/MSG/ Military Surplus General

What's in the mail edition. Type 38 will be here on Tuesday, comes with a repro sling and what I think is a repro dust cover, which unless it fits perfectly will be removed. LGS has a bayonet for $50 I'm going to pick up.
I'm happy to be getting a matching pre war example that probably saw some shit. What's coming in for you guys soon?

I'll send you mail fren

gunbroker.com/item/798846237

How'd I do lads? I'm scared because no one bid that I missed something.

What's the price for a decent condition Norinco SKS these days?

>What's coming in for you guys soon?
I just arrived back in the States and I'm forcing myself to not buy any guns until I get a job. I;m torn between a K31 and CMP Garand for my employment present.

$400-500

Thanks m8, I'm never sure if what I'm looking at on Gunbroker is inflated or not.

I think it looks good, but I can't tell if the bolt is matching or not. I've noticed that people tend to bid a whole lot less if it's not a penny auction, it's a good way to snag a deal.

If I'm lucky, I'll win this 1896 dated Rolling Block I'm bidding on. I also shot my Persian for the first time today. It's like perfectly zeroed.

I got my Typo 30 bayonet on its way. Soon my arisaka will be complete, plus i will officially have a stabby boi for everyone rifle i own. Need to get some 7.7 jap for my rifu, im interested to see how it fires when using the monopod.

J&G has 8mm mauser for sale on stripper clips. If you need stripper clips for your mauser , I would recommend looking there, leave some for me though. Planning on ordering a m48 and a bit of ammo

A short M95 Budapest is in the mail.
A long M95 Bulgaria or Greece would be great to find, but seems to be unobtanium.

A bunch of reloading shit for my 6.5 Dutch boys. Should have showed up yesterday but what can i expect from the USPS?

Would I be a bubba if I painted my brown FR-8 with appliance epoxy and removed the bluing on the bolt?

Attached: 1544581702973.jpg (566x670, 95K)

>what’s in the mail?

No surp, just a lower parts kit from PSA and some Wolf 9mm. I need to resupply, so in the next month I’m getting some 9mm Mak, .308, and 7.62x39 ammo.

Shit I forgot to reply to the probably b8, yes it would be bubba.

Where the fuck can I find a forestock for this, and what should I expect to pay?

Attached: IMG_2961-1.jpg (1024x768, 119K)

Fucking oof. Ebay is just about your only bet for non-poo No.1 forestocks. Expect to pay at least $200, if it's got the handguards too

I'd take one with the Ishapore bolt, frankly. I watched one of those go for $207 without the forward handguard

Well I'm about to get this in the mail since I won it like 20 minutes ago.

Attached: Rolling Block.png (1200x768, 344K)

>probably b8, yes it would be bubba.
Not trying to b8. I got an FR-8 a year ago for $400. It was already a little bit bubba'd. It had its bolt turned down and scalloped, and some ugly shit brown stain and poly applied to the stock. The bore is perfect, but the outside of the rifle has a brown patina. The bolt also looks like it was cold-blued and is pretty ugly.

I know in this pic the finish looks fine but in the right light the rifle turns brown - its parkerized which holds paint really well so that's why I figured if I got a dark gray paint it would look nice and hold up better over time.

Attached: fr8.png (750x1334, 2.09M)

Gotcha. I retract what I said, do what you will. No harm.

This was bubba’d, too. So I got a drill purpose stock set and bleached it. Turned out kinda shitty but whatever. I had the same thought as you. It was already modified so I may as well do what I please.

Waiting on a K31 bayonet. Didn't want to pay an extra 300 for a sawback one.
Almost grabbed a diopter sight but fuck, 350 bucks.

I have this Remington model 81 from May of 1941, does this count?

Still stocked about my recent acquisition.
I just can't get over it yet. It's so fucking smooth, holy shit.

You mirin'?

Attached: 20190301_125515rez.png (1196x1932, 3.56M)

That is a lovely long rifle. Been thinking about picking one up myself.

>You mirin'?
I'm 'mirin. I wish I had bought a G11 when Simpson had them for cheaper last year.

Attached: CarcanoM91_03-03-2019_A.jpg (1200x800, 560K)

>long
Was kind of surprise how loooong it actually was. I was thinking forty-five to forty-eight inches or so when I bought it. Not over fifty one goddamn inch. It fits in my safe with less than a quarter of an inch to spare.
I'll remember to check that before I start buying more surp.

Nothing ATM, it's getting really hard to find things I need.

I need a Bulgarian that isn't Slavshitted personally. But they're rare.

Yes. Need.

New acquisition. 1905 Carl Gustaf. Paid $400.00. All-matching, save for the cleaning rod. My first real Mauser.

I'm fairly certain the guy I got it from got it from the importer - there's still some cosmoline in places. Condition 2 bore, and some slight dents in the handguard, and a tiny bit of rust of the triggerguard - other than that, it's perfect.
Family friend has a case of the practice ammo - we're going to go out and have a range day here when it's nice.

Swedeposting.

Nothing at all. I went to my LGS to buy a nice Winchester P14 that I had seen last Saturday. Couldn't find out on the rack but I saw it behind the counter and asked an employee and it had apparently been sold on Sunday. There's an auction up by my college that I hope I can get something good in two weeks.

Bought a russian sks for 460 yesterday. Its got a chinese sling on it that id like replaced but it works for now.
Its very svelte compared to what i was imagining. Makes me sad traditional rifles are all but dead for military roles.

Attached: IMG_8426.jpg (1500x2000, 1.41M)

YES!

Attached: SwedeM38_03-07-2019_ebelskiver_A.jpg (1200x800, 518K)

Holy shit, this gun is fun. Just popped off three rounds of that Swedish military gallery ammo with cup projectiles (not the wooden-tipped blanks). Next to no recoil, smooth action, well balanced - I absolutely love this rifle.
>mfw Swedish Mauser

Attached: 1534527967115.jpg (600x496, 16K)

That's a great price for a Russian SKS.

SWEDEN YES!

Attached: SOV - SKS.jpg (3361x1002, 1.63M)

6.5 Swede is probably the optimum caliber from that time period. It's modern equivalent, 6.5 Creed, is probably the optimum for today.

Il grab a pic later but im very happy with it. My buddy and I were window shopping and he found a yugo for 460, next store i found this guy. I figured it was a sign that we should get them.
Mine has some of the prettiest grain ive seen on an sks

460 is a touch high for a Yugo unless it's really nice or pic related. But not out of the realm of acceptability.

Attached: YUG - 1924.jpg (2560x1440, 1.01M)

It was more or less pristine. Il see if i can get some pics of it also. Grenade launcher and muzzle device were neat but not really my thing.
Mightve been a bit high but i dont think he did bad, especially since i kind of talked him into it.

OH! A Yugo SKS. My mind defaulted to pic related. 460 is fine for an SKS.

Attached: YUG - M24-47.jpg (3671x859, 1.73M)

Boxes of glorious 9x18 ammo

Thats what i was thinking. They sure arent as cheap as they used to be but its still a solid semi auto rifle.
Best part is its another one off the list. Not sure its the best way to go about getting the easy stuff first but i figure i should get an sks now before they become the same price as an svt

I doubt they'll get that high, but it's still smart.

Attached: SOV - SKS - Crest.jpg (1337x1940, 1.56M)

Im trying to buy a moose rifle. Should I get a sporterised M98 Mauser (with some after-market stock) or a Zastava?
Both in the same calibre.
M98 is 200 cheaper, looks odd, has a lovely wing safety. While the Zastava seems all original. Both barrels are all "bight and shiny" according to listing but that is questionable.
Need your inputs, please.

Attached: cat think.jpg (1024x768, 100K)

Honestly you should get a modern hunting rifle, which will be more accurate, cheaper, and ready to accept a scope

I dont think so either but i never thought mosins would get up to 300+ or nagant revolvers would be hard to find.

Hey fellas, I just got back from the good ole gun show. Bought a rifle that was labeled as a Mauser 98, 7mm. Now doing some research, it seems most of these rifles are chambered for 8mm mauser rounds. Have I bought a knock-off chinese copy? Anyone knowledgeable on a mauser 98 chambered for 7mm? Why might my rifle be chambered for 7mm, when the majority were made for 8mm?

you probably bought a Spanish one, or any number of countries that had those rifles in both of those types.
Dont take my word for it though.

The amount of money that would take to restore that gun will cost more than it's worth. Good stock sets are worth just as much as the guns themselves sometimes.

This is why people do this shit: gunbroker.com/item/801544397

You aren't saving one gun, you're just destroying another.

>What's in the mail edition.
Nothing except police surplus Manurhin MR88/F1 grips.

There's literally dozens of models of "Mauser" even if you're just talking about the 98 system. Post some markings and we'll tell you what it is.

Attached: BRA -1908 Mauser.jpg (2560x1440, 1.25M)

I've got the 450 page Mauser book by Ball and after a cursory look it looks like more models were 7mm than 8mm.

Might have to take the wood off to look for unmolested marks. Maybe a South American Mauser? they are common and many are 7mm.

mind my fucking legs, sorry

The guy who sold me this had other mausers labeled as 'spanish made', but the one he sold me was labeled as german made and he was pretty adamant it was german. He could be wrong, or lying.

I definitely need to take it apart

What Mauser is the closest to a K98 but is NOT a k98? I am trying to find a Bubba'd Mauser and build a k98 sniper clone.

maybe a Czech but it will have a straight bolt handle and the longer handguard on top

another marking on the bolt

Attached: 20190310_195308.jpg (3264x1836, 1.34M)

its a little hard to see in the pic but it looks like the c with a circle around it. almost like a copyright logo

just below the glare on the metal, and above the hole, there appears to be a small half star thing. almost a star of david but I highly doubt that is what im seeing

Welp. I was gonna bid on that but forgot about it. damn. Congrats!

After a quick look through the Mauser book it looks like it might be an 1895 model from some country.

Looks a lot like an 1895 Chilean short rifle but that recoil lug is weird. The receiver is completely blank?

Got a vz 24 barrel and stock coming in the mail for my receiver that i've had for about a year or so now.
is it worth it to just reload for 8mm Mauser or buy off the shelves?

The waffle safety flag might be a clue but I don't know which models had it like that

all markings have been posted in pics above. The top part of the receiver is totally blank but I can vaguely make out '9935', a character that looks like an H or an E on its side, and something that looks like half of a jewish star. There is a clear 'L O' on the butt just behind the bolt

there is also '129' on the top, rearmost part of the butt. There is metal on the butt but it is completely blank

Sounds like you possibly have a lowe manufactured 1916 spanish mauser re arseonaled for use by the Spanish police.
Make sure it's 7mm and not 7.62x51. Also, if this is a spanish mauser. It is not a 98, it's a mauser 93 style. So it's small ring.

Yeah it was definitely scrubbed when refinished. Ludwig Loewe used a star of david stamp so that might just be what it is.

Also, if it's a lowe. This is what the reciever what have originally looked like.
The lowe company is owned by Jews. But it seems to only be owned, so if you lean Jow Forums it's still German.

Attached: Lowe.jpg (1024x768, 175K)

from google, this looks like the closest match so far.

So, how's the bore? It looks mighty nice for a 1916. As most are trashed.

yeah its definitely 7mm. Already fired a few 7mm mauser rounds out of it. Works great

I cleaned it out as soon as I got it. Small amount of just dust. Looks ok as far as I can tell. I had roughly an 8inch spread at 50 yd with my first 5 rounds in it

That's good to hear, the Nato one's are picky and need light ammo. So store bought isn't good. Also, do keep light loads. These spanish small rings can have bolt setback issues.

>at gunshow
>see box of pouches
>digging for vz24 ammunition pouch
>ask how much he wants for one
>he ask me to hold the box up so he can see
>grab box
>instantly he says "oh you touched it, your problem now

so now what do i do with a bunch of free leather ammunition pouches?

Attached: 03 10 19 gunshow haul.jpg (1600x979, 638K)

It's a Spanish M1916 carbine that some idiot had heavily polished and reblued. I hope you didn't pay too much for it.

I'll keep that in mind, thanks

Same thing the last guy did

Stop spreading this bullshit. No Spanish Mauser was ever chambered for 7.62CETME. They were all chambered for 7.62NATO. 7.62CETME was only developed for the CETME rifle. It's also not a lower pressure cartridge, it's only a lower recoiling cartridge.
