Why do people care about lever guns so much?
Why do people care about lever guns so much?

>rimmed cartridges only

Levergat thread?
Historical icon. Just as the Stetson hat. Which is relevant since so many of the surviving photos from the Wild West are showing people wearing mostly other types of hat.
t. 400lb sweatpants at walmart with stetson
it's about as american as the single action army, apple pie, and independence day
also it's fun
BAN ASSAULT LEVER GATS
Cons list doesn't apply to the henry long ranger.
Why would any man need a rifle with such high capacity?
Only the military should be using these sorts of weapons!
>cries in australian
I just think they're cool. I'm gonna buy one soon.
It's pretty fucking unamerican to not have one
literaly about to order a Henry long ranger in 308
does any company make 10 rd mags for it?
Because at the time they came out the rest of the world was still using muzzle loaders or single shot breechloaders. Really they were the pinnacle of repeating firearm technology until smokeless powder came out, and even to this day they're still perfectly viable for hunting, home defense and just fun.
Because cowboy shit is cool
Being french, it's kinda hard to get semiautomatic guns, and impossible to keep them once you've stopped going regularly to the shooting range. That's why I care for repeating rifles in the first place. And among those, the guns you can shoot the fastest while still having a decent capacity are levergats. So my go-to gun is now a Marlin 1894 chambered in .44RM.
Also generally speaking, levergats are useful for all types of shooting that doesn't require to take really long shots or to take shots at birds. From .22lr up to .45/70, you can hunt any north american or european game. I guess it helps explaining why they're still arond now.
Ironically saw a lever nugget yesterday
because in 20 years theyll be the only gun you can own

this post should scare Jow Forums way more than it thinks

>>no spitzer bullets
Couldn't that be done with a system similar to the Lebel magazine?
They're better than bolt guns if you are interested in speed.
The calibers they usually come in (round nose lower velocity heavier bullets due to the tube magazine on 99.999% of them) fill an excellent niche of sub-300-yard brush guns.
They're generally pretty nice in terms of their physical size and profile and weight.
Very reliable, usually.
You can load them in some real fucking bangers of calibers like 500 Alaskan or modern full-retard 45-70 which makes for an excellent grizzly defense firearm.
It's why I have my 1895SBL. Toss her in the plane and if I go down I'm fuckin set.
The Lebel cartridge itself is the real deciding factor there. There is an indented ring on the rear of the cartridge surrounding the primer into which the nose of the bullet behind it sits iirc.
Or you could just do a normal magazine like the gun in OP's pic. A small number of lever guns do that route.
who is this firm armed filly
Somewhat related question - is .357 mag out of a 16" lever gun viable for deer and hog hunting?
Why do people care about classic muscle cars so much?
good question, have a bump
If 5/6 gun owners cuck out and hand them over that's still an assload of dead cops. If 1/6th of gun owners had the balls to pull the trigger we'd be talking about millions of insurgents within the US
It's something that belongs in a collection. And cowboy-larping ofcourse.

nice fusil, fren
In your case, you could use it to make the world a better place and end yourself
UGH
Lever guns are pure heterosexuality
I don't know much about levergats but want to get one. Was looking at the Henry Big Boy Classic in .357Mag. Good idea or bad idea?
aesthetics and the hope that I'll get to operate on some home invaders with one
I've heard about a few people that used .357 Mag for hunting. But my guess is that shot placement will matter a lot, more than with traditional rifle rounds.
It really comes down to the loading gate. If you don't care about not having one, go for it. If you feel that it is quite important to be able to "top off" the rifle (for hunting) or be able to load it quickly if stored unloaded for HD, then get a 1894 - post 2015 marlins are good to go.
That's a very nice looking 94 user. I hope that you'll be robbed soon so that you can test it out.
Thanks m8
>No Spitzer bullets
Hornsey FTX would like a word. Certainly seemed to work well on the two deer I shot last year.
It's not a lever nugget unless it's in 7.62x54r. That one is .30-06.
>They're better than bolt guns if you are interested in speed.
only in pistol cartridges, otherwise a lever-action firing an equivalent rifle cartridge to a bolt-action is not significantly faster enough to make a difference
cowboys and indians
With good shot placement, yes, but I do think .30-30 or 7.62x39 would be better choices for short-range hunting.
They're fine, as long as you can tolerate the lack of a loading gate. I'd look for a Rossi 92 though.
Good idea. The lack of a loading gate slims down the receiver. This makes it much handier. 357 Mag is dece, especially out of a rifle, but if you're going to be hunting anything but varmints I'd step it up to 44 Mag or 45LC.
(also a lever gat isn't exactly a combat rifle. you're probably not going to be in a firefight with one, especially if you already have an AR as you should. the loading tube is not really a disadvantage when it comes to hunting or plinking.)
>During a short leave stateside in 1968, fellow Green Beret Larry White hung out with Shriver, whose only real interest was finding a lever action .444 Marlin rifle. Purchasing one of the powerful Marlins, Shriver shipped it back to SOG so he could carry it into Cambodia, "to bust bunkers," probably the only levergun used in the war.
>Shriver once went up to SOG's Command and Control North for a mission into the DMZ where Captain Jim Storter encountered him just before insert. "He had pistols stuck everywhere on him, I mean, he had five or six .38 caliber revolvers."
they're fun to shoot and they're fun to larp as a cowboy with
delet this
checked
Hmm from what I read it seemed like .357 mag from a 16" barrel has similar energy to .223 from a 16" barrel. But if it is so weak that hunting medium game depends heavily on shot placement, I would rather not.
In that case, not sure what is the point of a .357 lever except for fun plinking... Seems to lack practical utility
.357 leverguns seem to be mostly catered towards the cowboy action crowd I think, as .357 and .38 are the most economical cartridges to shoot in a levergun without going .22
Because they're cool
R u that fag that got that engraved leverghat for like $200?
They're aesthetically pleasing, fun to shoot, and everyone dreamed of being a cowboy as a kid.
excellent points
>no spitzer bullets
>rimmed cartridges only
Savage 99 would like to have a word with you
I see no lever nugger in that pic
Agreed
Yeehaw, bitch
While a 357 levergat might not be really powerful enough for hunting, it is quite good for home defense if you can't possess a semi automatic firearm. It is a quite good alternative to a shotgun, by being still relatively powerful but not having a ton of recoil & being able to shoot faster.
If you really want to hunt with a pistol caliber carabine, you should maybe consider getting a .44RM. Off the shelf ammo isn't cheap but once you'll go into reloading and casting bullet ammo cost will go down.
>no spitzer bullets

>don’t have to break cheek weld like on a bolt gun
Why do so many of you faggots not know how to shoot a bolt action?
