Yesterday I got a Smith & Wesson Model 10-5 with pic related boxes of ammo. The ammo all looks to be about 1960s era, maybe 70s and was basically stored in a dresser drawer for the last 30 years. Before that, who knows how it was stored, some of it has obvious corrosion on the case. What's the consensus on the ammo? Shoot the stuff that looks decent, or pass on it all?

Most looks like this
And the K frame itself
Welcome to the club of patrician gentlemen of taste and distinction. Forget that ammo. It's not worth it. Keep them for display that shit is cool.

Much appreciated on the info. This thing was basically a safe queen, a couple hundred rounds put through it and then it was put away. It was my grandfather's and he gave it to me yesterday, so it's even got some family history with it
>it's even got some family history with it
Best case scenario. Try adding a grip adapter for maximum hand sex.
Basically this.
Most likely bad scenario would be squib rounds. If you don't notice it can be bad. Not worth shooting them.
I have a set of those grips in the box. Did they come with both types?
Put the boxes in a display case. Pretty cool.
As far as I know only War time Victory models came with smooth walnut service grips. It's possible your grandad or someone else just made some grips for shits and giggles. Smooth grips are the easiest to make.
Wouldn't surprise me. The holster was made as leatherworking practice by a friend of his and he was into woodworking. He had a black powder pepperbox pistol that be built from a kit and made his own grips for.

watch this vid, it's great, but if you're too lazy the tl;dw is that if it's made by a good reliable manufacturer stored in a cool dark place (like a dresser drawer) you should be alright. It's not gonna blow up your gun, worst case scenario some will be duds but that's about it
Yeeeeesssss..... K frame best frame. Once you get used to holding the grip correctly they are fucking awesome.
Show us those M41s I heard that the bullet on the M41 was undersized at .355" in order to reduce pressures in aluminum framed S&Ws issued to aircrewmen.
I'll up a pic tonight when I get home.
There are people who collect old ammo and ammo boxes, should you choose not to shoot it. Some old ammo is pretty collectable, I've heard.
Where do they buy and sell it?
What's the correct way to hold a k frane? I just picked up a Model 10-5 as well and live it but I've only ever shot j frames and SAAs before.
Pasta cause it seems like a lot of spinboi newfags in here.

Pic 1
Judging by this, I'm pretty sure most of these are reloads
I measured them against a box of known factory loaded Remington, the green box from above pics. This is the Remington green box
Next is a random pulled Remington UMC case marked round
Then a second UMC marked round
Fuck yeah. Personally I like T grips on smiths.
And finally pulled what was the oldest looking round in the box, with these marks on it.
This was the measurements of the old one
Looks like I had a few rounds of it. Definitely undersized compared to the rest
