Any reason not to buy a PPK/S?

Any reason not to buy a PPK/S?

Been waiting to buy a concealed carry for too long and this is my first thought.

its heavy for the size, 22.1 oz empty. just for comparison, a glock 19 weighs 20.99 oz empty

I've heard they are pretty heavy and it will be noticeable when you carry all the time.

My issue with glocks are that they are boxy and could get caught on my clothing. It's probably not that big of a deal, but I've heard that from so many people.

Because a Ruger LCP II weighs about half of what the PPK/S does and is much, much less expensive.

right, i dont mean to make it sound like a glock 19 is the better choice, i just rhough it in there for weight comparison.
the weight of the ppks is definitely its big draw back, but youre right about small size working in its favor. the glock and ppks might weight close to the same but they feel very different on your hip.
i dont want a ruger. i kept looking at a lot of alternatives for a pocket 380 and just kept coming back to the lcp2. its just everything i want for a very low price, even though it says ruger on the side.

Yeah but dude my mom carries an LCP

I really want one, cool factor is off the charts and it’s /fa/ as fuck. Plus I love the feel of all metal guns desu

If your carry options are a 1911, Hi Power, or this, carry the PPK. Or you can take advantage of technological advances and carry something designed in the late 20th/early 21st century.

It isn't a Makarov.

>noticeable when you carry all the time.
Nah, I never noticed it and I carried a bunch of times wearing basketball shorts. They are shitty guns though. If they worked well they would be awesome but they jam like they were built for it.
>get caught on my clothing.
A striker fired glock with no hammer or beavertail is way less likely to get snagged than a PPK. PPK's could be really great but they're not, they just look cool so people buy them. I know I did, I wrote "Bond gun" in the "for" section on the check.

This.

>I know I did, I wrote "Bond gun" in the "for" section on the check.

Fuck me man, you set my world in doubt

Because it's chambered in Virgin .380, instead of Chad .32 like it should be l.

I had it for a long time, that holster wear is all me. I really wanted to like it but I just couldn't. I usually type up much longer responses about why they are bad but I'm getting tired of it.

I bought this meme about a couple of months ago. If you bought it to larp, it's a perfectly fine larping gun. If you bought it to shoot or carry though... Heheh. Like other anons so far mentioned, it's pretty heavy, but not heavy enough for its caliber.
You see, they were originally chambered in .32 and the barrel is the only real change to .380, so the recoil is not by any means fun.
The ergonomics are out of whack as well. If you grip it like you would a typical semi-auto, it'll flay the skin from your flesh. Very un-fun. You basically have to choke down your grip (awkward) or buy a rubber glue-on beavertail so you can hold it normally like I did. Thing is, said beavertail is sold by literally only one faggot in the entire world on eBay and he makes them and puts them up only when he feels like it.
And that's before you get to the sights. Oh man, they're so bad.
All in all, if you want a cute meme gun go for it. If you want a good small ccw, get a glock 43 and practice with it.

Get a Bersa, it's objectively better

This. Have one, love it.

because it is simple and it works
it's not a fashion statement

Get a S&W airweight. Nothing further is required for CC

>it's not a fashion statement

Bersa Thunder? Heard good things but only in passing. What makes them better?

What's the trigger pull like?

>.380

>that FDE doesnt look too bad though

>Any reason not to buy a PPK/S?

Test the DA trigger pull on one.

They've improved the design a bit to make it more reliable, couldn't tell you how, Google it if you care that much. It also has an additional locking safety if you're married to a woman who is afraid of guns or something.

take the shieldpill
>lighter than ppk
>thinner than ppk
>same length
>slightly taller
>same capacity as .32 ppk, better capacity than .380 ppk
>but it shoots fucking 9x19, including +p
>browning short recoil instead of straight blowback, so the kick is managable
>striker fired, no protruding beavertail, less snagging
>ugly as fuck

Get a Ket Tec then

don't forget it's cheap to replace if it's put in lockup never to be seen again

When will this meme die. Nobody is going to lock your gun up never to be seen again unless it's a bad shoot and then you've got way more fucking problems than the price of a handgun.

The controls and capacity arent that great, and the weights a little hefty, but its concealment and aesthetics are top fokin notch
I'd use it as a backup or light clothing/deep concealment CCW but not much beyond that

Not him but that actually used to be a super frequent/common problem all across the states, so much so that ATF had to step up their game nominally with police mishandling claims. Now it's far less likely and ATF takes the claims quite seriously, but it still stemmed from somewhere. I still dont know if I'd exactly trust some small town, blue county police department.

A Police Dept I used to be the armorer for had two dozen of them in blue and stainless.

There were a hell of a lot less choices in the early 1980's. You were pretty much going to carry a Beretta 84, a Colt 1908, or a Walther PPK if you wanted a .380.

Kinda heavy.
Needed a throat and ramp polish to work reliably.
Lots of sharp edges.
Reliability not up there with the 3rd gen S&W autos they carried normally, but better than a Sig 230.
Drop safe if carried on safe.
Tendency to give slide bite unless it's one of the S&Wesson versions.
Like most .380's and .32 autos they work better with hotter ammo.
Smallish sights.

A friend of mine carried his at his wedding. Where are now, Alan?

I've carried a full size glock for going on 13 years and not once ever has it gotten snagged on anything.
Not saying you should buy a glock but your fear is pretty unfounded.

Its worth waiting. I think I heard that Walther is going to be putting them back into production?

I think its worth seeing how those turn out.

They are, and a .32acp is not off the table, but they are starting with the .380.

How the fuck is a featureless striker fired Glock going to be more prone to snagging on clothing than a hammer fired pistol with a beaver tail? Look, if you want a decent range toy or to LARP as a 60's movie spy, then go for the PPK. If you are serious about carrying a pistol for self defense, there's a LOT of better choices.

Do old-ass bersas have internal locks? They were imported as early as the late '70s, as far as I know.

Attached: bersa.jpg (3264x2448, 893K)

thats not an old bersa, i had a 383, the steel framed thunder withdifferent magazines, it did have internal locks but you HAD to get factory mags for it to feed right.

if you can cop one of these for less than 300$ in the states do it, they will be worth something one day, i regret selling mine.

I used to carry a Walther PP, not PPK, in .32ACP until I bought my G19 Gen5. Don’t regret the switch at all, my PP was prone to jamming and really only looked cool. Just my two cents.

Yeah, I just picked that one off jewgle because it was the prettiest.

>it did have internal locks but you HAD to get factory mags for it to feed right

Blamo. Then the locks probably stem from the GCA of 1968 or one of its amendments.

I carried a ppk/s for a long time. I never really noticed the weight but it can be challenging to find a holster option that works well. I carried in a shoulder holster and routinely forgot it was there

Thats just urban camouflage

>tfw I have shot/carried one of those purple ones before

This is a consideration too many overlook when getting a cc/defensive gun.
Every one of my friends who has had stuff enter police custody as either evidence or their recovered property has, by what I'm sure is a total coincidence, had some of the cooler shit go missing.
If I had a hd shooting with an ar I would basically write off anything on the rails as soon as the police took possession of it and if it was a cc piece I wouldn't depend on ever seeing it again if it was anything other than cheap or boring and even then it will be a pain in the dick to get back.
Oh but your local guys will be alright though.

amazing gun for CC

They just suck. A lot, for many reasons. About half of those reasons have been listed already.

I wouldn't say more reliable, some of them are problematic. They have a better DA trigger than a PPK and the recoil isn't as miserable but the parts are much cheaper and there are plenty of people that have a fault where the trigger spring dislodges itself and you have to disassemble the gun to get it back out. The barrel/frame fit is also atrocious and causes FTF's. The biggest fault a Bersa has over a PPK is that the frame will eventually crack.

A glock is also a plastic piece of shit
