Hazardous Conditions and Materials

During your long hours at work, or in the military, have you been exposed to dangerous materials? Did you have any negative health effects from it?

>asbestos
>nerve agents
>radioactive materials
>chemical engineering
>nerve gas or burn pits

Anything goes, work story time

No, I went to college

Art degree?

Nailed it

Nerve Gas overseas twice (thank god for atropine)
Anthrax while doing VIP protective work
Plutonium while cleaning up IRAQ (this one probably fucked me up the most)
And some assorted chemical burns from various drug raids

Life as a SEAL is tough but the work we do is critical. I can answer questions for a little bit before my next assignment

Are you a fucking tv lawyer? Am I eligible for compensation?

use to do volunteer work on an aircraft carrier museum near me. When we were modifying a ward room for a volunteer training room, we pulled out the walls. Those fucking ships were filled with asbestos as an insulator before they realised that it was bad for you. Never volunteered for helping with ship restoration again for me, I'll stick to doing aircraft.

Damn that is pretty wicked. I see you post a lot and it seems that you are the only SEAL to post here. Thank you for all that you do for us

Call the Jewenstein and Sheckleburg Legal team now!

USS Midway?

Fuck. Where the hell did you get exposed to nerve gas

had to ditch my X-37 over Antarctica and got covered in hydrazine and penguin shit

No problem civilian, it is my honor

Classified. But it was in the middle eastern area of the globe. Luckily it had degraded over time but it was pretty potent and it killed our dog.

>"Civilian"
Did you retrieve the VX gas with Sean connery too?

Holy shit that is fucking cool I knew this place was cooler than Reddit

>I say we roll em in there and nerve gas the whole fucking nest
Me speaking on what to do about faggots and people who believe faggots lying

Not sure what a movie star has to do with my services overseas but ok

Please disregard this post as this is not me

Yeah reddit is a good place to start out on the web but this place is for more hardcore users. I appreciate your enthusiasm though civilian.

Yeah people that lie on the internet are a problem and people like need to be removed but to gas someone? Gonna need a little less edge there kiddo

Was it a plutonium core or was it plutonium dust?
That dust is pretty insidious

stop pretending to be me you colossal faggot

Your response proves nerve gas is the only solution

Haha tell em partner! College is a scam, real men like us get paid by the hour to breathe in poison and break our backs

Can't say civilian but yeah I'm fairly irradiated and can actually set off geiger counters so yeah there are probably some long term problems.

Wholesale genocide is wrong and I will always fight against it. I get that you are trying to fit in here but dial it down a bit kiddo

Hexavalent chromium, nitric, sulfuric, and hydrofluric acids, welding fumes from galvanized to stainless and everything in between, Kolene, solvents, dust, molten metal, grease, hydraulic oil... There's probably more shit.

>adverse health effects

None so far. I don't work like a fuckin redneck though and I'm in a union, so we get proper safety shit.

>but but...

Shut up kids. I've been doing this for 25 years.

I was working in a scrapyard, so I guess so

I work with explosives, high voltage/pulsed power, class IV lasers, and crygens on a daily basis.

I love my job,

Every time you post I respect you more and more
Thanks for contributing to the board

silica dust

I drilled through old asbestos tile flooring to get a return ran down into a basement. It kicked up quite a bit of dust from just a little hole saw.

There's alot of fucken DU in Iraq, because 'Merica.
The only place I would imagine Iraq having PU would be a research reactor, and even then probably not that much.

I don't care what anyone says, that DU sucks. Handling the rounds themselves is extremely hazardous too because of all the dust that gets set loose

Maybe a few decades from now, the truth about the Iraqi WMD program will be released to the public

Totally, as you said the dust is a huge issue. Because you have both the aspects of heavy metal poisoning and radiation. It's only an Alpha emitter, but that doesnt matter when you breath in the dust.

Nobody said anything about genocide just nerve gas for the idiots

Nothing too exciting, honestly.
>Possible asbestos exposure from fucked up pipe insulation over the course of 3 years
>plenty of exposure to JP-5/hydraulic fluid
Hands are fucked, and the skin immediately starts wrinkling and creasing if I come into contact with any sort of synthetic oil. They are also constantly dry scaly. Basically eczema.
>sprayed in the face with concentrated floor stripper
Shit was disgusting, it was nick-named 'baby poop' for a reason. Thankfully didn't get into my eyes.

Fuck aircraft maint.

>hexavalent chromium
A buddy of mine inhaled a shitton of that. Gonna have to wait 20 more years before you see it start fucking up your lungs.

Same. Sand blasted a whole 18 wheeler trailer with nothing but my elbow covering my face and some saftey goggles cuz that's what my boss was doing and said it was ok. Hope I'm okay lol

Maybe?

I machine and refurbish pipeline fittings (slip blinds, flanges).

Congealed crude oil, probably all sorts of pump station/derrick chems. Lord knows what else from all the petrochems we part out to.

's neat. Can't wait to trade this for dealing with horse shit all day, tho.

probably gender studies

>fairly irradiated and I will set off geigers

Jesus. Fucking. Christ.

Are there any stories you can tell us of mentioned events? Im most interested by plutonium after that statement.

Also curious how the gas got the dog

He's a fucking troll and just after attention.
Put him in your filter like the rest of us.

Did both trash and shit burn pits as well.

Incoming....

great stories, thanks

Also mine.

Long story short IRAQ did actually have a nuclear program (similar to Iran's but much less sophisticated) They didn't understand anything about fission or fusion and basically thought that plutonium+explosive=Nuke.

They didn't do any real damage but when they tried to dispose of the evidence it flooded that stupid mine with atomized radioactive material.

Problem is when it gets in your lungs it is there forever. Even weakly radioactive stuff is horrible when it is in your lungs

nice bullshit lies. plutonium in your lungs giving you cancer or radioactive damage isnt a huge concern. its an extremely toxic material and coming into direct skin contact with even micrograms of it is deadly. you thought uranium hexaflouride was bad, try plutonium chemistry... that stuff isn't even found in nature.

Sorry, I saved your story once before on a thread like this. Found it interesting

AIDS blood

Not even joking.

Story nigger

Basedbean poisoning

eating the k-pills ?

Worked as a geotech/environmental driller for a company with shit safety.
>air odex drilling in dry rock so I inhaled a shit ton of silica dust
>drilled “clean” sites that we later found out had some insane hydrocarbon and benzene levels
>drilled into an abandoned creosote pit the size of a fuckin football field used for dipping railroad ties
>ripped my tyvek suit on an auger and got nasty chemical burns from some black gooey shit I thought was coal tar, client refused to tell us what it was

Throw in diesel fumes, welding galvanized steel and god knows what other horrible things I drilled into and I’m probably gonna fucking die by the time I’m 30

Continued....

>took a contract job repairing a 1950s era Dutch freighter used as an accommodation vessel
>8hr shifts in a normally sealed void below the waterline
>low oxygen levels and about 8,000 litres of diesel fuel, seawater and sludge from leaking wastewater pipes
>void is dark, cold and about 18” high
>sometimes the temperature would change and the diesel fumes would get so strong even my respirator couldn’t cope
>start to taste fuel, by the time I crawled to the exit which was a port the size of a steering wheel I’d feel like I was hammered drunk

Jesus chrst dude

Try suing the company for negligence
