For my course my instructor walked us through every stage of the practical with the specific guns we were using for the practical, so by the time we took the test each person had already practiced the exact test at least once. I plan to go with a 1-6 because I want a cqb type setup (yeah, I know it doesn't make sense for 308 but I only have a PAL, I didn't get to choose the course since it was a work perk and don't think I can afford to go through the hassle of the RPAL, so I don't have an overwhelming choice for firearms).

Current plan is a Kahles K16i, but it's going to take me time to work up the cash. Any reason an LPVO won't work on a 308? Any of recommendations for optics to look at? Considering the NF NX8, accupower 1-8 and swarovski z6i.

In spite of the hate it got in the other thread, it's objectively way better than other optics in the sub $1000 price category. I looked at pretty much every sub $1k optic I could get my hands on, and except for the vortex PST gen II and viper w/ the deadhold BDC reticle, it blew everything else out of the water, including the C79A2 (tbf it's known to be shit), Leupold VX-R patrol, and most burris, nikon and bushnell stuff.

Obviously high end variable zoom scopes are preferable, but under 1k, they tend to have a significant fishbowl effect and mediocre glass. If budget is a concern, prism scopes are a solid choice and you'll be pleased.

Over 1k though, and I wouldn't even bother. It's honestly a joke that there are still people shelling out big bucks for ACOGs in 2019. At least go for the elcan DR 1x/4x.

To elaborate, the glass quality is significantly better in them than in low end variable magnification scopes. At lower price points, they perform much better.
