Ya know ARs can be modified to take a variety of rounds.

Because they're about as obnoxious as vegans and self absorbed as e-celebs. They have to constantly remind everyone that they exist. They are never content to just live and let live; they have to CONSTANTLY preach the gospel. Everyone NEEDS an AR because it's their favorite gun. There's no disputing the fact that the AR is an exceptionally modular and adaptable weapon platform, it excels at absolutely every application it's thrown into. That doesn't mean it's the only weapon choice out there. People choose different guns for different reasons, it's a largely personal and often subjective thing. We are blessed to live in an era where there are tons of options and choices in everything, there's a weapon for every person and every taste. The world doesn't begin or end with the AR, and your life won't be ruined if somebody chooses a rifle other than an AR for their particular purpose or desire.

Extra large kek. I got curious years ago and bought a mini 14, oiled it and took it to the range, couldn't get through the first mag without a double feed and a nose dive. Went through 3 mags and figured out the chamber was small too and was basically reaming the brass as it entered and made the gun malfunction because of the brass chips in the action. It's hot shit user go sell it and buy something better.

Not him, but I've put a couple hundred through mine and haven't had a single malfunction with Ruger and Tapco brand mags.

Well, genius, 99% of the time a problem with a gun can be traced to the magazine. Given that Ruger brand magazines are regarded as the gold standard for the platform and are considered to be incredibly reliable, you either used third party piece of shit mags that gave you trouble, or you won the crapshoot lottery and got a lemon. Sucks to be you, sucks to suck, but mysteriously, you seem to be the only person who has the magical malfunctioning Mini-14. The biggest complaint with the gun was its notorious accuracy loss due to having a pencil barrel, a problem that was remedied years ago. Your one anecdote doesn't invalidate data and experience from the rest of the community on a gun that's been available for decades.

It wasn't designed to wound, but it's also not objectively a super effective killing round. It's a balancing act, and lethality took a back seat to the logistics involved, otherwise troops would all be lugging 7.62s and up. You can move twice as many 5.56 for the same amount of effort as you can heavier rounds. And you get just as good of effect on target from the standpoint of upper level brass, which is to say you threw a fuckton of lead, hit very little, then dropped a jdam on it. That is the reality of the modern US war machine, and there's nothing wrong with it. I'm merely pointing out that 5.56 filled a very necessary part of that puzzle, while still meeting standards for terminal effect.
For an individual though? You're not trying to coordinate transpo for 3 million rounds of ammunition half way around the globe to bumfuckistan and land that plane on a runway 40 feet short of what it should be. I'm the asshole who flipped out about 5.56 and I still have 3 of the things. One's in .300 blk, but still. They're cheap and ammo is cheap and plentiful.

I don't have an AR yet, but I do plan to get one (I live in a non-pinko state). My statement that they're ugly as sin still holds water regardless of whether or not I have one. I'm sure they shoot well, I've handled some before and they are comfortable, and lightweight. But man, I just do not find them appealing. It's next on my list after 10/22 though.

I have every option to buy an AR but don't. I prefer the bullpup.

Glock and ARfags both have this tendency to glibly repeat stories where they had some other model of gun that had inexplicable flaws that caused them to switch, always with the same sort of narrative cadence, like the "I used to be a Trump supporter BUT" posts that were so common during the last election in some ways. I think it's because they chose guns that can be a bit boring, and in failing to find joy in them they instead find joy in belonging to the a group that has chosen "the best gun", even when there are plenty of better (but more expensive options) than what they have, and derive identity from that decision. With glockfags in particular this is why they're always bitching about 1911s or revolvers and not comparing to HK, Walther, S&W, or Sig pistols.

Same guy still - I went with a Glock because that's what I felt fit my requirements the best. I'm never going to say it's the best handgun period because everyone else has different needs and paradigms and personal tastes. That's just what I liked and I found it worked for me. Same reason I'm never going to apologize for taking a mini 14 over an AR. I don't have to explain shit or placate retards and their fudd lore or bullshit stories. I like it and it works for me. Someone doesn't understand terminal ballistics. Walls are not people. Projectile momentum, shape, stability, and velocity all affect barrier penetration differently from tissue damage. This is why a 9mm round will penetrate far more drywall than a 5.56mm round, but the latter will do a lot more damage in tissue.

AR15s are good rifles, but the end all, be all as some here claim? Definitely not. There are a ton of other good 5.56 rifles out there, that have certainly improved the design. The G36 for example has some really nice features that I miss on AR15s, such as the bolt release opposite of the trigger, charging handle on the front etc.
