Right now, it seems to be what India is claiming is that both aircraft were shot down, the MiG and the F-16. The F-16 crashed in Pakistan territory, so there won't be photos of a wreckage if this is true. The MiG obviously crashed in Pakistan as well since the pilot was captured. The Indians do have pictures of amraam wreckage, but it probably just missed and flew into India.
You can say Indian sources aren't credible, but how credible are Pakistani sources? I doubt we'll ever know for sure what happened. These kind of stories tend not to get revisited because most people don't care about the specifics of air combat.
They're quoting the Indians who are saying both jets were shot down, which is a real bitch when you think about it. It's so frustrating taking down an opponent knowing in a few seconds you're probably going down too. Can we please get back to dogfights?
