I want to give up on this hobby since it's too expensive for me and also the gun laws just make it no fun (live in GTA where the ranges are extremely strict and anti-fun, and it takes hours to drive to crown land).

Depends on your trade and your regiment. Evenings are generally admin, courses, light training, maintenance of equipment, etc.

Honestly you could probably do it yourself, but yes any smith could do that unless the chamber has been damaged.

I've been soaking it in WD40 as per a recommendation from a guy at the range. It's rammed in there pretty badly. The extractor took a chunk out of the rim so that's a no go.

yeah, I'd brass rod and mallet it. If you can't get a good purchase on the insert with a rod there's a soft alloy you can buy that people often use for clearing chamber obstructions or simply casting the chamber for diagnosis. I forget what it's called, but essentially it melts at pretty low temps, you'd just block the barrel with a paper towel or whatever as close to the chamber as possible, pour the molten alloy in, let it set, then you should be able to get a really good strike with the mallet/rod.

Flintlocks are probably the most FUN guns to plink with if you have that specific spark of autism in you. A minute and a half of work (at first) to get one VERY smokey round downrange is just the perfect mix of of everything that is good and wholesome in the sport.
Plus, they probably make for the most normie-friendly wall hangers out there.

Shooting clays is a cheap way to have a lot of fun. Especially if you split the cost with a friend or two.

They are great, but it's also a good idea to get a license and shoot some regular guns first, just to be more familiar with firearms- especially around safety and cleaning.

A cheap used .22 rifle isn't a bad idea. Old bolt actions are reliable. Lever and pump less so, but they are a lot of fun, and good to introduce new shooters with.
