>An excellent absorption explosive can be made from a solution of PETN, acetone and mineral oil. When any non-gloss paper i.e. newspaper, paperback books,corrugated cardboard, etc... is dipped in a explosive solution and when removed and allowed to dry, the paper will retain its original texture and appearance along with a microcrystaline high explosive incorporated into the fiber content of the paper. This produces a disguised explosive that can be carried into a target area without arousing suspicion.which is the major advantage of the explosive.
Materials:
PETN
Acetone
Mineral oil
Procedure:
1.)Fill a canning jar 2/3 full of acetone and heat until mildly warm by placing the canning jar in a pan or bucket on heat source when it contains the canning jar.
2.)Add PETN to the acetone, a tablespoon a time, while stirring with a stirring rod. Stir the solution until the PETN dissolves. Add more PETN until it no longer dissolves into solution, even after five minutes of stirring. Approx 1/3 lb of PETN will dissolve in every lb of warm acetone used.
3.)Approx 2% mineral should be added to the final solution. This mineral oil will prevent the crystals of PETN from recrystalizing to a noticeable size when the acetone evaporates. The mineral oil will also provide a better texture to the paper when it is dry after the soaking process.
4.)Pour this solution into a large, flat pan and then fill the pan with even sheets of a non gloss paper.The non gloss sheets are used so because glossed sheets are highly glazed and are not that absorbernt.If rolled newspaper is used, unroll it and lay it out evenly in the an. Allow the paper to soak for 30 minutes.
5.)After soaking for 30 minutes, remove the paper and allow to dry for at least 24 hours. DO NOT DRY IN AN OVEN. After the papr has had time to dry, 50 % of its weight will consist of a microcrystaline high explosive intimately incorporated into the fiber content of the paper.

It's literally the same nitration as ETN with erythritol substituted for penta-erythritol.
Personally I prefer ETN as it can be sensitised with aluminium for use as a primary.

probably. Soaking just about any thread in KNO3 a sugar then baking at 200°F until golden makes a pretty decent det fuze. Slow burning and constant.

Wrong, You can use ETN with a hot ignition like Ba(NO3)2/Al, it just works better with ETN/Al. It needs some work to make the cap Ini-free

I just tried this, except I substituted PETN for nitrates and isopropyl for acetone and motor oil for mineral oil and it doesn't explode worth shit. Fucking stupid recipe.

How so? I have personally got reliable DDT with ETN wrapped in Al and flash heated with KNO3 / Al / Fe2O3 thermate. It was my detonator of choice back when I was playing.

How so? I made a few batches totalling ~5g and did friction sensitivity testing by placing it between two smooth concrete slabs and applying weight to the top then dragging at a fixed speed. I found vast inconsistency within single batches let alone between batches and would never be seen trusting that shit as I pushed it into a secondary or tertiary.

First, HMTD is perfect for playinf and storage I have personally got reliable DDT with ETN wrapped in Al and flash heated with KNO3 / Al / Fe2O3
I made the same with ETN Ba(NO3)2 and Mg. The cap was just 0,5" longer than with a leadazid ini. The problem is that the ETN burns shortly and than detonates under its own pressure. The Thermate heat is fine but a shockwaves makes it stronger at the first 1-3mm of booster.
Im kind of pissed that finding NaN3 is so hard this days

Careful user, it can recrystallise where the jar meets the lid meaning you shear a crystal as you turn the lid. Keep a solvent in there so you can turn the jar and dissolve any crystals before opening.

I never had that issue, did you have complete physical separation of the thermate / ETN with Al between them? Mine would go from thermate flame to detonation in under ~0.5 seconds without the woosh of ETN deflagration.
My train was hot wire - thermate - Al - barely tamped ETN - cast ETN and it was extremely consistent.

Everyone has their own level of risk aversion and risk management skills so while I certainly wouldn't recommend it for everyone I wouldn't discourage those that have solid risk management.

Only thin al-foil between, also with fast burning KClO4/Al000. Its just a rule, the HEAT cant cause the detonation, its the gasoline reaction products from the ETN itself that brings the boom. Its the same for your setup, the only effect we have is ahow much ETN burns away wefor it. I used AL-caps laying on wood to see that effect. Even when the HEAT ignition is perfect, its always more than shit compared to the demage caused by a normal ignition.

I live somewhere with very tight chemical controls so have limited access to reagents, if I can't get there with common industrial chemicals and a health shop it gets hard.

Interesting about the heat caps, I'll admit I didn't do any testing to see the force down the length and only cared about the length that went into the booster.
