How many GIs did it kill in Vietnam?
How many GIs did it kill in Vietnam?
Enough to get them to leave.
none
the US Ord. Department killed plenty though
Adopting the M16 was a mistake
*smacks lips*
wrong
The image you posted is of the M16A1, so your question is invalid
>Fielding the XM16E1 was a mistake
FTFY
Not enough
That was the USAs weapon so it literally killed not one single GI. The Vietnamese used mostly mosin nagants and ak47 style assault rifles.
And what do you think should've been used instead?
Not enough for the weapon to be deemed a complete failure like the fudd generals who desperately wanted the M14 back wanted it to be.
you also have to consider the amount of lives saved by switching to a lighter, faster round that they could carry more of and shoot more accurately as well as a lighter more controllable gun
why dont you go complain about the M60, a heavy and cumbersome weapon that had infamous unreliability that wasnt solved during the war
heh @ this post
Not as many as the ping from the m1 garand
Thousands easily, but you will never get a official figure, the blame lies with the military though, they used old surplus power designed for a completely different rifle in the first batches of ammo,
It was actually McNamara who had them fielded without chrome lined bores and chambers. The faster burning ball powder was to make up for the velocity drop as a result of a barrel shorter than 24 inches
The original M16 made blanks in a m16 look reliable, none of those guns worked right.
Captured M16s were used sporadically by the VC and fragging was at one of its highest rates in US military history so I find that hard to believe.
Did you know that GIs took advantage of the ping by throwing empty clips on the ground to get the Germans to put their heads up. So clever.
The original AR-15 and the derivatives for the Air Force worked decent enough
Vastly fewer than the AK-47 considering that the M16 was never captured in large enough quantities by the VC and PAVN to outfit anything more than a fraction of their troops and even then suffered from a lack of ammunition, spare parts, and understanding of how the weapon worked.
Not true at all, m16s were used only during the later half of the war. Mostly it was m14s.
hahaahhaha NO
I think the question should be how many US officers did it kill?
Not enough
>Room temperature IQ teenager GI's took advantage of the ping by throwing empty clips that they wouldnt have been carrying on the ground to trick german soldiers with the sound they made when the soundscof gunfire, tank fire, planes, and explosives are going off.
Sure i bet every US soldier was doing thay, how clever
youre just blatantly wrong

Got a chance to talk to my grandfather about this recently. He served in Vietnam as an Infantryman in the Australian Army where each section commander was issued an XM16E1. He said they never had problems with stoppages despite its reputation because they were forced to clean their weapons every spare chance they got to, whereas the American troops had a lower standard of discipline and training and wouldn't be doing his so often. Don't know if there's any truth to this but it's what he told me.
soldiers called it the "Mattel-16" for a reason
american troops, were originally told them weapon was self cleaning and not issued cleaning kits. This was a lie army ordnance came up with, they were after a congressional investigation disbanded, for this and many many other failures.
