The fastest way out of MCRD is through it. Don’t fuck up, don’t get injured, don’t be a bitch. Make it to SOI and life gets a lot easier.

>How old is too old to be infantry I turn 26 this year and I'm doing an honours year (Medical Research).
I doubt I'm going to get any decent job out of it and I know if I wait any longer to enlist I'll be too old. I live in upside down land; there's not really any reason to join anymore is there; chance I'll deployed are minimal aren't they?
Cant let the thread die. To answer your question with no on-going world war you're probably not going to see combat. But if you still enlist enjoy painting rocks.
Ryder Perry
Don't go infantry unless you are capable and ready to go Ranger. Trust me dude, infantry without a war is just going to be a miserable 4 years, and you'll come out as that guy that shit talks the military every day
John Torres
What are the chances of getting a comission in a combat arms branch in the marine corps being a recent graduate? I've read that officers that went the NROTC path have a greater chance of getting combat arms, and OCS right out of college or uni get the scraps so to speak.
Go Infantry if you want. A war is definitely coming up soon. We don’t just don’t if it’ll be Venezaula, Iran, or China
Matthew Bennett
I would like to remind you guys that Coast Guard = Best Branch, and only reason people hate us is because they ain't us. Enjoy your depression aids out there in the army dudes.
Austin Jones
Is there anyone on this board who has severed more than 5 years?
Is there anyone on this board who has served more than 10 years?
Can you guys share your experience?
Brody Murphy
Coast Guard doesn’t have Infantry, and they’re SOF doesn’t do anything
Joshua Diaz
Infantry are glorified janitors and SOF that are still alive are drug addicted sacks of ptsd
Dylan Brown
You're retarded OP
The magic word at MEPS is "No"
Camden Ward
>infantry >glorified janitors Maybe in peacetime, but when SHTF you definitely want a 0311 or an Airborne 11B On your side. Maybe more people would join the Coast guard if they had a Infantry MOS that guarded beaches from Amphibious Invasion, hence ‘coast guard’
Jordan Watson
Why would you want to be infantry even during war time? Yeah guard this tower for 9 hours, then the next day walk to this village and don't get blown up. Sounds so cool. We definitely need infantry sure, but the jannies can have fun doing all that stuff.
Benjamin Murphy
I did 20 years in US Army aviation. Learned a bunch, worked with really cool people, and spent almost 6 years outside the US.
There were plenty of shitty days and shitty people.
I would do it again.
Isaiah Evans
What aircraft?
Aiden Martinez
I was a structural repairer (68G, 15G, then 15K), so I got to work on everything.
Luke Reed
Were you enlisted? What was your final rank? Are you retired or are you doing anything cool now?
I was enlisted, and retired as a SFC. Now I live in a motorhome and do what I want. I finished my BS in Business after retirement. I'm considering getting a CDL and working as a truck driver for 10 years to save more money before retiring again by 55 or so, but nothing solid yet.
I decided not to stay in aviation maintenance because I didn't want to be an old mechanic. Others who retired around the same time stayed in maintenance, some raise goats or do similar farming stuff, one is a bush pilot, and plenty of others are doing regular jobs.
Jaxon James
This is a stupid question, but are there any doctors or lawyers on here? I got a question. Hypothetically, let’s say >a 13 year old attempts suicide >no scars, no injuries >parents drive him to hospital >gets there, and sits on bed for a few hours >doctor comes in, and teenager voluntarily decides to be Hospitalized >stays in for a few days >after he gets out, goes to behavioral health crisis service center >talks to people there, they take his information and then leaves Would this show on a background check? I know they only check Criminal Records but would this show on a FBI level background check, like the ones they do at MEPS?
If a judge was never involved and they never fingerprinted you for any related reason you're good.
Brayden Scott
So if I was fingerprinted, I’m fucked? I don’t remember being fingerprinted but it was so damn long ago
Jose Stewart
How would you compare Army Aviation to NavAir and AF? Are you guys similar or completely different?
Asher Johnson
350F here.
Navy has NCIS for counter intel.
AF has OSI.
Usmc and army have specific mos for it.
Owen Bailey
When you go SOF (like Raiders or Rangers) do you have to get a Secret or a top Secret? Also, what do they check when you go through a Secret? Do they only pull financial records, or do they go after medical too?
Luis Smith
I don't know enough about the other services to offer a great comparison. One of the guys I worked with was prior service Navy, and a friend got out of the Army and went into the Air Force. I think any differences are not so much about the job, but the traditions and quality of life that each service has.
Luke Reed
Nobody hates you guys
Shit, nobody even really thinks about you guys
You’re just boat cops

You have zero chance of getting into CI without prior exp. There are zero entry level positions, and mid level is very fucking rare in agencies.
That being said, on ocassion, contracting companies will hire "entry level" with 2-5 yrs exp in osint or humint who have done CI related stuff.
Honestly, if you have any intel background and at least know what CI shit looks like and how it all works, you can fake it til you make it in the intel world.
David Myers
>he’s 11b >so he’s infantry >in the US military >he does it for free >he takes his “job” very seriously

Coast Guard is basically the sheltered momma's boy compared to Big Chad Navy. The only reason we don't own your ass is because you're not worth the hassle during peacetime. We love you, but as a nephew, not as a brother.
Obviously yes or I wouldn't ask. Trespassing, burglary, petty larceny, etc all around age 13-16.
Nathaniel Cook
Any weekend warriors that can offer advice?
I've really been thinking about joining the Army Reserve. I think the structure and experience from military training would be great for my directionless ass, and the money to go through school to learn something new is alluring. I'm a very okay mechanic, and I dont want do do brakes, front ends, and oil changes for the rest of my life. An MOS where I get to handle cool army equipment or ordnance and shoot some M16s and chuck grenades once in awhile is all I'm looking for. I've got no problem playing GI Joe throughout the year. 23, think I got an 80 on a mock ASVAB I took some time back, capable of a 300 APFT, but also an undisciplined degenerate.
Where should I start? And if I find a recruiter interested in signing me up, how do I know if he's bullshitting me or not?
Why do you want Reserves? What is so exciting at home that you want to stay there most of the time? That said, I've heard the Army Reserves have some pretty good incentives right now.
Anything that counts will be in your contract. Your recruiter can't bullshit that.
What’s the best civilian job to do while in the Guard? Are there any companies that give preference to nasty girls?
Blake Sullivan
I've got no problem with my location, but the reserves are appealing because of the time I'd have to go to school. I wouldn't be opposed to moving somewhere else.
Isaac Ramirez
As long as they aren't felonies jusr talk to your recruiter and you'll be fine. I had a cerfew and an animal cruelty charge and it wasnt a problem.
Brody Fisher
All I know is that anything violent or drug related is a hard rejection
James King
350f here. CW3 reserves, GS12 security manager.
If you dont have a job to pay the bills, reserves is not the way to go.
What exactly do you want to do, mil job/civ job? Where do you want to end up in life career wise?
Blake Flores
I think you should both kys

Get a PPL really fast, find a Guard unit with open slots, then get an age waiver as long as your body isn't broke too much. I knew a 30 year old in my UPT class who was PR guard.

I want to join the Navy as an officer. While talking to a recruiter I mentioned I take adderall for ADD, but will be off the meds once I graduate in May. He told me I would have to be off the meds for a whole year until I can apply. I asked if there was any way around this and he said he shouldn't tell me this but as long as the meds don't come up on my drug test then the Navy will never know.
Here's where things get tricky. On the MEPS prelim sheet it says the Navy will have access to all of my school documents which will include my academic accommodations and ADD diagnosis. If they look at this and put 2 and 2 together I don't think it will be possible to hide my adderall use.
I'm prepared to wait out the year and work, but if anyone has any other advice I'd appreciate it.
Michael Russell
Wait they have your school records? Is this new?? I always thought they just wanted to see your diploma and that’s it
Thomas James
350F here.
Wait the year since you seem to have a lot of records.
If you didnt have all that documentation, i would have recommended the same thing as the recruiter.
Lastly, are you sure you can handle shit without the meds? You havnt been off them very long.
Samuel Gutierrez
>l Authorize release of records and information relating to grades, performance, individual education plans, and disciplinary proceedings. Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) USMEPCOM/DoDMERB is authorized to receive all my education/disciplinary records for evaluation of my acceptability for Service in the Armed Forces
Pretty sure the individual education plans will show I received accommodations and along with that my ADD diagnosis
Isaiah Scott
Not him, but investigators CAN pull school records. WILL they? Nowadays with all the contractor investigators actually doing investigations correctly, best not to risk it, especially when user has apparentky very obvious records of medication use.
Matthew Perez
Is this for enlisted too? What if you don’t need a secret clearance?
David Hall
I'm sure I can handle things. I've taken extended breaks and still got shit done. More importantly I've learned about myself and how I learn/perform best even without meds.
Matthew Watson
It's from DD Form 2807-2, the MEPS Prelim Assessment. You will fill this out if you go to MEPS
Eli Hall
Shit so if I got USMC enlisted, and I go for a MOS that doesn’t require a security clearance, they will still pull my school records?
Josiah Hernandez
I can't say they will, but they will have the ability to.
Justin Gomez
I like tanks should I join the army to drive tanks? You are not allowed to own a tank in my country so the army is the only way to drive tanks should I do it?
Cooper Cox
350F here
Opm investigations are standard. Every agency and gov affiliated contracting company uses SF85 and SF86 forms for investigations. If an OPM investigator doesnt handle your case, a opm certified contractor will. The only ones that handle their own shit is DoJ(sort of) and CIA (sort of).
A T3(secret level) is the MINIMUM level of investigation a service member will go through.
Let me be very clear, if your job does not require a clearance, you will still have a T3 investigation.
Clearance granting(adjudication) is totally separate from the investigation. To keep this as simple as i can, lets say you were going under a T3, and midway they decide you need a T5(top secret level investigation) instead. The investigator will continue using the same exact SF86 you gave them, but will now start doing some extra footwork to contact refrences and such(its just a more thorough version of the T3 to provide a bit more detail). When the investigation is complete it goes to CAF and the adjudicator essentially pulls up guidelines for what they need to checkmark the box for the type of clearance you are trying to get.
If you think, oh im just gonna be some admin or supply guy, i dont need a clearance. Doesnt matter, the investigation with all the shit they found is on record. If you randomly get orders to a random base that requires a T5 to work there, then they are gonna force your ass toget a T5.
Fyi, no emotion or anything in my explanation. Just trying to put this info out.
Lastly, secrets are nothing. Only way to not get a secret clearance is exessive delinquency in payment. Oh, and no warrants for arrest.
Hunter Perez
Alright so if I go Infantry, I should be fine unless I need a T5? >if you randomly get orders to a T5 base, you have to get one How often does this happen?
Asher Flores
Like i said, random. The one example that comes to mind was this 11b e4 who got assigned to an office on ft meade.
Like i said, do not worry about it. People get unnecessarily scared of the investigations. You really have to be a complete shit head to not get a secret clearance. We give secrets to kids coming straight from africa after they get their citizenship. Those people have an obscene amount of foreign contacts. Secrets are mostly about unpaid and delinquent debt.
Lincoln Morales
>it took him hours to edit html lmao janny r u ok?
Ryder Price
This is a statement of facts.
Also, Bro203 here, taking USMC/Officer questions for the next few hours.
Michael Adams
Do you need a specific degree to go intel O?
Lincoln Collins
All things being equal if you're some sort of hardcore tank otaku then doing a few years as a tanker is both pretty cool and something you'll be glad to have done.
Unless there's some huge opportunity cost (i.e. you would be doing something else really valuable) then go for it. I don't know what country you're in but odds are you can AT LEAST save a bit of money if you're not stupid, you may have other benefits as a former volunteer coming out the other end as well.
Henry James
Not him, but no you dont need a specific degree.
Liam Gutierrez
Just try. If it's a problem it will show up on a background check.
The worst they can say is no.
Gavin Richardson
Maybe I'm retarded but I'm not seeing a super specific job list for the air force like some of you are reference. Didn't really see it in the sticky either, but I'm on a phone.
Also, does anyone have a complete list of what I need for the packet package whatever to go air force commissioned officer? I'm hearing mixed shit. College transcript. Recommendation letters. Birth cert. Etc.
Xavier Nelson
I know 35F is boring as fuck but can you at least use it as a credential for technical writing
