Open both eyes, close left when you are on target to get good alignment. With practice you should be able to use ring and post sight with both eyes open.

Keep your open eye relaxed, and looking at the front sight post rather than the target or the rear sight. Target and rear sight should be blurry, front sight post in focus. Practice. As far as irons go, A2 irons are actually quite good and work very well.
