A return to wheeled Anti-Tank guns?

Now that we have APS and Trophy systems coming in, is it time to bring back wheeled Anti-Tank guns with modern guns and APFSDS ammunition?

They would be a hell of a lot cheaper than having a proper Tank and would be less likely to be spotted due to their smaller size and a lack of heat signature.

Thoughts?

>lack of heat signature

You know these things need vehicles to move them around right

I suppose you're right there, but after the gun has been set down the vehicle could either leave for other tasks or cover itself with a tarp or some shit so it's less obvious.

You know how long it takes to move them? Especially in a rapid combat environment? What does it do that a few AT4s or bigger cant do?

We're talking in the context of APS/Trophy systems being standard on tanks in the future. Something like a rocket/ATGM is specifically what these systems try to counter.

So why have the vehicle and the weapon apart.

anything that could kill a modern mbt would probably be to much of a bitch to move on wheels

just use horses then?

So just spam portable AT weapons instead of having to drag around an artillery piece?

Never. Towed artillery with smart-shells will remain viable. With the accuracy of modern weapons direct fire weapons need to be squad portable or self-propelled. Static defenses don't work unless third world armies are involved.

Not saying that this is the solution, but the wheeled gun is defensive and you sure as fuck would not be firing one with the towing vehicle attached or even near by. Don't be rarted

I didn't know horses have the ability to conceal their thermal signature.

So it's a frontline weapon that can't move

Retarded

So you fire two missiles, idiot

Front lines don't move very fast in urban warfare. There's zero need to keep the truck and gun literally next to each other and it can absolutely also be packed up and rolled down the street by hand if needed. ATGMs are not exactly high mobility weapons either

22 kilos is what a Javelin weighs

4.4 tons is what a 120mm cannon weighs

>Intended to fight tanks
>Oh but don't worry everyone will make sure they stay still

Moron. Rub those two brain cells together and figure why people stopped using them half a century ago.

I'm talking about systems like konkers. I could not see this working out in modern militaries. But in conflicts like syria or Crimea, the sky is the limit

>Real life is like vidya

Do you understand how much the tide turned against ATGMs? in the past, a crew of 3 or 2 men with a single launcher could stop a tank formation, but now you need to set up a complex launcher in order to hit a single tank?

A Konkurs ready to fire weighs 36 kilos. You and the OP are still retarded.

>in the past

Why the fuck are you talking about reality like it's your fantasy history?

>Do you understand how much the tide turned against ATGMs?

Do you? Because you're the one thinking active kill systems are suddenly ubiquitous and invincible

That's not really the issue and it's still not much of an issue in urban combat. It's silly to be instantly dismissive of anything unorthodox when we've seen people resort to trebuchets and putting T 72 turrets on the back of pickup trucks

Thermo-Cataphract horsies pulling railgun 88s!!!!

Oh right so you saw a video of a trebuchet so lets resort to those now.

I mean, you saw a video of it, they must be successful

Guys this is foolproof. Right?

why would aps not activate on hmg rounds? brb peppering tank with 50 cal and setting off aps then shooting main gun. maybe tanks need 30mm coaxes for this role for longer range.

No, its time to use those systems yourself and supplement your armored force with light tanks equipped with APS and heavy gun

hit it with some 152mm HE

Because they don't have the funds or supply chain to service a goddamn wheeled artillery piece you moron.

>Hey but look at what these people with no resources who lost their war did
>Lets copy them!

>Be grunt in Venuzela in 2020 war
>Asshole Jow Forums larper won autism war with DOD, so got assigned to 2019 6 pounder platoon
>Have to make it 105mm with sabot rounds cause thats the only thing that will penetrate modern tank armor
>Try to back a jeep up to move it
>Jeep gets stuck in jungle mud, can't move it
>get fucked by HIND strike cause we can't move this rediculous oversized gun that can only be towed by a jeep

No, what you do is have a missile that fires a smaller missile first to take the APS hit.

The Russians already did this with an RPG five years ago.

US armed forces have mothballed all the jeeps in the inventory, meaning if they've been reactivated we're either fighting aliens or nukes have already been launched.

No. There's no real reason to put an anti tank gun on a carriage like that when it could be mounted on a vehicle, giving it some armored protection, ability to get away from artillery fire, and ability to fire more powerful ammunition. Even most regular artillery guns are starting to be mounted on vehicles now.

Guys, guys. What if (tokes)...yeahh that's the stuff (coughs) what if like we put the wheeled gun ON a motorized body! Like heymangthisisgoodstuff whereyougetit like maybe if we even put armor around it as well. Whoah...

>Missing the point/10

you don't need to penetrate a tank to destroy it

So you take the AT gun and put it on treads.
