I don't know where the notion that anything narrower in profile than the grip itself is a rat tail tang, but I must admit I suspect it came form someone wedged quite deep into his armchair.

This is a rat tail tang.

make way you fucking plebs, the colichemarde is here
>quick as a rapier but sturdier and can actually slash
>can parry and deflect blows from much heavier blades without suffering heavy damage
>punches through armor like it's not even there, and handy enough to find the fault in the few examples of plate that will reliably stop it
>will break smaller blades like they're month-old pockys if you go and strike your parries
>the unmatched manoeuverability of a fleuret without being for fucking pussies
>blade can actually be much longer, will poke your eye out while you flail around hitting only air
the Cold Steel one is somewhat decent, but knew a guy that had his own made custom, and that sword was the most pants-jizzingly awesome murder stick I've ever laid eyes upon
only the shamshir comes close in terms of balls to the wall greatness

>>quick as a rapier but sturdier and can actually slash
Apart form the usual tired and tiring hyperbole that suggests you're actually thinking of a lightsabre you're confusing the rapier and the smallsword here. Smallswords tend to be very light and quite small things sacrificing most cutting ability to focus on the thrust. Rapiers on the other hand tend to be quite large and sturdy things, and while focusing more on the thrust than the cut can be somewhat decent at cutting as well. And to fit the colichemarde into this, well, it's a kind of smallsword with an extra wide upper blade. it may tend to be quite large and sturdy as far as smallswords go, but as a really heavy smallsword is perhaps at the extreme light end of rapiers that's not saying much here.
If you really are a fan of them then understand them for what they are and let them be just that instead of some overblown fantasy inviting claims of the direct opposite.
