Olfa / Snap-off blade, it's a utility knife that was designed by two Japanese brothers in the 50s. They designed it because regular razors that they used to cut paper kept getting dull and unusable. The idea for the sections came when recalling how a chocolate bar, given to them in their youth by an American GI, had the ridges to be broken apart evenly.

That hasn't been my experience. Locking the blade and smacking it on a concrete/tile/metal surface is all I've needed. Granted I use a relatively overbuilt knife and good blades
