Down take a break from all the /**g/ threads to do some archaeology, Jow Forums? I was doing some curator work on a collection found in the 1970s at a dig site on the North Western side of Los Angeles. After pulling open a bag of rusted chunks I came upon what I quickly realized was the barrel of an old pistol. In the same bag I found what I believe may be parts of the firing mechanism. What are your thoughts?

You found a murder weapon from the gold rush

But the real question is, was it used to murder Indians, whites, chinks, or mexicans.

>giant blobs of rust
Obviously it was a 1852 Colt Walker. No, wait... 1853. It was definitely owned by Wild Bill Hickoks father and was used to kill exactly 6 men.

An ar/k/aeologist in the making.

Use electrolysis to get the rust off then comeback to this armpit of autism with better pictures, Indiana Jones.

nah he should use a wire brush

I found this at work. What is it, Jow Forums. World war II find

looks like a lebel

wrong

Lebel Model 1886.

With a tubular magazine below the barrel, containing spitzer projectiles, feeding into a big brick of a receiver with that mushroom bolt handle? Definitely Lebel.

Looks like it desu, then whichever retard at my work who officially labeled it as lee enfield should be fired

>then whichever retard at my work who officially labeled it as lee enfield should be fired
Lol, was his last job at Cabelas?

It's definitely an old pistol barrel. It seems like the cock was missing from all of the other parts? What else.was found with it

Its a percussion octagonal barrel pistol barrel from after 1840
trigger
floorplate for trigger
ramrod pipe, duelling pistols generally did not have ramrods so we can discount that

There is no lockplate so I can't tell you more is a sinle shit percussion pistol with an octagonal barrel and it was not converted from flintlock (no drum). US percussion single shot pattern pistols had round barrels

Something like pic related
, Spanish Military Officer's Pocket Percussion Pistol.

pic of underside of barrel please op from the side

that's a pocketknife blade

Its a ramrod pipe an obviously so

Take it to a conservator, don’t try to clean it yourself.

I don't think there would be a point. Conservators are up to the neck in gifts in need of great restoration and a case like this would most likely never be brought out of the cellar until it was time to throw out the worst junk to make room for new gifts. This relic is nowhere near worth the time it would take to make it display worthy. Especially without a connection to any historical person or event. I hope OP will give it a shot for the fun of it himself.

You can just display it as is. All you need is a nice frame maybe a fish tank or something else you think looks good. Add some lights of flavor.
It makes a nice conversation piece.
Not everything needs to be cleaned and restored sometimes its nice just to see thinks as you found them.
