A round is cooking off in the hot barrel. Seems like an extremely unlikely malfunction. The MG3 is open-bolt, so there is no reason that there should be a round in the chamber unless it both failed to fire and failed to extract. Also puzzled by what appears to be a case being ejected when buddy retracts the bolt. An odd one for sure.

It's possible that it failed to extract a live round but the empty case was stovepiped. He pulls back the charging handle, releasing the case, but with the live round still mostly chambered. It then cooks off while the bolt is at the rear.

Yes sport hunting is the number one contributor to wildlife conservation in the US but in the case of at risk animal populations the tendency for hunters to take the largest and most virile males can have serious problems for local populations and their genetics. Eco tourism has the same if not better results and usually has better infrastructure in place to actually support and maintain healthy populations. It has proven to be successful in africa already, and usually contributes far greater to local economies than dumping money to a private guide organization. Im a hunter myself, but thinking that slaying animals is the best way to protect them is shortsighted.

That way, the live round cooks off while being supported everywhere except the front and back, that should allow pressure to build at least enough for a result like in the video.

Addendum
Look how he tilts the gun muzzle down as he pulls the charging handle. The stovepipe might've prevented complete clambering, but as he clears it and tilts the gun forward, the live round proceeds to drop fully into the chamber.
