Ruger 10/22 Takedown

Any experience with the takedown models? Any reason I would avoid one over a normal 10/22? Looking to buy my first long gun and I like its compactness.

They're fine but why not get a big boy gun and buy a PC Carbine instead?

Well for one, they're fairly unreliable and they have an extremely poor capability for repeated zero. If you are dead set on getting a takedown 22, I highly recommend the Marlin papoose. It's much more reliable, has a bolt open on the last round and is much more precise.

The 10/22 is an outstanding rifle and good value. While I never bothered with the take-down models, there are after-market folding stocks that work great and will reduce the storage length to that of the take-down, but the rifle itself is not so long as to be inconvenient. I used a folding stock for awhile, but went back to the original birch stock because it just felt better.

>t. never owned one
I bought mine, a new production model from 2005, last year and I love it. No issues whatsoever holding zero and the only feeding issue I ever had was because of bad ammo.
The only two complaints I have are the sights and the trigger, both of which I replaced with aftermarket alternatives.
Get a new one cheap and it will reward you.

I personally would prefer a Ruger Charger with a folding brace, especially if you plan on getting a suppressor. I don't really own any 22lr guns, I'm waiting for the kel-tec cp33. I'm not going to buy the ruger, it turns out.

Ive got a takedown and I know a half dozen others that have one or several and they are just as good as a traditional 10/22

You, sir, are a dumbass who either have never owned one or does not know how to use it.... Not a single issue holding zero, very reliable, and accurate... There is plenty of dead cats, rabbits, and squirrels that can confirm that mine works great.

Get a .22 mp5 clone. Srs.

The stock collapses down to the size of a takedown 10/22 half, and the ones with mock suppressors are as accurate as a bull barrel .22

Take a look at the T/Cr 22:

>Stock made in conjunction with magpul.
>Integrated picatinny rail into the receiver, made of 6061 aluminium. Makes the receiver MUCH more rigid and MUCH more accurate then the standard shit 10/22 receiver.
>stainless steel bolt, with rounded edges that make bolt removal/reinstall much easier
>oversized charging handle
>last round bolt hold (only on the t/cr22 magazines though)
>threaded barrel
>adjustable peep site at the rear of the rail and with fibre optic insert making a longer sight radius.
>compatible with 99% of all ruger 10/22 accessories
>4.4 lbs

>basically a semi-custom 10/22 at a decent fucking price.

Why the fuck wouldn't you get this instead? no one I know who has that shitty ruger take down ever takes it apart.

They work fine.

Personally, it's not super convenient. Even for woods shit, I would rather have a good rifle sling.

You don't own one or have watched any reviews of anyone who has ever owned one. They are just as reliable as a non-takedown 10/22 (IE as reliable as a .22lr firearm can possibly be) and just as accurate. The rifle doesn't lose its zero from being taken down and put back together, ever, and even if you're worried about that you can just get a model that has iron sights (both of which are on the barrel).

i like the look of the x22 backpacker stock

The Backpacker is great. 30 rounds of ammo in 3 mags in the stock, folds up and locks up tight, good accuracy, and just makes the 10/22 much more convenient to bring to the range to have fun with.

Here is mine, the Accupoint is for shitposting.

I certainly enjoy mine, cant wait to get some ground squirrels in the spring.

>rifle that has both sights on one piece
>losing zero when taken apart
Pick one.

Sir you are convincing me. Last year purchased a TC Compass in 308 and it's fast become my favorite hunting rifle.

I know. I want one myself but my funds don't allow for it.

I was trying to find a decent backpacking rifle for cheap (primarily a 10/22) but once I added up specific mods that I would do the price ballooned.

With the T/Cr22 90% of the mods would be done. The only thing I would add is an extended magazine release that wraps under the trigger guard, only because I have one on my 8lb 10/22 and it is the cats puckered ass.

>muh anecdotal 10/22 is reliable post

Disclaimer: I own 3 10/22s, including one with 400 dollars of aftermarket and generally suck rugers dick and have owned a variation of all their modern production firearms bar no.1 rifles, a few handgun, or any ruger ar15.

10/22s fall on the less-than side of the reliability scale for semi automatic 22 rifles. This is objective fact, just run hot loads is not a valid answer, but mine works great is not a valid answer. The average cletus 10/22 is a jamomatic and his marlin isnt, if that is because he is a fucking hillbilly when it comes to cleaning so be it, but it doesnt make it irrelevant for any reason.

This is because: 10/22s are budget guns directly compared with meme shit like henry takedowns. I bought one for 100 dollars.

Everything about this post is wrong
t. own one, love it.

I have a henry Ar-7, not really very comparable with the 10/22 but it's an option if you want to go down the rabbit hole of collapsing .22 furthest

22 is so much cheaper

Ive owned 4 10/22s. 1 standard. 2 of the talo exclusives (mannlicher and m1 carbine copy) and 1 takedown.
The takedown has been by far the worst of them. Even with following the proper procedure it didn't once return to anything. Near zero, and it's groupings were at least twice the size of my other 10/22s. Add to that the fact that I never even experienced a moment where the takedown feature was necessary, I'd definitely say that the takedown isnt worth it whatsoever.
If you do get a 10/22, get a model that has fiber optic sights, the m1 copy, or add tech sights. Stock ruger sights are trash

Taking from your experience, what 22 would you recommend to someone in OP’s position?
I appreciate both of your posts, as well as the other ones in this thread- thanks Jow Forums! For all the unreplied posts out there, I’m always lurking and reading and almost never replying!

I would still recommend a 10/22. I guarantee that is using shit ammo like remington or armscor. The 10/22 being reliable isn't an anecdote, thats its reputation.
But as for model, like said, either get one with upgraded sights, or upgrade them yourself, or just attach a scope/rds, since they come with a rail. Something like would be intriguing and I like the sound of it, but have no personal experience with it.
If semi-auto isnt that much of an issue for you, you could also look at a cz 527 or similar bolt .22.
