want your target to bleed like a motherfucker.
Yah. Definitely don't have to worry about them deflexting off of bone
