Depends on the model, the Ju-88R was slower and had a worse armament than comparative Bf-110 models. Ju-88G was a completely different animal and superior to the 110 in every respect.

To be fair, LeMay mostly wanted to burn gooks, slavs, cubans, and communists. None of those are objectively human.

The Luftwaffe (and Condor Legion, prior to WW2) bombed civilian populations as the opening moves of offensives or to try to lower enemy morale. That obviously angered the British when it was done to them and they wanted revenge. Turns out the Germans using divebombers and medium bombers to go after cities wasn't that effective, but waves of British heavy bombers targeting German cities was effective.
Using that kind of strategy first can open you up to having it done against you in return. It's not about morally right or wrong, it's about an eye for an eye. It's why neither side in WW2 wanted to open up the Pandora's Box of using gas on the battlefield.
