Good AR for the price?

primaryarms.com/spikes-tactical-5.56-rifle-mid-length-14.5-inch

I want a good SHTF and self defense AR which is why I wanted a shorter barrel, but without the need for a tax stamp.

Is this a good value for what I want?

Why do you think that a shorter barrel is better for shtf?

spikes stuff is good so if you have the money go for it. make sure to get ball ammo for it though.

Look around. They should be in the $280 range for a carbine. Pair it with a poverty pony lower for like $50. Whatever you do, don't go with Ceratac, their customer service is fucking awful if you have an issue.

seems ok. spikes used to be very well respected circa 2010-ish. then other companies got in on the game, notably PSA. meanwhile spikes stagnated and fell into the edgy meme category. they still make decent stuff though. $800 is a fair price imo. not spectacular, id rather have a colt 16" 6920 but thats just because the collectibility and name of colt is better than that 1.5" in barrel difference imo.
im a fan of pinned 14.5" ARs, i have like 4 or 5 of them. despite my preference for the 16' colt, they do feel a little bit shorter and lighter, although part of that may just be personal bias.
i would not buy a gun on the basis of shtf. its good to be prepared for sure but in the .0000001% of a catastrophic end of society type deal, you arent going to be fighting zombies or clearing buildings.

>arent going to be fighting zombies
Why must you crush my dreams, Jow Forums?

Ceratac customer service has made some significant improvements since the problems back in October. They have someone there during business hours and live chat on the website. They also upgrade shit for free if the lower quality stuff isn't there when your order was supposed to ship

I guess in general it is easier to handle something that is smaller and lighter. And from what I've seen accuracy won't suffer much with the shorter barrel. What do you think?

Im a little confused by this, what do you mean by they? A barrel?

Get the FN if you want a basic bitch non free float.
Or buy a complete free float upper and lower and put them together. I'd rec a LaRue MBT2 trigger

BCM is good. They have uppers with 14.5" barrels and pinned muzzle devices to meet 16".

Palmetto State is good if you must stay really cheap.

I would say that the shorter barrel is good for me in my case because I also want a gun I can use for home defense, also I live in a more dense area, so less need for long distance accuracy. I also don't plan to customize it unless something breaks so the weld won't be a problem. And finally it would just feel cooler to own :).

Right now I am looking at bravo company uppers, it would be quite an investment though if I want to include the welded flash and a bcg

I was confused by their gas system length. It said that it varies for the carbine choice but there was no option. I want a mid length for sure. What would you say about the quality of one of their uppers?

I am looking at em right now it's a bit more of an investment but I am open to anything. Also I was gonna go with PMA but they hate Illinois lol. I do too though.

I dunno about the length variations.. they just send the one that fits the barrel. They only have 4 length options, pistol, sbr, carbine, and rifle. I got a whole carbine kit, bare bones just to try first build. Everything seems to be decent enough as to machining and everything. The upper is together perfectly. I cant say anything on the quality of it in action because I'm in NJ and cant get the 80% lower. I ordered a Aero Precision x15 stripped lower and was going to build it tonight, but the fucking storm delayed shipment until tomorrow. Very disappoint, bit whatev.

O yeah and they sent me the upgraded M16 cut bolt carrier group free. I ordered the kit late on a Friday night and it was at my house Wednesday, and I got the cheapest shipping

So the gas on yours was carbine then?

A mid fits better on a 16 inch barrel but for other reasons manufacturers spam carbine length.

For your first AR get a 16". This is common knowledge. Nothing wrong with Spikes tactical. They are on the same level as BCM.

Yeah. I just ordered the carbine kit with 0 options, just to see if anything would get upgraded. Like said, but I just ordered the whole kit and that's what came with it. I did add the headspace check and insurance. I didn't want to have to send shit back after it was built if it was off, and figured it'd be good because I didn't know what the quality or quality control would be.

Is PSA actually crap or what? I got one of their pistol lowers and a Daniel Defense upper figuring that the upper is what does most of the work and where most of my money should go. When I posted it I was practically laughed out of the thread, though most of it seemed focused on how poor I must be. What gives?

And by the thread, I meant /arg/

its not crap but its not good either. its like ordering a hamburger off the dollar menu its food it will fill you up. it wont poison you but at the same time your delusional to think its just as good as a bigmac.
is the big mac 100 times better? no. but it is better in tangible ways.

>Is PSA actually crap
No, but /arg/ is.
PSA is basic-tier, not shit-tier.

Arg is pretty retarded it's a bunch of clowns who feel extremely self conscious about their purchase.

There's mostly 2 types in /arg/. The brandfags that bought an expensive gun which is fine, but they feel they have to justify it to themselves by saying everything else is terrible. The other is noguns that just say everything sucks.

how do you like that optic user?

The only thing wrong with Spike's Tactical is the edgy spider logo

It's a no-name brand but it works for now, I have an aimpoint pro coming in the mail soonish. Holds it's zero which is all I care about but I wouldn't trust it to be too reliable if I dropped the rifle or something.

Zombies = No
Commies & Leftist = Fuckin A

Are the FN 15’s Colt tier or worse?

At least it's not a punisher logo
>inb4 spikes already makes a punisher logo one

What's the no name brand and how much? I'm looking for a decent enough cheapo one until I get some funds for something decent

Hammers 1-4x scope, got it off amazon. It was like 60 bucks or so last I checked.

I think the mcdouble add mac sauce is a better value desu. I guess that's a metaphor for practically every purchase I make.

Thanks I'm looking now

What a2 parts kit do i buy? I need the spacer, buffer, buttplate, all of it. And id like the stock to not look like a pos suziki part.

Shit it's etched in the glass, too.. exactly what I was looking for I'm getting it.

Then move to another state.

Hopefully it's good enough for your needs my dude. It's served me well, I'm gonna slap it on my mini-14 once I get my aimpoint pro.

a short barrel doesnt affect accuracy just velocity and blast

Not true. There's a reason Todd Hodnett runs 20" barrels on all his precision rifles instead of the usual 24" to 28".

Spider? You mean the two penis tips rubbing against each other?

What's your budget?

.....
Wrong. People run those lengths for extra velocity at distance. A 11.5" barrel of the same type probably won't shoot any worse than a 20" at 100 yards, but not so much at 400 yards.

I am planning to move just not yet.

Doesn't velocity affect accuracy though?

I don't wanna spend over a grand in total.

PSA is fine dude your thinking was absolutely logical.

This is why I like my Delton lower. Works fine and the logo is not something that looks too try-hard

Not him, but PSA rifle kits. They're dirt cheap.

Was gonna get but I live in illinois.
