What if the United States Military decided to go full autism and reuse our old and out of date military equipments and put them back into service along with our current survice? Like for example.
>instead of turning old carriers into artificial reefs or museums, we instead take the carriers and update them or utilize them for other service. Like turn an old ww2 carrier into a helicopter carrier or a mobike refuel station for other ships without docking at shipyards to refuel >take all the decomission tanks and recomission them for other usages >take the guns out of the museums and armory and out them in all available combat units so that there is never shortage of guns since we are now using old and new >bring the battleships back from museums abd either replace the guns with sam missiles and rocket launchers or outfit them to be an armored recon battleships >repurpose old cold war jets and ww2 planes and utilise them for recon patrol and other usages
Basically instead of just only using new stuff and throwing old stuff in the garbage bin, we keep the old stuff with us so we can use both old and new and maximize our military weaponry power.
Thanks kinda how the Reserves and National Guard are equipped tho
John Murphy
Why not just sell em?
Justin Reed
Think about it. We would have twoce the firepower and military growth by using all of our military equipment instead of just ditching old stuff and just keep buying new stuff. Russia only has old stuff and china only has new but untested stuff but imagine if the United States with its new stuff is now bringing out the old stuff to tag along and is utilizing all of the military equipment either it be old or new and not leave a military equipment in museum or in the bottom of the sea
Jayden Rodriguez
because the cost of maintaining and retrofitting outdated equipment is inordinate. we tried doing what you suggest with battleships in the 80s. it didn't work all too well. It was really fucking expensive and the results did not justify that expense. It's a really bad fucking idea.
David Davis
1 We are not going to fight China or Russia 2 The largest airforce on earth is the US airforce. The second largest is the US navy. The third is the US army. The US owns more and larger carriers than the entire rest of the world combined. Pushing old shit into service is pointless, when we do not need more power, old equipment would not be effective anyway, and most importantly, the military is already equipped. To put old crap that is useless in service, we would have to take new shit out of service.
Anyway, you're not supposed to post here unless you're 18. Come back in 5 years.

That was the 80s when technology SUCKED but we are now almost in 2020 and our technology has advanced so why not try again or at least find a use for them instead of turning those equipments into fucking reefs or sticking them in museums for fatass mutts to gawk at.

M1D were used in the NG until the mid 90’s There were original M16s with new barrels, burst cams, and hand guards in Korea. Some units I’m aware of still have M60s.

When the US military decides to get rid of old equipment, there’s an official priority list for who gets dibs on it. That runs: 1) Other federal government agencies, including other branches of the military. This, for example, is how the Coast Guard got its hands in the USAF’s small fleet of C-26Js when the Air Force decided they didn’t want them anymore. 2) State, county, and local government agencies. This is how the East Overshoe, Nebraska PD ends up with an M113 with “DARE” painted on the side, and why Officer Joe now has an M16A2 in his patrol car instead of a Remington 870. 3) Friendly foreign governments. The Lithuanian Air Force can’t keep it’s An-26s going another year, you say? No problem - we’ve got some sweet low-mileage factory refurbished C-130Hs ready to roll out of Davis-Monthan on short notice. 4) You. Or, more accurately, the military surplus gear pipeline that ends at Billy Bob’s Army/Navy Store. 5) The scrapyard. Generally then, the scrapyard only gets stuff that either is considered too dangerous to be given or sold to anyone on the priority list, or is so clapped-out that nobody on the list wants it.
As a side note, one of the effects of the post-9/11 age was a tremendous increase in ex-military equipment being snapped up by federal, state, and local security and law enforcement agencies, which is one reason why a lot less of it makes its way to the surplus market and why Army/Navy stores are filled with Rothco and 5.11 products instead of genuine military surplus gear.

Or you could go the Russian road and sell your junk to allies and vassals. That way, you get some foreign cannonfodder that can fight instead of you while still being weaker than you on all level. And they even pay you to be like this, which allow you to equip your forces without being such a burden on the taxpayers.
Levi Hughes
Because all of those things cost money, money that will literally go up in smoke as soon as it gets into an actual engagement. Plus you are underestimating the work (and therefore money) that goes into retro fitting new tech into obsolete assets.
So take you're example of rearming old warships. Can the ships old powerplant powers all of the new SAMs, RADAR, CIWS etc? No? More money. Can the ships old propulsion drives keep up with the newer enemies/allies? No, More money. Does the old ship have the same sized fuel reserves to match the range of the new more efficient vessels. Not to mention the strain on supply lines keeping 5 shitty boats afloat as well as the modes ones. Mow money, mow problems. Etc.
Before you know it you have spent more money than it would have cost to just replace the older vessels that you couldent afford to replace in the first place.
Josiah Collins
And the ships and planes have deteriorated for 20 years. The reason stuff is retired is because it's structurally unsound or so outdated it will cost less to buy new ones.
Jayden Sanders
The army has more guns than it has people to fire them.

Logistics and supply would be a nightmare wouldn't it?

Metal fatigue is very real.

The Iowa Class Battleship is the most up to date battleship the United States Navy has produced.
Evan Jenkins

full autism would be launching every fucking nuke we have and half would have the allah switch thrown, that's were they land wherever allah wills it .....just for shits and giggles
My buddy dated the daughter of the sheriff of a middle-sized town in OK. He was on some combined federal task force for drugs. He was given a bulletproof armored Tahoe, with a complete gun locker system in the back, he had a scar, and M4, MP5, Body Armour, flash bangs, NVG, and just thousands of rounds of ammo. His little town almost got an AMRAP. But, they thought it might look bad to the people in the middle sized down.
We went out into a field a threw a few flash bangs. I just kept thinking this was a giant waste of tax payer money.

Antman's death day either came up or went past us this year

They did this in the Cold War by dumping surplus on foreign allies. No point doing this for your own tier 1 forces, though.
Zachary Jackson
You're an unlearned retard. We recently retired our last frigate, and you know where it went? The fucking reserves.
Isaiah Garcia
Enjoy paying out the ass for all of that.
Jayden Carter
M60s that can't even shoot baby hell yeah!
Aaron Stewart
It's really not.
Kevin Young
Why can't we go back to the ideals of the 2nd Amendment and the government SELL outdated equipment to it's citizens? The Founding Fathers allowed citizens to posses and operate fucking warships with a full battle load, in a world without Jews we have citizen owned M60 MBT's, F-4's, 105mm artillery pieces, and Essux class carriers.
Nicholas Lewis
We have manpower shortages already, who wants to sign up to die on a half century old rig because some dumbass high brass deemed them expendable before they even signed up?

We don't have an equipment shortage. We have a problem getting people to crew it. Getting old, beat to shit equipment that will require complete rebuilds in many cases and even still be mostly useless is not a good strategy for resource usage.
