What guns would you own if you were limiting yourself to a utilitarian collection? I hate the idea of owning a ton of guns I never shoot so I’m trying to find 5 or 6 that would give me a well-rounded arsenal

>AR or AK
>full sized handgun
>concealable handgun
That's really it for bare bones. I'm not going to even pretend a shotgun should be on that list, but you'll get a swarm of posters thinking SHTF is going to happen and they'll be bird hunting and shit.
Winchester model 12, Savage axis, Ruger 10/22, AR15, CZ75, and a Smith and Wesson J-Frame .357.
I’m doing the same thing. Planning to get a suppressed .22lr rifle and a battle rifle then call it quits
Personally
> .22 rifle: Example Ruger 10/22. for fun and also later introducing my children to firearms.
> carry pistol: more of a personal choice I guess but definitely a full sized like a glawk problem solver. This is for carrying on your person.
> shawty: a pump action 12 gauge, to keep at home to keep diverse rocket scientists and doctors from breaking in and for fun too
> some kind of AR model rifle: this thing can be customized in many ways. I would definitely keep some spare uppers in case I want to try something different.
>special gat: I would say for your last gun it should be something that you personally like, not because of its utility or functionality, but because it looks cool.
Agree on shotguns, but cant say I really see the point in 2 handguns. Glock 19 fills both roles adequately IMO.
10/22, Ar 15, and Glock 19
One for hunting, one for majority of engagements and a backup.
Parts and ammo everywhere already.
AR-15 5.56
S&W 686+ .357
S&W 649 .357
S&W 617 .22
S&W 500 .500
Mossberg 590A1 12ga
I don't think revolvers are better than autoloaders I just like them a lot.
This is my collection of well used guns.
+ Glock 17 MOS
I don't feel the need for more guns...except maybe a battlerifle.
>no soul
i have to admit, that practicallity was in the foreground of my decisions.
So...you are not wrong.
Well, they are very practical, but
>black on black on black on magpul
magpul was already replaced...at least on the ak. couldn't stand the look
remove the beretta, colt, sxs, and the SKS. Then replace the ithaca with a benelli nova and you have the list of guns I would keep if I needed to sell off the useless ones I own. there's about 6 more added since this photo but the guns I actually use are all here.
also to add to this, if your shotgun is less than 26 inches it is not utilitarian in any way, especially if you own a PCC or an AR or AK. All you can pretty much do is slug hunt with it, and it's not as effective for home defense. with 26 inches or greater now you can reliably hunt birds, you can still slug hunt for big game, and it's a lot easier to nail ground varmints. Replaceable chokes makes it even more versatile.
Variety is the spite of kikes, why limit your ownership when you can easily arm no-guns to kill commies and jews.
There will be no civil or race war, user. Hate to break it to you.
Not with that attitude.
I have a few extra guns b/c of deals and getting them way back when I had a different philosophy of use for them, but if I had to narrow a list for firearms I own/want to own, I'd get
>G3 for long-range practice, hunting, and SHTF for the family cabin
>AK for regular range practice, home defense, and urban SHTF
>P320 for daily carry
Okay Manson, helter skelter that race war to fruition. Also bullshit like that rarely even gets to committee, and never a floor vote. How old are you anyway? Are you still in high school?
Nice. Magpul furniture alone is enough to ruin an AK for me.
You should put the other stock back on though. That just looks wrong on an SBR.
yeah...i'm torn between the skeleton and the one which is currently installed. While the Plastic one is more comfortable, the skeleton just looks cooler.
Here is one with skeleton without magpul fuckery and with booster. (which is totally unnecessary for reliability but is more comfortable for the shooter to the left or right)
My collection (sorry, no pic):
>Savage 10T .308 in a tactical stock, w/ SWFA 12x scope and Atlas bipod. It's my precision rifle.
>Gucci'd out AR (main SHTF rifle)
>Basic bitch A2 clone (backup in case of AWB)
>Beretta M9 (home defense)
>Ruger LCR .38 Special
>Sauer and Sohn 38H (inherited from deceased grandfather)
Should I get rid of anything?
For me, my current (soon to be) setup:
Browning Hi Power
Remington Model 11 (American made Browning Hi Power)
and a XM177 build (I have also considered a FAL, norinco MAK90 and CETME C308)
>What guns would you own if you were limiting yourself to a utilitarian collection?
Silencerco Maxim 9 (Basically a suppressed, fixed barreled - more accurate, fixed front slide, Glock 17.)
Kel-Tec KSG-NR (possible to SBS down to 13.5", 12 gauge. Federal Flitecontrol in one tube, Winchester BRI sabot slugs in the other. Hopefully they make an SBS KS7.)
Desert Tech MDR (Caliber conversions, bullpup, ability to SBR)
Desert Tech SRS-A2 (Caliber conversions - specifically using .300 Win Mag/338 Lapua; bolt action bullpup.)
LMT MWS (AR-10, barrel change system).
A souped up, lightweight, fine tuned, lowest that I can get recoiling AR-15.
A .50 BMG of some type. I'm currently working on getting one, have quite a bit saved up - haven't decided yet. Steyr HS 50-M1, Serbu BFG-50A, Desert Tech HTI, etc.
S&W Shield for CCW. I might look into the S&W Bodyguard.
-A handgun for ease of keeping on person
-A semi auto rifle or carbine
-A bolt action or shotgun
That’s really it.
Agreed. Personally i think rimfire is not important. SHTF will happen btw, just not in the next 30-50 years.
Glock 19 isn't cool or aesthetic. Also, if you do any kind of comp you will be at a disadvantage.
>all of that shit
>utilitarian
nigga that is just a gun collection.
>that BLACKED mag
You should put the mag alone on a sofa and prop all the scary looking guns up just behind it.
Summer carry handgun (stainless single stack or snubby).
Winter carry/service hangun (double stack; compact or full size).
Any rifle in a rifle caliber (from bolt action .338 to AR15 to lever action .30-.30; doesnt matter) and any shotgun (doesnt matter either).
You could even have only a rifle and a compact to medium sized handgun and be fine.
kek i'll consider it!
My collection, poor fag edition mostly because desu I just started buying last year. Although I'm poor, I'm trying to just get the necessities.
DPMS AR in 5.56
Marlin 60 in 22Lr
RAC in 9mm (may be replacing it with a G19 soon)
CZP09 in 9mm (the 20rnd mags are amazing )
S&W Mod 36
H&R Pardner 12G (Best shotgun I've ever shot and it was only 60 bucks)
Ruger Scout in 5.56 (got the shit tier monstrum scope on Amazon just to have something until I invest in a decent scope )
Thinking of buying my friends GP100 and that's pretty much it for me. I rather just buy ammo and better furniture down the line.
AR15 and a Glock. It's the lamest answer, but the most correct. You could mix it up and get an AK and an M9 or a FAL and a 686, but bottom line, all you need is a concealable handgun and a combat rifle.
No full-size handgun
For 5 guns, in order:
>Glock 19/any similar 9mm pistol
Whether you like 9mm or not, it's a more common round and it will be much easier to find magazines and different kinds of rounds. Glock 19 has the most aftermarket support and a proven record, but there are other options out these days.
>AR-15 in 5.56
Self-explanatory. Everyone has one, plenty of ammo and mags to go around, but if you want to train and not spend as much money,
>.22 AR conversion kit
Drop-in bolt and magazine kit that lets you get more practice for cheap. You can also go squirrel and rabbit hunting.
>7.62 NATO bolt action
Ideally, something that has backup irons but is still lightweight and can take a scope. Relatively cheap ammo, something you can hunt with.
>Pistol Caliber Carbine
Ideally something that can take your pistol's magazines, but the CZ Scorpion, Sig MPX, B&T GHM-9, and any MP5 clone, are probably the best in class and don't take pistol mags. If you want to go cheaper you can get a new upper and a conversion kit for your AR. Stern Defense offers kits that allow you to use Glock magazines and keep your standard buffer.
>AK in 7.62×39
If you really need a 6th gun, probably go with a 7.62×39 AK. It has pretty much the same traits as the AR-15 but isn't quite as common and the aftermarket support, although good, still can't match the AR's. Mags and ammo are cheap though, and with a good barrel actually shoots quite accurately. Just be aware that any AK worth having these days is going to cost a little more than you'd like, unless the new PSA AK turns out good.
Really, your 6th gun could also just be a different upper for your AR, or whatever you want.
As usual, no one is asking the important question
>what are your usage cases
That said, the most generic utilitarian collection I can think of is
>ar-15 w/ 9mm and .22 uppers, general fighting rifle that doubles as a pcc and a varmint gun
>compact handgun in the configuration of your choice, self explanatory
>single shot or double barrel 20ga, general purpose hunting weapon. 20ga is a little pricier than 12, but also weighs less
>magnum caliber rifle, long range/large game hunting that's outside the capability of the ar or shotgun
>magnum caliber revolver, admittedly I don't have a specific use in mind for this. Just seems like it'd be nice to have the option to put some serious hurt on something in a compact package
Needs a full size handgun and bolt action rifle
>intermediate caliber rifle of reputable make and 30 round magazines
>CC pistol of reputable make
>long barreled 12g 2.75-3.5" shell hunting shotgun of good make
>hunting rifle in large rifle caliber of good make bonus points for a true precision rifle and knowing how to use it
>22lr rifle
shotgun is more important than full sized pistol. anyone who says otherwise is stuck with 25y indoor ranges in a city
If I could only have a "utilitarian" collection, I'd just have an AR15 in 5.56 and a 9mm pistol.
5 guns bread?
>Semi auto rifle in common caliber:
KAC SR-15 MOD 2 MLOK 14.5 pinned to 16": Leupold DEVO, Leupold LCO, Elzetta cqb, B.E. Meyer's MAWL, KAC shorty cdc
>Long range rifle
Barrett MRAD in .300WM, Leupold MK8, Steiner OTAL, Stiener SPIR, KAC bipod, Surefire 7.62 RC2 can
>Hunting
Ruger Red Label 20ga
>Home Defense
Glock 19: 6 second mount, aimpoint acro, Steiner ir compatible wl
>Carry
Ruger LCR 9mm: CT laser
Would substitute the LR gun for something like a MM23e or a duplicate SR-15 if you're an urban cuck desu.
Should include at least 1 BP
>utilitarian
>bp
>using a gun slot on a nongun
Are you retarded? There's a reason why I dont have a 22lr on my list and that's because air rifles exist.
>tfw urban cuck with no ranges over 100 yards
Duplicate SR-15 it is
Why would they amend an IRC code to make semi autos NFA? did the sponsor of this bill confuse a tax law and the FOPA?
Easily cast new bullets
>cool or aesthetic
>competition
do you know what utilitarian means?
They do, I personally regret selling my glock 19.
depends on what you want them for but here's a short list devoid of all fun considerations.
>carry/home defense
some 9mm double stack, ie glock 19
>hunting
12 gauge with a couple barrels and chokes, ie mossberg 500
>tyranny
16" midlength AR in 5.56, ie PSA kit and anderson lower
if you want to fill up all 5- slots, add some combination of:
>.22lr rifle, ie 10/22 or model 60 (hunting)
>a smaller pistol, ie lcp or lcr (carry)
>bolt action .30 caliber rifle (hunting)
/thread
I'm glad we have this thread. I get, guns are cool and all I love me shooting some Fully auto machine guns here and there but ultimately, they're tools used to kill , defend yourself and put food on the table. You can buy the most Gucci equipment out there and spend thousands of dollars in gear and collectibles but what's the fucking point if it serves no purpose and you're not proficient at it.
>air rifles
>air
>just buy a fucking nerf gun at this point.
theres a reason why 22LR are relevant and popular after hundred years.
You have a solid set up there user, I wouldnt get a rid of anything.
I can see the appeal of 50BMG are useful, sometimes you gotta fire engine blocks of pig cars and assert your dominance. Me and the wife are currently also saving for one.
and there's a reason the PCP airguns exploded when the 22 dried up for 8 years.
I have similar thinking. I care more about quality than quantity. I have almost all of the guns that I could possibly want.
>AR-15 build (For general close to mid-range work)
>AR-10 build (For harder hitting work, especially good for mid to long range. I could also use this to hunt if I absolutely had to)
>M&P 9 M2.0 (Basic bitch 9mm)
>FNX-45 (Muh .45 AARP)
If I absolutely had to I could get a basic Mossberg 12 gauge, but I honestly do not see myself using it much. A revolver would be neat too, but I don't see much use for one compared to everything that I already own. I'm also considering an underfolder AK just to have so I could utilize 7.62x39mm and the compactness could be good as a muh truck gun.
>why would anyone want a supressed nfa excluded non gun with more energy than a 22lr with near zero ammo costs?
T. Brainlet
OP what does utilitarian mean to you specifically and what environment (physical or political) are you looking to be best suited for?
I am not an AR fanboi, but a 20+in AR could replace the need for a bolt gun alongside your semi-auto rifle. Your fullsize nightstand HD pistol could be your CCW. Someone mentioned it already in here, but shotguns aren't necessary unless you plan on bird hunting. A slingshot could replace your .22lr gun.
IMHO a good semi-auto rifle with a barrel length capable of optimal ballistics and a full size pistol works for bare bones utilitarian needs.
If we aren't talking barebones.
>semi auto rifle
>fullsize handgun in common cartridge
>bolt action in a common caliber or same caliber as semi auto boi
>maybe a PCC instead of semi auto rifle
>something in 22lr be it pistol with at least a 4inch barrel or a rifle
>revolver in 357mag or greater that isn't a snubbie
Well, legally it'd be a Garand,a Colt Python and really that'd be about it as far as it goes.
My current collection is:
>Gucci AR
>Old ass AK
>M1A
>M1903
>Luger
>1911
>Gucci 1911
>M79
What should be my SHTF loadout?
I'd say you're fine with everything you own.
In order of importance.
#1: A good concealable pistol for CCW. It can be 'high capacity' or low capacity, big or small, whatever you want so long as you can conceal it and it's at least .380 ACP or up in caliber.
#2: A 12 gauge pump action shotgun. No firearm is more versatile than this. Birdshot for small game, buckshot for medium sized game, and slugs for bears/etc. Good up to 50 yards, and most people will never need to shoot beyond that anyways.
#3: A combat rifle. An AR15, an AKM, a Mini rifle, or whatever else you want so long as it takes detachable magazines and is chambered for at least an intermediate rifle caliber or larger.
#4: A .22lr rifle. Good cheap plinking for fun. Its low recoil and noise make it perfect for teaching new shooters.
I think these four times of firearms would cover pretty much all bases.
Pretty much this, assuming they would only be utilized for self defense. If you were to add hunting to that list, I’d throw in a full size 12 gauge as well.
Out of my collection, the only 2 that get real range time are my AR and m&p shield, seeing as they would be the weapons I’d use in pretty much any self defense scenario, therefore the weapons I want to be the most comfortable/proficient with.
>.223
>utilitarian
weaksauce caliber that trades effective range and kinetic energy for controllable recoil and weight, like someone who only shoots semi auto will go through that much ammo, or have that hard of a time with recoil if they are not a woman or child. 308 is the minimum. it's shit hitting the fan, human targets will use vehicular cover and anything edible would be either demolished by .223 or run a mile after being shot half an inch too far to the left.
Some semi-auto 308 you consider reliable with scope on a QD mount and real, fixed iron sights. rails bend, hinges break. General use gun you pass on to your kids. you don't need a 20" barrel, 16" is legitimately fine for 308 as nobody shoots past 700-800 yards in real life. you should have it ready for a suppressor.
Suppressed .22lr pistol for poaching should be accurate enough to hit a squrrel in the head with some skills. you don't want to waste that meat. Suppressors are seriously useful. Consider getting one legal one, and one illegal one the feds don't know about.
Any handgun you can conceal as long as it isn't some retarded "accurized" 1911/match grade CZ that needs constant cleaning and lubrication to not jam and even then still won't feed some ammo
another user here, if like me, after you get all you feel are your practical needs and are proficient knowing them like the back of your hand youll get bored and start to appreciate historical/classics/unique/less than practical guns.
I got into handloading first as a practical thing for better and match ammunition cheap and it brought me into really liking surplus, long range, and hunting (to test bullets on).
Imo, if youre here, youre a collector and someone who appreciates details and youre going to get there eventually. Someone who buys guns just for shtf wouldnt care to the same level of things we do
in argument for a shotgun, someone with one is going to rack up kills on squirrels, rabits, birds, other varmints a lot quicker than someone with an ar15 and slingshot
75 grain 5.56x45 TAP is the most utilitarian load in existence with adequate penetration for below elk sized game and great killing ability on man
>kinetic energy kills
Just shoot them with a bullet that isnt 193 or 855
(1) Semi auto handgun in a centerfire calibre
(2) Semi auto rimfire handgun
(3) Semi auto intermediate rifle
(4) Semi auto rimfire rifle
(4) Bolt action centerfire rifle
(6) Shotgun
(7) Battle rifle
I don't believe that anyone that owns less than 7 guns us taking firearms ownership seriously.
Which rifle is more utilitarian if ar-15’s are outlawed: mini-14 or .308 ar?
I'm inclined to the .308 semi-auto over the mini-14 but that's really a .308 vs 5.56 question. If they're both semi-auto take 20-30 round mags and yours is reliable, it's just the question of which ammo you prefer.
this but id lean ar10 because ive seen too many picky mini 14
Semiauto rifle in intermediate cartridge
A pistol of some sort in a viable caliber
A 22
Would be about as barebones as I would go
I’m also leaning towards a dons pattern ar 10 but they require much more cleaning than the mini. The mini will also be easiest to train women and children to use. The mini14 is also less picky with handloads than the ar10
Not reflective of my ownership, but:
>Browning SA-22, stainless
>Winchester model 70 new model w/ reintroduced claw extractor, stainless, .30-06
>Gov’t size 1911 OR HK USP w/ LEM-Match hybrid trigger, either option in stainless, .45 acp
>Browning Double Auto 12gauge OR Benelli Ethos 20 gauge
>Ruger Mini-14, stainless, new production tapered barrel OR semi auto Colt 711 clone
-OPTIONAL 6th GUN-
>S&W model 60 w/ 3in barrel (non-underlug barrel)
fuck you
>stainless finishes
>minimal and utilitarian
pick one
get with the times man
Gonna give a no to everything pic related
*dpms pattern
1) a mk12 with a nice scope and decent parts
>for something useful outside of mom's basement
2) a mk18 with ir illuminator/laser
>for truckin and night shit
bonus) pvs-14 plus accessories
>to own the night with
3) a ccw handgun, glock is preferable due to abundance of people who also have glocks (also why you needed to go AR)
>because in trying times such as these you need something everyday to get you home
4) a Chiappa 22lr Little Badger
>for hunting and surviving in the woods like a fucking psycho
5) a pump action shotgun in 12ga
>for scaring future Nobel Prize winning scientists away from your house in the middle of the night
6) a 20ga pump shotgun loaded with birdshot, "Uhte model"
>for your kid, or special lady and her boyfriend to be able to have something they can handle for HD when you are at work
optional) Milsurp(s)
>to let you have that one or ones gun(s) you have always dreamt of having for fun
Are you literally a whale?
1. Pump Action 12 Gauge Shotgun. Old Rem 870 for me but you pick whatever fits you best. If your uses are more hunting, don't overlook a SxS.
2. Galil in .308
I don't want to put the research into an AR10 build and by all accounts this gun does everything you'd need a full size rifle to do.
3. CZ 455
If I'm going to get a 22, it's gonna be the best value for the money.
4 & 5
handgun and PCC, matched. I'd probably spring for the Beretta and storm, though the most comfy handgun I've shot was an XD in .45 it just fit. If there was a PCC that could share mags I'd grab that.
Mossberg 930
Remington 783
Marlin 60
You dont need more than that
Is the lower ar a 14.5 or is it an sbr
>12g shotgun
>.308 semi or bolt gun
>semi in 5.56 or 7.62x39
>9mm or .45 handgun
Pretty much all you’d ever need, maybe add a .22 rifle to that list but a shotgun works fine for small game.
Definitely needs that .22
If I had to choose between a .22lr rifle, or a 12 gauge, I think I'd picked the 12 gauge. A shotgun is more versatile than a .22lr rifle in my opinion. With a shotgun you can hunt small, medium, or large game. With a .22lr rifle you're pretty much stuck with just small game hunting.
This, shotguns are grossly underrated hunting tools in some areas
1) AR
2) Glock 40S&W with 9mm conversion barrel
3) Kel-Tec CP33
4) Whatever carbine version of the CP33 they come out with.
5) Something in 308
6) Vepr 12
>Concealed Carry: Glock 19
>Rimfire Pistol: Ruger MKIV
>Shotgun: Mossberg 590A1
>Rimfire Rifle: Ruger 10/22
>Home Defense: DD MK18 SBR
>General Purpose: KAC SR-15 14.5”
Rate
Probably want a full-powered rifle of some sort (.308, 30-06, etc). Otherwise, the list is fine enough.
yeah, but also consider that .22lr is cheaper and way lighter than shotgun shells with a lot less recoil. don't get me wrong, I'd also pick the shotgun, but .22's aren't that much more expensive and are really damned handy to have around like a homestead or farm where you deal with varmints breaking in and fucking shit up all the time.
also if you have a wife or kids, they can all handle a .22 a lot better than a shotgun.
Yeah that my be true, but dont underestimate the usefulness of #4 steel shot w/full choke for varmit control
This. I have nothing against 22lr rifles. But if I could only have one for whatever reason I'd go with the 12 gauge.
Bare minimum functional collection needs at least four guns. A semi-auto intermediate cartridge rifle and full size handgun are highly recommended but not necessary.
any full power cartridge rifle
any 12ga pump
any semi auto 22lr rifle
any suitable pistol for a CCW
>That shotgun
>That revolver
>Sks
Are you me?
No lol, because I don't own any of those three anymore unless you mean the sxs
This is literally what I do. I've consolidated my arsenal to the following:
Heavy caliber rifle
>AR10
Intermediate caliber rifle
>AK, also have an AR because it's issued
Small caliber/survival rifle
>GSG5 in .22lr, doubles as a fun plinker and survival rifle
Duty handgun (for civs, something good for OC)
>G22, because issued
Home defense & SHTF handgun
>FNS9
CC handgun
>FNS9c
Deep concealment handgun
>Bodyguard 380
Shotgun for the fuck of it
>Mossberg 500TD
I have a few miscellaneous guns that I just like, or that are backups for one of those roles. For example no arsenal is complete without an SKS. Mosins and Makarovs are fun to shoot. Revolvers are also neat so I got an LCR. Then there's a shit ton of things I still need to sell. All of which once fit one of the above roles but I just chose a different option at some point.
